regency era verse bio, daenerys targaryen
daenerys comes from old money, her family a prominent and persistent fixture in their community. their home, the valyrian estate, had been in her family for generations. it was lavishly decorated with intricate dragons carved into its columns, representing their family sigil. while her father, aerys targaryen, was not a successful man himself, they lived a comfortably materialistic lifestyle. dany was the youngest of three born to aerys and rhaella targaryen, and their only daughter. her parents had a loveless marriage, dany had always known it to be true. her mother tried to cover it –– to hide that reality from her children –– but there was only so much she could do. tensions were often high in their house and the children could feel it, all the same.
aerys targaryen, and subsequently the targaryen family, were not well-received by their neighbors. his cruelty was regularly gossiped about by ladies over tea, claiming even the targaryen’s wealth and beauty were not enough to win their favor. mr. targaryen did not see issue with their place in society: by his standards, no lady in town was good enough a match for his son viserys, and he would rather daenerys die an old maid than marry below her family’s status. their neighbors obvious dislike did little to change him, though it always bothered mrs. targaryen. she was much the opposite of her husband: kind, well-spoken, and polished in her mannerisms. her reputation, though, was so heavily tied to aerys that it was seldom she was invited to any events. she had no support besides that of her children, leaving her deeply depressed. dany gravitated towards her mother all her life, but never felt enough to make her happy.
daenerys’ eldest brother, rhaegar, had married and moved out years prior, leaving viserys and herself behind at the valyrian estate. daenerys tries to visit rhaegar and his wife elia often, as rhaegar was always her favorite brother.
