Sometimes I like to hop onto my long abandoned blogs and see if anyone's still alive.

More often than not, everyone's quit the scene, deleted their blog or is still around but they've completely changed as a person and don't share the same interests anymore.

It makes me sad, but weirdly nostalgic for times I had. Or for my case, the lack of nostalgic times I had since this blog never really took off like I hoped for.

Will anyone even see THIS post?

So...since this blog is dead and everyone following it is also equally dead, I’m gonna use this as a platform for a tiny little vent. Cool? Cool.

Lately I’ve been going over all my old and dead RP blogs and feeling...I suppose nostalgic, but equally a sense of Ennui.

I see all these blogs I started and as much as I’m going through each of them thinking ‘Man I Crushed This Shit’, I’m reminded that time and time again, they were so short lived. Only one or two of them managed to eek out more than a year of existence. Some of them barely even lived and existed as a shallow pool for me to desperately shout out to the world ‘Open for starters!’ to absolutely no biters.

Then it dawned on me: For as good a writer I am, I was never good at RP-ing...At least on Tumblr

I could never connect with people, I’d follow too many people and get too many follow backs that overwhelmed me to perform or I’d have characters and ideas that were too weird for most people to interact with.

Yet I kept living in this delusion that I was a good RP-er, trudging on forward acting like I’m hot shit when in reality I was just shit...But on Discord, it’s a whole ‘nother story.

If I’m in the right server or group, I can go off like a rocket. I fire on all cylinders and wind up coming up with more ideas to push my original stories forward. I feel this sense of freedom to perform that I NEVER felt on Tumblr.

So have I been wasting my time trying to RP on here? Should I have just migrated to being a Discord only kind of guy once that took off?

I dunno man. I dunno.

Y’know what? Let me keep dumping some pent up petty anger I’ve had for a while.

Let’s talk Gemsona Week.

Gemsona Week was a fun little exercise in character development and writing. I participate from the second year onward, that was until last year where it was announced that it would be the final one (for the time being until someone else wants to take the responsibility).

And with that being said, to whoever/if someone should run the next Gemsona Week, I ask you: DON’T FORGET ABOUT THE WRITERS.

Gemsona Week was an artistic thing, and guess what? LITERATURE/WRITING IS AN ART. YET every single year, I had to send a message asking ‘Hey! Don’t forget about us writers too~!’.

And they listened. Towards the end of the week, leaving participants like me to haul ass to do these lazily thrown together prompts while trying to do the other prompts that were more tailored to artists.

So again, if someone does Gemsona Week 2k18, take a moment to think about the art disabled. The people who spend countless hours writing/typing away only to get a little love.

(As long as I’m here, might as well dump my feelings about some Gemsona community stuff from years ago, get some beef off my chest with someone I used to be friends with.)

(No matter what, you’re never gonna please everyone you meet. Some people are so fastidious about how OCs are made. That was a big reason as to why my Gemsonas went through SO MANY revisions, because I wanted someone to notice me.)

(That someone was actually a friend of mine. They were soooooooooooooo anal about getting fan characters right that they were super close minded about it. No matter what, they would never break kayfabe and wouldn’t listen to reason about why my characters (not just Gems) look this way. I have perfectly reasonable explanations, but they wouldn’t say anything. They’d just go silent.)

(And you know what was the worst thing? They would criticize me behind anon. But I knew it was them. I knew because they were a foreigner who’s English wasn’t strong. Ohhhhhhh if only Know Anon was still working around that time, then I would have busted them HARD. But no, I never brought it up to them and only tried to get them to notice me.)

(Basically what I’m telling you all is that if someone isn’t giving you an inch, they’re not worth your time. Just keep doing you. You don’t have to make anything to please anyone but yourself.)

I’ve noticed that I’ve gotten a lot of followers, which is cool! However, this blog has been Retired!! You’d know that had you guys read the last prompt I replied to, but Gemsona Week didn’t reblog it yet, so whatever.

So yeah, while it’s not ready, go follow the new blog I’m linking to! It’s far from ready, but It shouldn’t take any longer to get it all setup!

GEMSONA WEEK 2K16 - SUNDAY/✧ Prompts for Writers ✧ [Part 2]

Here we are: The last day of Gemsona Week 2016.

