The gadget at least was handy, he had one similar to that one in his utility belt, though he rarely ever used it, as it was better to fight the criminals in the dark, that way, they could see him. But he did use it when he was investigating a crime scene, so he could see better, “That’s useful, do you have anything that could trap the criminals together, I think that’s the one gadget that I don’t really have, but I could use one.”

“I might have something. What are you thinking?” He walks over to open a Fraser full of various different gadgets that have that function. “This one will toss a specially designed sort of rope to wrap around someone. You can’t pull it off unless you really know how to use it. Someone like YOU could make use of it. The standard criminal? Wouldn’t be going anywhere. Want to try it out?” Ted asks as he holds it up, and glances at some of the test dummies set up on one side of the laboratory. “It doesn’t hurt them either, just really durable material.”

“You beat Batman though, considering he just has one,” he grinned, as far as he was concerned at least, maybe he just knew about one of them, and just had been to one of them, “I can see that,” he noticed some seemed similar to the ones he had, others, he had no idea what it was, “What this one does?” he asked, pointing to one of the gadgets which he couldn’t even imagine what it did, “I guess so, but if I end up wanting one of them, I will definitely tell you.”

“You got me there!” Ted says as he points to the kid, a laugh leaving his lips. He walks over to where Chris was, and getting a better look at what he was holding. “It lets out a bright beam of light. It would probably damage your eyes if you stared at it too long. If used indoors you won’t see ANYTHING in that space. It’ll just all be too bright. It’s pretty useful sometimes I’ll admit. I don’t ever use anything lethal, only practical.”

For the most part, Chris was a really positive person, always telling people that things would get better, and that in the end, things would be fine, but there were some times in his life that he was negative, or at least realistic. While in the phantom zone, he didn’t think that he would ever get out again, mostly because he didn’t want to put his hopes up, “Alright,” he smiled at him, before starting to walk behind him, until they reached his lab. He looked around, it was a lot smaller than the batcave, but it was still pretty good, in his opinion, “Nice, I liked it.”

“Obviously it’s not as cool as BATMAN, but I always preferred to be on the move with my work. PLUS my more large base is back in Chicago.” Ted shrugs his shoulders a bit, knowing that he would never be cool or important as the trinity — but made peace with that. “Thanks, I’m glad to hear it. I mostly come in here to design gadgets for myself or other heroes.” He looks at a table full of various weapon prototypes. “You alright with everything going on lately?”

Pizza sounded great. It was probably his favorite type of food — especially Hawaiian Pizza. Even though the world was divided about pineapple as a pizza topping, Billy kept his mouth shut about liking it. He didn’t need to feel more like a freak in this world.

Billy nodded and smiled. “Lead the way!”

Ted was glad that Billy agreed to accompany him — better than lingering around here with those posters. He doesn’t even know if something would happen necessarily, but just doesn’t want to risk it on an empty stomach.

He starts walking in one of the directions, looking forward to getting his hands on a slice of that greasy delight. “What topping should we get?”

“But I want to, we don’t really have a lot of nice people in the world,” he wanted the other to see how grateful he was that he promised him to protect him, even if he actually ended up not doing it, he still appreciated, “Sure, why not?” he smiled at him, he didn’t drink a lot of coffee, but he didn’t exactly dislike it, “Oh, awesome, I would love to see it, I’m sure that’s really cool,” 

“There really isn’t.” Ted doesn’t understand why so many people in the world want to focus on the negative aspects to life — but at least the Justice League was able to make a difference. He steps away from the vehicle since it’s pretty much FIXED at this point. “Follow me.” Ted says as he motions toward the door leading out of the garage area and to where his LAB is waiting. Once inside it’s full of robots, all sorts of gear, and many frames photos with his team and friends. “Here it is.”

“I agree, although I like to think of them as one skill; makes it seem like a lot less work.” She jokes lightly as her form takes a more lazy position in the seat. “Telling people what they want to hear has been a key part of my life and is actually a great survival tool. Even if what I say is a lie 90% of the time.” Lisa states with a shrug as her gaze moves from him to the view outside. That was until his next statement causing her gaze to return to him with an added light smirk to present upon her lips. “I doubt he likes the color for the same reason I do. Its pretty but toxic…like me.”  

