The hurt on Gundhamâs face was enough to simultaneously make them jump off, but also run to him to hug the hurt away. It felt like a betrayal to him, but also to themself. They were causing this grief to them both.
Their breathing was heavy yet fast, the hands clutching their dark hair tightening its grasps on the locks, almost yanking out of the pure stress of the situation. Their jaw was so stiff, they almost couldnât speak as their eyes stared at the ground through the pouring tears.
The way he called them his angel made their chest coil. It felt⊠undeserved.
âIâ I mean-âŠâ They couldnât think. For once, they were losing their cool of the situation.
âWhatâs⊠whatâs gonna happen whenâ when we get out? Weâll have to go home, andââ There was a sharp inhale at the thought. No, please. âWeâll go different places, I-Iâd go home, I donât wanna be aloneâ Not again, please, I-I donât know whereâ I donât know where Iâd go-!â Their sobbing broke up their words with hiccups, eyes clenching shut.
âY-You promisedâ b-but can you keep it?â
Itâs been mere moments, barely minutes, but it simultaneously feels like time is going too fast and that the two have spent an eternity on this cliff at the same time. Every second being agony, but a blur at the same time. They could have talked for an hour, and he wouldnât have known.
He had to make sure that Kei was still around for him to fill that promise in the first place.Â
The way they broke to the thought of going home was more than telling, and Gundham couldnât help a half-step forward. He wanted to hold them, to take them in his arms and let them sob it out at a safer spot, but.. He didnât want to startle them.
âNothing in this world could keep me from filling my promise. There has to be ways for us to stay together after this is all over, and I will find them.â For now, he had to put on a strong face. He had to, for the both of them.Â
âYou wonât have to go home, weâll find a way. Weâll build our own future.. Together.â He kept his arms reached out and open for them, hoping with every atom of his being that it would get through to them.