Well it’s not time to dawdle now. Time to get to the last of the prompts so I can close out this blog, and look towards the future for Obsidian and Cobalt Sapphire.

No lie, I would have actually put Obsidian and Cobalt Sapphire in the Hall if I had their 3rd redesigns finished by now. But I don’t so it’s not a huge loss on me.

But I will say that as always, the Gemsona designs I saw this year where FANTASTIC~! Good work guys, really! Ya’ll killed it!

Unfortunately because I decided to join the forum when I didn’t even have finished redesigns for Obsidian and Cobalt Sapphire, I had to miss out on the fun Prom-type shenanigans, which totally blows but I’ve got no one but myself to blame for it :/

But screw it, I’l still say that the most embarrassing moment was for Obsidian, who got booted from the prom after he tried to start a Mosh Pit at the dance by right hooking Cobalt Sapphire, only to end up right hooking one of the teachers in the jaw.

Fun Fact about Obsidian’s Senior quote: It’s actually Japanese! When asked what it meant, he said ‘It means we are all great blossoms that have finally bloomed into full flowers~”.

But in actuality it was a line from Fist of the North Star, which when translated means ‘YOU’RE ALREADY DEAD’!

Now then, time to answer the writing prompts!

An Unexpected Encounter:

Your gemsona is somehow magically transported to Earth and end up bumping into the Crystal Gems, who are currently fighting a corrupted Gem Monster. What happens? Would your gemsona help fight along-side them? Take advantage of the Crystal Gem’s being distracted and attack them?

In their story, both Obsidian and Cobalt Sapphire get sent to Earth, mainly for work in the Kindergartens. But if they were to appear right where the Crystal Gems were, Obsidian would side with the Gems to fight Obsidian, who was in charge of watching over Obsidian work in the Kindergarten.

Cobalt Sapphire would no doubt lose, and Obsidian would take his Gem, hoping to show Cobalt the horrors that the Homeworld have created on Earth.

Guess Who?:

Come up with a fake Steven Universe episode introducing your gemsona! Write a few lines of dialogue from it, write a summary of what would happen, or write an entire script!

Aw that’s easy!

The episode would be titled any of the following (because they’re just good names): Charge!! Obsidian and Cobalt, Fists of the Northern Gems, Of Obsidian and Sapphire, Gemstone Fantasy, the list goes on.

The episode itself would entail the Crystal Gems encountering the Two at a Gem Temple, as they fight for an artifact that could stop a Gem Monster. Once they realize they’re all on the same side, Obsidian and Cobalt help the Crystal Gems with the monster, and go on their way, saying that they’ll return someday.

Ancient Artifact:

Your gemsona finds a magical old gem-powered artifact hidden away. What is it, and what does your gemsona do with it?

Obsidian and Cobalt Sapphire would come across a Giant, Taiko-like War Drum, standing at roughly at 15 ft. When the drum is played, the spirits of all Gems is lifted, thus giving extra strength to those who hear it’s booming sounds.

When they come across it, they can’t really use it to it’s full potential, as it would need more than one Gem to use it. But if they were a full team, they’d use it as a last resort in the heat of a battle!

Parent Swap!:

Your gemsona is now one of the gems tasked with the important job of teaching Steven how to use his powers and be a proper Crystal Gem. What do they teach him, and what kind of guardian would they be? Are they strict? Kind? More of a sibling than a parent-figure?

Again, another easy one.

Cobalt Sapphire would be like Pearl, but with a more hands on approach to training (I.E., taking out Steven to the field), where was Obsidian is like Amethyst but with more reckless abandon.

AND THAT’S A WRAP ON GEMSONA WEEK 2016. ALL SEVEN DAYS (nearly completed) IN THE BAG. And now for my thoughts about this year’s week in general, as well as a thought or two on how to make it better for next year!

Now in general, I thought the Week was pretty good! Nice and fun prompts....And that’s pretty much all I did! But that doesn’t mean it was perfect.

I’m a writer you see, and I noticed that this year’s prompts where mostly Art focused. Sure, I still did SOME of the prompts as writing replies anyways, but that’s still kinda skeevy. The last two years had an equal balance of art and writing oriented prompts, so what happened to this years?