The man can’t afford to get too sentimental right now, but he does wonder if Michael was okay out there somewhere. Ted shakes his head off of the thought though, and knows that at the speed BUG was flying it would reach the destination soon enough. “I’ll keep that in mind, but that’s fair. Sometimes you do what you have to so you can survive.” He shifts his position to look at her better. “Is that why you picked it?”

“Thanks, I really appreciate that,” he smiled at him, it was nice to meet people like that, people that genuinely cared, there weren’t a lot of them in the world anymore, it was sad to think about it, “That’s great news, though I didn’t exactly mind staying here, we’re having a nice conversation,” when you have fun, you can barely notice the time passing by.

“No need to thank me.” Ted was just happy to help, even if it was a little bit. He doesn’t mind fixing a car on occasion. “We are having a nice conversation. I don’t mind you staying. I can make some coffee when we’re done here?” He offers, and tilts his head with an idea. “I could show you my lab. Closest thing to a cave as one might get.”

“I’m glad you haven’t, it’s not a good place to be in at all,” he wouldn’t wish for anyone to be stuck in that place, “I hope so too,” he nodded, his family was on Earth, they could not be biologically, but they still were his family, “Yeah, it wasn’t a nice place to grow up in.”

“Well — you’re here now and if anyone tries to take you back to that awful place I’ll be there to PUNCH someone for you.” Ted steps back to go try turning the vehicle on, see how it sounds now that he changed a few of the pets around. “Good news is that maybe it won’t take me hours to fix after all.” He says turning it off, and going back to look under the hood.

“Considering that I was born in the Phantom Zone, I’m liking earth a lot more,” he admitted, he wanted distance from that place, especially because there were people in there that he wanted distance from. “I prefer a thousand times staying in Earth than going back there again,” but he would do it if he needed to do it to protect people, like was the case the last time.

“I can imagine. I’ve never been to the phantom zone, only heard stories about it. I’m glad you’re here on Earth then. I hope you never have to go back there. Bad memories?” Ted asks as he lifts his head to look at him with grease covered hands.

“Oh, that’s horrible, I can only imagine how hard it must have been for you,” he couldn’t understand because he never had to deal with that, the closest to a medical condition he had, was when he still had his growth spurts, “Well, my history is slightly complicated, to begin with the fact that I’m not from Earth,” he told him the truth, he might as well do the same.

Ted nods his head, the learning of his health put everything into perspective. He hopes that the kid never has to go through that too, or anyone for the matter. He has started to take better care of himself as a result. “Yeah? How have you been liking EARTH compared to where you’re from?”

Food sounded nice, especially given the fact his stomach growled loudly at the mention. Billy’s face turned red and he rubbed his belly. “I didn’t realize how hungry I was. I did forget to eat before heading here.”

It was also a great way to spend time with his teammate — if they were considered teammates. If they weren’t, then he got to spend time with the person behind the Blue Beetle. Though, he wasn’t sure if Ted was the current Blue Beetle, or if it was Jaime Reyes. Either way, spending time with someone he knew was good company.

“What did you have in mind, Mr. Kord?!”

It night be confusing for other people with the fact there was TWO blue beetles out there, and maybe that’s because Ted was too stubborn to retire. He was acting as a mentor to Jaime, and the two of them do have very different tactics when it comes to fighting. Jaime has the scarab, but Ted doesn’t. Which was okay, he made peace with that. He does like spending time with Billy though, especially since they’re teammates and all. “Well we can’t have you being HUNGRY. There’s this great pizza place around the block we should check out. I’ve heard good things about it.”

“Of course, you seem as though you’d be a natural at it if you just gave it a try. Believe me its actually a handy skill to have in a fight. Charm can be used on anyone at any time.” To Lisa, it was all about using one’s skills of empathy to sense the tone and use that knowledge to change the tone to what you want it to be. Of course it was fake, simply an act about 90% of the time, but once in a blue moon even she couldn’t fully resist making it true. “Your best friend, really? Well see now it sounds like a challenge.” She says with a playful smirk and light side glance. 

