Pax leaned forward as much as they could in the chair they were tied to, a smile of pure joy and relief tugging at the corners of their mouth. Out of anyone they wanted to see, it was Byakuya, the one that had their heart more than anyone else.

Despite the happiness, their eyes were distant, and the words of reassurance and promise went past them. They were too tired, too hurt, too relieved to finally be okay.

As soon as they were unrestrained, their body slumped forward. Their arms felt heavy, but they needed him, and they weakly held onto the affluent prodigy as small, almost broken sobs left them. They felt lightheaded from everything, their sight blurring for a moment before they tried to focus.

“J… Just take me home— Take me home, p-please—”

Large hands were gentle as they cusped Paxton’s face, wiping away grime and trying to examine their well being. Blue eyes scanned frantically over their features, unable to relax yet with the condition they were in.

“I’ve got you..” Byakuya muttered, making sure to catch them once the restraints were gone. Holding the smaller in his arms, he got back up to his feet.

“I will. You can rest easy now.” Despite his words, he doubted Pax would be able to sleep easily after this. Perhaps soon, due to exhaustion, but.. he couldn’t imagine what that wretched animal did to them. Carefully, as to not jostle them too much, he walked back the way he came, hoping to spot the nurse.

The hurt on Gundham’s face was enough to simultaneously make them jump off, but also run to him to hug the hurt away. It felt like a betrayal to him, but also to themself. They were causing this grief to them both.

Their breathing was heavy yet fast, the hands clutching their dark hair tightening its grasps on the locks, almost yanking out of the pure stress of the situation. Their jaw was so stiff, they almost couldn’t speak as their eyes stared at the ground through the pouring tears.

The way he called them his angel made their chest coil. It felt… undeserved.

“I— I mean-…” They couldn’t think. For once, they were losing their cool of the situation.

“What’s… what’s gonna happen when— when we get out? We’ll have to go home, and—” There was a sharp inhale at the thought. No, please. “We’ll go different places, I-I’d go home, I don’t wanna be alone— Not again, please, I-I don’t know where— I don’t know where I’d go-!” Their sobbing broke up their words with hiccups, eyes clenching shut.

“Y-You promised— b-but can you keep it?”

It’s been mere moments, barely minutes, but it simultaneously feels like time is going too fast and that the two have spent an eternity on this cliff at the same time. Every second being agony, but a blur at the same time. They could have talked for an hour, and he wouldn’t have known.

When we get out.. 

He had to make sure that Kei was still around for him to fill that promise in the first place. 

The way they broke to the thought of going home was more than telling, and Gundham couldn’t help a half-step forward. He wanted to hold them, to take them in his arms and let them sob it out at a safer spot, but.. He didn’t want to startle them.

“Nothing in this world could keep me from filling my promise. There has to be ways for us to stay together after this is all over, and I will find them.” For now, he had to put on a strong face. He had to, for the both of them. 

“You won’t have to go home, we’ll find a way. We’ll build our own future.. Together.” He kept his arms reached out and open for them, hoping with every atom of his being that it would get through to them.

“Hm? You do..?”

To say the breeder was confused was an understatement. The princess of darkness herself has something, for him? Gundham’s mind wondered to the possibilities, too much in his own confusion to even think about moving or wandering off.

Shiori tilted her head back at the hand in their hair. It felt… comforting. Something she didn’t get too often. A soft sigh escaped her.

The fact that all who died merely left without a second to waste was disturbing. The whole island felt emptier and colder. More alone. Her eyes closed for a moment, thinking about the troubling, spiritual situation that plagued her, and perhaps Gundham.

“Perhaps… yet I haven’t felt anything that seemed to be them. …In fact, I have felt nothing.”

Her eyes opened again at the remark, and she turned her head to look at him analytically.

“As far as I am concerned, you haven’t slept a wink, either. I will not attempt rest until you do,” She replied, her words simple, but her tone firm. “…Please.”