Do us Writers not count? Is writing not a form of art? Do we not put the same level of work into our craft like an artist would? Where’s the balance, yo?

Now credit is due where credit is due: Enough people complained/brought it up to the mods, and they did make some writing oriented prompts for us Writers. But again, that was only after people complained/brought it up. And even then, they were just rehashes of other prompts from the week.

But something is better than nothing, and let me make this clear: I’m not angry at the mods, not even in the slightest. When planning an event like Gemsona Week, people forget about the small details like that. We’re only human after all!

And while I’m griping, let’s talk about the timing of the week, because It felt like it came out of no-where and caught some of us off guard.

Prior to this past monday, I didn’t see any advertisement for GW. Absolutely none until the first day. I don’t care if that’s part of the challenge of the week or something, that’s poor planning, and it’s inexcusable.

So really, that’s it. This was another fun Week, with some minor nitpicks. I think if the mods just remember to advertise the Week better, as well as supply more writing based prompts from the get-go, next year’s GW will be great!!

And now that that’s done, it’s time to move onto better pastures...Starting now and forever, this blog is OFFICIALLY [RETIRED].

You see friends, this blog is a painful reminder of failed storylines, failed characters, and failed...EVERYTHING. IT JUST SUCKED.

Now while this blog is done, Obsidian and Cobalt Sapphire (or if you really remember this blog’s early days, Kokuyōseki and Kobaruto) aren’t! Their spirits will live on in those who remember them...As well as the new blog, GemStone Brothers - Obsidian and Cobalt Sapphire, and the Order of Amulets forum!

Now the blog isn’t ready yet, nor am I ready for the Fourms just yet, but I’d highly recommend following the new blog or joining the forum if you want to RP with Obsidian and Cobalt Sapphire!

Someone Entirely New : When your gemsona fuses with other gems, they become “someone entirely new”- an experience that they’ll never forget. What is your gem’s most memorable and/or cherished fusion? How did their personality mix and mesh with their partner’s?

Obsidian and Cobalt Sapphire’s first fusion was their most memorable.

Up until that point, the two were never that strong as Star Sapphire was. The only downside was that Obsidian’s ‘Fight-or-Flight’ mentality seemed to be controlling them, as Star Sapphire nearly destroyed an entire temple.

Eventually, control of Star Sapphire equaled to both Obsidian and Cobalt Sapphire.

Let’s Do This! : What is your gemsona’s style of dancing that gets them “in the groove” for fusing? (Animated gifs are encouraged!)

When they fused Star Sapphire, they don’t really dance it out. They more or less clash into one and other and that’s it. But when they do take the time to dance, their movements are somewhat similar to Kabuki dancers:

GEMSONA WEEK 2K16 - THURSDAY (✧ Prompts for Writers ✧) [Part 1]

WELL ALRIGHT! NOW THIS IS WHAT I’M TALKIN’ ABOUT! PURE WRITING PROMPTS. I guess I wasn’t the only one who felt shafted about there mostly being art prompts!

It’s like I always say, if you make enough noise, things can change!

Now then, I’ll only be answering the rehashed Prompts today, as the Thursday prompts for this week are too art based. SO LET’S BEGIN~!

Write about your gemsona’s first experience being in the court of their Diamond. Have they ever interacted with someone in the Diamond Authority, or one of the Diamonds themselves?

Their first experience in their respective Courts (Obsidian = Yellow, Cobalt Sapphire = Blue) where mixed. Obsidian was promptly yelled at by Yellow Diamond on day one, whereas Cobalt had a more pleasant experience as he met Blue Diamond.

Prom Night! Write about your gemsona’s experience at prom, how they asked out their friend or partner, or envision what sort of activities they’d do at prom! After all, there’s more to prom than just dancing!

Prom night was just like they predicted

Obsidian wandered around the School (or wherever Prom was taking place) looking for fights. Unfortunately, he couldn’t find any, so he just ended up sticking with Cobalt.

-Outside in the hall-

“(Grumble, grumble, grumble)...”

“What’s the matter, Obsidian? Couldn’t find someone else to fight~?”

“Grrrr...No...Not even the Goth Gems smoking out back didn’t wanna throw hands...So I’m stickin’ with you for the rest of the night since I got nothin’ else to do...”