Ted has some game, a little charm if he does try. He just doesn’t know if this was the right time to be flirting with anyone, but he should have some fun with this too. “You can get a lot of things with a charismatic attitude, which goes hand-in-hand with charm. I’m used to saying what makes people happy, I’ve gotten good at public speaking for that reason.” The man admits as he sets the vehicle into autopilot so he can turn to look at Lisa again. “Yeah, he can get on my nerves sometimes, but he’s pretty great. He likes the whole GOLD aesthetic.”

“A health matter? What happened? If you don’t mind me asking,” he made sure to say the last part, so he knew that he could choose to not say it, as he knew it was none of his business, “Oh, wow, that’s pretty impressive, I don’t think I’ve done anything that big yet,” he closed the passage between the Phantom Zone and the rest of the universe, he sacrificed his freedom for that , but he always had a hard time to think high about himself.

”I developed a heart condition. I had to start medications, change routines before I could put my suit on again.” Ted admits as he looks over at the kid, stopping with the parts in his hands. “What about you? What’s your story?” He decides it would be fair to learn about each other. His gaze turns back to the vehicle to finish attaching a part. He hopes this works.

“Well, anyone can be a hero if they train for it, the person doesn’t need to have powers,” the whole Batfamily didn’t have them, as far as he was concerned at least, Chris wore the bat logo on his chest, but he was the exception, “Justice League, huh? That’s pretty impressive, are you still in it or did you give up on the hero’s life?”

”Yeah — I’m still in it. I took a break for a few months for a health matter, but I’m getting back into the hero life.” Ted admits with a proud smile. “I helped build the Hall of Justice admit it or not, or well fund it at least.” Which makes the man laugh as he continues to work on the vehicle. His hands taking apart some of the broken pieces to replace them to see what that will do.

Billy thought the other was right. They didn’t know anything about this drug that promised these things, yet alone know the side effects if it were taken. “You’re right. We wouldn’t want to find out.”

Though, to be honest, the boy was somewhat curious. He had to know more about the drug. He had to find someone who took it and ask his questions.

At the same time, he felt relieved that there were people out in this scary world looking out for him. He smiled once Ted placed his hand on his shoulder. “We should probably get out of here, huh?”

There was many questions about this drug going around being promised — Ted decided he was going to do some digging. Somehow be’ll be able to figure something out hopefully with the connections he has. Who’s to say? “It would be a good idea to get out of here. I think we both have many needing to be answered, but it’s best to look for them somewhere safer.” The man admits as he smiles at the boy. “You hungry? We can bet something to eat and discuss this some more.”

Lisa enjoyed the flirty banter despite her deep fear of getting too involved. She was still human after all and therefore she did still crave connection; even if it was mostly one sided. “That would be very interesting to see.” Since meeting Ted she has found herself actually respecting him and started to find him to be quite funny. A smirk appears on her lips as she follows him over to the vehicle. “Looks cozy. I’ll try not to annoy you too much before we get there, but if I do… just remember you’re doing it for the kids and the other freaks.” She happily teases him. 

While it has been a while for him since flirting with ANYONE, Ted thinks that this would be good for him. “You think so?” He usually doesn’t be so open about charming others, trying to be more subtle about it. He takes off into the sky, and looks over at her. “Trust me no one could be more annoying than my best friend, Michael. I’m sure you’re fine.” He says with a playful wink before turning back to look at where they’re going, plugging in the coordinates.

A small laugh came out of his lips, he saw nothing wrong with being confident, even if he barely any himself. “Well, so far you aren’t being a bad company, but let’s see if I will agree with you, only time will tell,” he joked, “So, how long have you done this?”

“I’ve been inventing things since I was a kid. I made a name for myself — trying to prove that I could be a HERO even if I didn’t have any powers. I managed to get a spot in the Justice League even. ME! It always amazes me. I really like building robots too.” Ted says openly, the gear around his area doesn’t leave anything to a secret.