Gundham repeated the motion for the time being, it seemed to help, even if just a little. Though he knew it was only temporary.

With people leaving and more islands given to them every time.. the amount of space felt drastically more. There were several islands to go to now, but far less people to fill them. Not even the spirits of the victims.

“..As have I.” He sighed, a troubled look crossing his face “Not even those with close attachments to another still here..”

He stared back, raising a brow at the firm words. Taking a slow breath, he would pull her that much closer “As you wish, my dear.. Together we will reach the desired slumber.”

As much as she hated how weak it made her feel, it was… welcomed. Extremely welcomed. Love and any kind of affectionate touch had evaded her, mostly from her eerie ability that set everyone on edge.

With how expressive the breeder was today, they should have expected more affection than usual. A soft wheeze left her when Gundham pulled back, but she still held onto his hand. Gently, but it was still a hold that she didn’t want to break just yet.

“Maybe, yet… you know I do appreciate it,” She sighed. She looked down, her voice getting even quieter. “…I always want your affection, I-I’m merely… unused to such a thing…”

Perhaps it was how much the two were similar that had Gundham so much more comfortable compared to anyone else. If he were to string a characteristic speal of dramatics about her, the word ‘fated’ or ‘destined’ would more than likely be involved.

The fact that she still held his hand was reassuring, a soft squeeze being given to her hand. His shoulders relaxed, though his blush only deepened to her quiet, but telling words.

“I.. I-I-I see..!” He sputtered for a moment, before trying to get some semblance of himself together “Well, um.. if.. if that’s the case, then.. p..perhaps w..we can..” What ever he was trying to suggest got muffled as he hid himself deeper into his scarf.

Affection was still something new to Shiori. Very new. It was something they saw out of their grasp for the longest time, and with Gundham being so loving, she had to get used to it.

So when the Ultimate Breeder kissed up her arm, Shiori had to bite back a gasp of surprise, and she turned as red as a tomato.

Her knees almost buckled with the closer he got to her shoulder, and she mentally kicked herself for seeming so weak at affection. It wasn’t the persona she allowed others to see.

If he looked, Shiori was hiding her flustered face in her free hand, and she was almost trembling. “Gh— M-My apologies… I-I didn’t expect it…”

Touch was something that Gundham had, quite literally, avoided as if it was the plague for the majority of his life. There were a handful of reasons why, but exceptions were something he was certain he’d never find.. Until Shiori. There was just something about the medium that had his heart craving for affection.

Having gone over this fact had made the ultimate breeder particularly expressive that day, far more than usual; which was highlighted with how much love and adoration was set into each kiss.

He looked up at her once he had placed the final kiss on her shoulder, She was positively red, which wasn’t too uncommon of a sight when affection was on the table.

Though a part of him did feel self-conscious of just how much this act of affection had affected her, straightening himself and clearing his throat “..Perhaps I should have asked first if something of that sort was alright to do..”

Maybe it wasn’t a good idea to have Gundham stay at their cottage.

Shiori had been staring blankly into the dark room for quite a while, and Gundham knew they were doing it. And that their eyes only blinked— they never closed for more than that.

They gave a hum as an answer, sinking a little more in his warm embrace. The murders that had gone on were… stressful. What was even more disturbing is that the killed and blackened never showed up as spirits. Typically, the murdered and, occasionally, murderers would stay.

“…I wanted to see if… they would come back,” She whispered gently. She wanted to see their friends again.

Gundham was restless himself, his mind going over their experiences on the island thus far. There’s only so much he could do to distract himself before he had to face the reality. In this restlessness, it was easy to spot that his partner was also not getting any sleep.

A pale hand carefully ran through her long dark locks, hoping to provide some peace to their mind. 

“..I see.” The lack of spiritual presence has not gone unnoticed by the breeder either. Not even when they had just passed did he feel any lingering aura stick around. 

Something about this island just wasn’t right.

“..Perhaps we can try to contact them here soon. But, for right now.. It’s rather late, and you need your rest my dear.”