“Aww, sorry to hear about that. But don’t worry, I’m sure we’ll have some fun together!”

As for Cobalt Sapphire, he actually mingled with the other students and shared a few dances, as he is the most charismatic of the two. Needless to say, Obsidian got jealous.

“Hmm? What’s the matter, Obsidian? Is something wrong?"

"YEAH. HOW COME YOU'RE GETTING DANCES, AND I'M GETTING NOTHINGNOTHING?!!"

"Well you're not exactly the easiest Gem to approach."

"H-Hey!!"

"Hmm hmm~ Would you feel better if I shared a Dance with you~?"

"I-I-I...Uh....S-Sure, I guess..."

And the two shared a, as Obsidian put it, 'Manly dance' , or a 'Mance' if you will~

That is until the DJ played Pegasus Fantasy (one of Obsidian's requests),  which prompted Obsidian to try to start a mosh pit in the middle of the dance hall.

It didn’t turn out well. Obsidian got kicked out after he right hooked a teacher in the Jaw.

Write about your gemsona’s first experience fusing with someone. What prompted them to fuse? How did they feel about being fused, and what happened after they unfused

Obsidian and Cobalt Sapphire’s first fusion was by pure accident. It happened in the heat of a battle against a giant 20ft Gem monster, as Obsidian and Cobalt Sapphire ran into each other, instantly forming Star Sapphire.

After they defused, they felt as if the world wouldn’t stop spinning around them, as if they were humans that got off an intense Roller Coaster.

“Ohhhhhhhh...My head’s killin' me...Wha...What happened?”

“Ehhhhhh...I do not know, Obsidian...But what I do know is that I wished everything would stop spinning...Or at least everything feels that way...I think I should sit down for a moment...”

Otherwise, they felt an indescribable rush of adrenaline, power, and uncontrollable rage. They would fuse into Star Sapphire again many times later, but for short bursts until they got the hang of fusing.

GEMSONA WEEK 2K16 - WEDNESDAY

Now with that addendum out of the way, time to reply to today’s prompt!

✩ DAY THREE Wednesday, March 23rd ✦ DAY OF DIAMONDS ✦

Court of Diamonds: Redesign your gemsona as a member of the Great Diamond Authority’s courts. Do they belong to Blue Diamond, or Yellow, or…? Feel free to describe any character changes in your post- are they loyal, or rebellious? What do they think of the Diamond Authority? In what way do they serve their Diamond?

Y’know, this prompt is pretty ironic right now. It’s asking me to redesign Obsidian and Cobalt Sapphire for the Great Diamond courts, and I’m in the middle of redesigning the two~ And since I take forever to finish any character design, I’m gonna have to skip out on this half of the prompt (again, there really oughta be more Writing oriented prompts).

But I will say that Obsidian would fall under Yellow Diamond, simply because gold and yellows are apart of his color scheme, and Cobalt Sapphire would be under Blue Diamond for the same reasons.

Now for the character changes (assuming that the prompt is asking about the base character and not the character if they were under Diamond Authority): They’ve gone through a lot (mainly in the backstory department).

It’s taken me almost THREE years to get their backstories to feel right with the S*U canon. Their original stories had them born from a Kindergarten in Japan, and they were both raised by Samurais. It was just BAD.

But their finalized backstories now have them as Homeworld Gems gone Crystal.

First is Obsidian. He was a leader of Obsidian gems who where (in my take on canon/lore/whateves) a group of special dispatch soldiers on the Gem Homeworld. They were like Rubies, but less disposable.

On one mission, they were summoned to take care a group of rebels who sided with Rose Quartz. While the rest of his team took out the Rebels without flinching, he heard their pleads about how the Homeworld empire was viciously destorying planet after planet with reckless abandon. He didn’t know what it was, but something ringed inside him, putting him a somewhat existential crisis.

Where those Gems right? Where the Diamonds really destroying these worlds without a second thought?

Not long after that, he and his team were summoned to take care of more Rebels again. And just as they were about to strike first, Obsidian jumped in-front of the rebels and fought off his own team!

Clashing weapons (in this case a long staff with multiple segments) with one of his own, struggling to knock his former comrade back, he was asked:

“C-Captain!!! What are you doing?!!? Have you gone insane!?!!?” he was questioned. “We have to dispose of them, NOW!!!”

