kohl had decided that today he would indulge in human food. granted, it had been a few years since he had tested it out, so it might not go the way he wanted. he had the bag of dumplings in hand and was going to head back to the lab to run a few more tests but before he did that, not thinking or even looking at his surroundings, the door to the building rung and he collided with another person walking into the restaurant.

the bag of dumplings toppled to the ground, dumping out all over both of their shoes. Kohl sighed. His vampire reflexes were useless at this point and he cursed himself while he bent down to collect the bag.

"hey, i'm so sorry about your shoes." he started. "they're nice too, shit." he muttered to himself. "i can get you a new pair or i can pay for the dry cleaning. plus, here, i have to go back to get some more dumplings, so let me get yours too." he said, glancing up at the person he had bumped into.

the one time saskia felt like attempting to live a human life was when things went horribly wrong for her and others. it seemed by she and this other vampire were both having it rough, though saskia was distracted by her phone, nose deep in whatever she was reading that was long forgotten about now as she shoved it in her back pocket.

"hmph. new shoes and two portions of dumplings? ya got that kinda money, kid? these are one of a kind, from 2006." saskia squinted at the other vampire, sizing him up and attempting to intimidate him but alas, she was never good at it nor was she skilled at lying. "kidding, you did me a favour, they're like super old and worn out." the vampette was smiling now, the last thing anyone this awkward needed was an argument.

it seemed kind of sad, didn't it? her second most visited place was some rinky dink dive bar that reminded her of a place she hadn't been in, in ten years - and when she left, she swore she'd never return to. it helped that the only person who made it feel like home had spent ten years of her short life making her wish she'd never been born much less in said town. yet there she sat at the bar, fingers gripping her drink as if it's a life jacket. the music is just loud enough that her human ears don't register someone speaking directly to her until she turns slightly on the stool to see them closer enough for her to hear, "did you want this seat?" she figured that's why they spoke, not caring to admit she hadn't heard them the first time. being a human who loved the supernatural left her with serious fomo. missing out on hearing well was one of those things.

nicki's was an interesting place, some would even say niche. she is certain that even in 2025 there were plenty of bars, cafes and restaurants that were themed like years ago; maybe something pre-historic, wouldn't that be something? nevertheless, saskia enjoyed how lowkey this place was; despite the music being a little too loud, and the overall place needing a little more love. it had been a while since she had seen a human at nicki's; there were so many other places more worthy of seeing, it was almost refreshing. a genuine smile was on her lips as she approached the other. "nope, you seem pretty comfortable there. are you waiting for anyone?"

Saskia doesn't remember much of her life before her vampirism. What she can remember isn't anything of note, either. A decent home, an okay school experience, close enough to her family and a few friends. She knew she must have enjoyed writing; as she does that now, and she must have had a liking for the night sky as she spends most of her evenings gazing up at the stars... Then again, vampires don't sleep, so what else is there to do?

What is most infuriating is that she cannot remember who made her this way; who gave her the gift, or curse of vampirism. All she remembers is waking from a nightmare of seemingly endless pain and thrashing around to a new life of endless hunger and vengeance. She wasn't given a manual or guide on how to live like this for at least ten years of turning, Saskia survived because she had to, there was no other choice.

Eventually she came across others like her by accident; mistaking them for food. These other vampires taught her of the hunt properly, how to use her new gifts and even where to get a supply of synth - the latter of which she prefers.

These days you can find or rather hear Saskia on your local radio at night where she plays the latest music playing around the globe or catch her at Nicki's hanging out and pretending she's still in 2025.