“Maybe...M-Maybe....MAYBE IT’S YOU WHO NEEDS TO BE DISPOSED OF!!!” Obsidian screamed back, as he lifted his staff into the air and struck down his own kind, sending them back into their Gem.

The air went quiet as everyone went quiet. He was surrounded by his former team, all with their weapons at the ready. They slowly began to close in on him, but with one swing of his staff, he wiped the entire squad out.

With tears streaming down his face, Obsidian pledged his allegiance to the Rebels, known as the Crystal Gems. From then on he helped out with many rebel assaults on the Homeworld. That is until he was captured by Cobalt Sapphire.

Like Obsidian, Cobalt Sapphire belonged to a team of warrior Sapphires, who in this case, acted like Hunters that were sent out to capture notable rebels (before the Rebel uprising, they were, more or less, cops).

 And this Sapphire in particular was tasked with bringing back the Obsidian that went berserk and joined the ‘Crystal Gems’. For a while they kept bumping into each other, more or less playing a deadly game of Cat and Mouse. That was until, as mentioned before, Cobalt captured Obsidian.

Upon his capture, Cobalt Sapphire was then tasked with escourting/monitoring Obsidian, as they were both sent down to a new planet Homeworld was harvesting. A planet called ‘Earth’. Once there, Cobalt Sapphire put Obsidian to work, forced to help create ‘Kindergartens’ which would generate more Gems for the Homeworld.

For nearly five years, Cobalt Sapphire acted like a slave driver to Obsidian, working him to the metaphorical bone. Whether it was having Obsidian build an Injector with one hand tied behind his back, or making him spend a day lifting 1 ton rocks all over the Kindergarten, trying to, in his own words, “Find a perfect spot~”, Sapphire made work a living hell for Obsidian.

But all that pent up anger and rage only fueled Obsidian, as he started to form a plan to escape from Sapphire, and find other ‘Crystal Gems’.

During a freak Thunderstorm that formed over the Kindergarten, Obsidian knocked down an Injector that had been struck by lightning. As the machine fell and began to crumble down, Obsidian threw a black rock he found and shaped to match his Gem through the dirt and mist into the rubble. He was hoping that it’d make Cobalt Sapphire think that he had been injured and retreated into his Gem.

And to his surprise, it worked!

From a distance, Obsidian saw Cobalt pick up the fake out Obsidian gem, and sat down with it, as if he was expecting something to come out of it. With his plan a success, Obsidian ran far away from the Kindergarten, and came across a peaceful, quiet brook. Jumping into the water, he cleaned off the 5 years of dirt and grime he was covered in, and then sat under a tree, thinking about where he’d go next.

“I’m free from that Sapphire...But where do I go?” he asked. “I’m on a planet I know nothing about, far away from any kind of Gem. I don’t even know if there’s any Rebels, er, what where they called again? It was something Gems...Oh! Crystal Gems is what those Gems called themselves! Hmm...Well I guess it really doesn’t matter where I go now” he said. “Anywhere’s better than that ‘Kindergarten’ thing I suppose.”

“Oh, I think I know somewhere you can go~” spoke a familiar voice.

“Huh?? Who’s there???” asked Obsidian.

Looking back, Obsidian saw that it was Cobalt Sapphire, standing in a tree on a thin branch. He had a smug smile on his face, and he was tossing the fake-out Gem up and down like a ball.

Jumping down from the branch, Cobalt slowly strutted towards Obsidian.

“H-How’d you find me??”

“Oh come now, Traitor. Did you really think I was fooled by this~?” he chuckled, as held up the fake, before throwing it at Obsidian’s.

Catching his fake and crushing it in his hand, Obsidian growled and gritted his teeth, whispering “Drat...”

“I knew it wasn’t your Gem. This fake is poorly cut with uneven lines. Not to mention, it’s not shiny like yours and it goes have the gold trim around it! But I’ll give you some credit, you tried your best~" he chuckled again. “Perhaps had I been another Gem, I would have been fooled~!”

“B-But I saw you sit down with it!!”

“And I saw you through the rain and dirt looking at me~ But I figured I’d let you have a running start before I came after you” he smiled. “And now that I have you again, I’ll give you two options.”

“Option 1. Come back to the Kindergarten and continue your work.”

“And Option 2?”

“I destroy your physical form, and crush your Gem beneath my boots~!”

Pulling out his staff from his Gem, Obsidian grinned and said “I think I’ll go with Option 2~”

Cobalt Sapphire chuckled, as he pulled out his weapon (A giant sword) “Well...If that’s what you want...Death it is!”

Both entered a readied stance, with their weapons drawn and pointed at one another

“Before we begin, how about we make this fight a little more interesting?” asked Cobalt Sapphire.

“I’m listening....”

“If you can pin me down, -which I highly doubt will happen- I’ll give you anything you want~ No questions asked!”

“Anything huh?” taking a moment to think, Obsidian thought of what he wanted, coming up with the perfect prize.

“Alright. If I pin ya down, you have to be my partner and denounce your allegiance to the Homework, and live the rest of your life as a Gem Crystal or whatever those Rebels called themselves. Got it?”

“Oh dear...I don’t like the sound of that...But, I am a Gem of my word, and if you do win, I’ll do as you say~ Now then...Shall we?”

And so began Obsidian and Cobalt Sapphire's epic battle! For a month straight, the two clashed weapons and traded blows. There was not a single quiet moment as these two fought. They fought through rain, snow, and thunder, giving the fight their all!

But on the dawn of the 30th day, the tide finally turned.

The brook the fight had started in had become a crater created by their god like blows. The two were circling each other, clashing their weapons every few seconds.

“My word...” spoke Cobalt Sapphire “All those stories I had heard about your were true~ I though I’d never meet another Gem that was strong as me~”

“Heh heh, same to you! But I’m not just as strong as you...I’M STRONGER!!” Obsidian shouted as he dashed towards Cobalt Sapphire, charging his right shoulder into Cobalt Sapphire’s chest with a ton of force, causing Sapphire to drop his sword and fall onto the ground.

“GYAH!!!” Cobalt Sapphire screamed as he fell to the ground.

As Obsidian walked over to Cobalt Sapphire, Sapphire tried his best to push himself up off the ground, picking up his sword and using it as a cane to pull himself up.

“N-No...Not....yet...I’m not d-done y-ET!!!” yelped Cobalt Sapphire, as Obsidian pushed him down the ground with his foot on Sapphire’s stomach.

Standing atop Cobalt Sapphire, Obsidian pointed his staff at Sapphire’s face, making Sapphire flinch.

“Well...Would you look at that...I pinned you down to the ground~” Obsidian smiled, as he lowed his staff and sent it back into his Gem.

Still flinching, Cobalt Sapphire slowly opened his eyes and saw that Obsidian was pinning him to the ground. He didn’t want to accept it, but Obsidian was the victor.

“O-Oh...Well, a deal is a deal~” Cobalt Sapphire smiled. “I guess I’m a rebel now...”

Stepping off Cobalt Sapphire, Obsidian stretched his hand out in friendship, helping him up. “Heh, don’t worry. I’m sure you’ll get used it~” Obsidian smiled.

Now with Cobalt Sapphire as his partner and freed of slave labor, Obsidian set out to find more rebels, and to stop the Homeworld Gems whenever they can!

Admittedly at first, Cobalt Sapphire’s rebel-ness was phoned in, as he still thought highly of the Homeworld. But he eventually saw the true nature of the Homeworld Gems and grew to despise them like Obsidian.

He even grew to love Obsidian’s companionship, seeing him as a brother in spirit.

Wow I REALLY over did this. Anyone who read this far down deserves a medal. Anyways, that’s that...Hopefully I answered the prompt correctly, if not, WHOOPS. LOOKS LIKE ALL THIS WORK WAS FOR NOTHING.

Sing a Song : rewrite a Steven Universe song inspired by your gemsona.

Originally I was going to skip this one because A.) my singing voice blows, and B.) I couldn’t think of which song would work best with Obsidian and Cobalt Sapphire.

I thought Peace & Love would work since Obsidian is a Crystal Gem/former Homeworld Gem and Cobalt is a Homeworld Gem slowly turning to the Crystal side, but it didn’t turn out so hot...

But then I was listening to a non-S*U song and started making lyrics based around that.

So if I may, I’m going to bend the prompt just a -teeny- bit and present to you all....
