Georgina groaned in frustration, rubbing her temples to ease the headache she could feel coming on. “Is that what it’ll take? Me dropping out of your class? I’ll do it right now if you ask.” She shook her head, looking down at the ground. She briefly wondered how on earth they’d let it get this far. “My parents will never approve of anything I do, Liam. I’m trying so hard and it’s never good enough. The only thing I can hold on to is that the choices I’m making are mine, not theirs.” She frowned. “You. I want you. I want us.”

HE CLENCHED HIS TEETH when she talked about dropping out of his class right now. that was the last thing that he wanted. «no. you would sabotage your own future and you know it. i understand that your parents are hard on you, but letting this opportunity go to waste would not be a good choice. trust me.» liam knew what it was like, after all. «and what kind of an us would that be, georgie? we wouldn’t even be able to have dinner together.»

“I totally understand. there is a lot of cool characters which can be honored as favorite ones. and that’s cool, I guess. everybody has its pros and cons.” shrugging. “don’t worry, I won’t force you to make a decision.”

THAT WAS TRUE and when it came to that there was no big difference between fiction and reality, was there? everything and everyone had its pros and cons, always. «thank you. that would be torture.» liam told her, lips twitching into a small smirk. «so what were you up to before you found clear evidence that luna is among us? i hope that pair of shoes is not yours?»

━ NOEL.

“Nice to meet you,” Noel smiled. “thanks for the coffee. Have you been in Chicago for long?” he asked.

THE BLOND WAVED IT OFF when he thanked him for replacing his coffee. it was the least he could do, really. «i was born in the united kingdom, but i moved to chicago a couple of years ago.» his time in america had been more difficult than he imagined, but hey. he was trying to cope and that was something, right? «what about you? are you from here?» liam asked as he waited for their orders.

Georgina frowned slightly at his sigh, immediatley feeling guilty for upsetting him. She knew she had to stand her ground though, she couldn’t take the not knowing of their whole situation and she knew it was something they needed to discuss. “Yeah well, you’ve hardly looked at me since Mardi gras so I’ve had nothing but time.” Her irish accent coming out thick as she became more upset with the situation, she started fussing with her cross again, biting down on her lip. “If that’s what it takes to have you, Liam, then yes. We’ll figure something out! We can go out of town, we can sneak around, when my parents are away you can come to my place.” She narrowed her eyes. “I wish you’d stop telling me what I deserve and start thinking about what I want, Liam. And more importantly, start thinking about what you want.”

THIS WAS NOT AN EASY SITUATION and it only made sense that both of them were not exactly happy about it. it was quite the mess they had gotten themselves into, wasn’t it? «you are right. i kept my distance from you - because i am trying to do the right thing.» but that was not what she wanted to hear and liam was well aware of it. «how are we supposed to figure it out? even if you dropped out of my class tomorrow and i stopped being your professor people would never approve of this. your parents would never approve of this.» and what kind of a life would they live anyway? if they had to get out of town to be affectionate with each other? «alright. why don’t you tell me what you want, georgina? what you really want. i’m listening.»

Arthur nodded.” Well next time I panic I know who talk and come rescue me.” He took a deep breath, rubbing his face to try and stay awake.” So, how have you been? Did you have a fun night the rest of the night at the party?”

HE LAUGHED LIGHTLY before he gave him a shrug of his shoulders. «anytime. does that mean you are actually going to need my number, so you can add me to your emergency contacts?» liam kept things light and playful, but he pointed at the free seat when arthur asked him that question. «i hope you don’t mind?» he already sat down, but he would keep the conversation short if the other needed some time to rest his mind from the apparent exhaustion. «fun. that’s one way of putting it. i hope you didn’t end up in another cupcake debacle? did you enjoy yourself?»

Georgina sighed, folding her arms and raising an eyebrow at him. “We see each other almost every day because we have to.” She furrowed her brow. “You haven’t chosen to see me at all, or asked to see me after class.” She knew why, and she knew that he was being sensible but she couldn’t help but let it get to her a little. “I’d say that you are…I’ve been thinking anyway.” She jumped up on to one of the desks at the front, crossing her legs. “We have two options here. We can carry this on, and risk everything for it. You can have me and I can have you and we can keep it a secret. I like the way I feel around you, Liam. I like the way you make me feel.” She frowned. “But, there’s also the other option. We give this up now and play it safe for both of us. Ball’s in your court.”

SOMEONE WAS IN A MOOD. it did not take a genius to see that when she crossed her arms and looked at him the way she did. «i’m not purposely trying to avoid you then.» liam corrected himself with a sigh. «i wanted us to have some time.» time to think, time to breathe, time to figure out where they were standing - especially after the mardi gras party. the words that came from georgina’s lips made him laugh for a second, but it was not because he was so amused about them. much the opposite. «and how is that supposed to work out for us, huh? we continue to sneak around? we never go out together? come on, georgie, you deserve better than that.» she had to want more than that too, right? or was it all about the sense of danger that came with their little affair? «no. no, the ball is not in my court. this is not something i can decide on my own.»

“see, the whiskey would’ve helped if you’d given it the chance… and hey, it’s not a nasty thing, apparently i’m good with my tips and they dig me now.” archer pointed at liam’s drink that was being placed on the counter before he headed to a table. “so, how’s life been? who are you sleeping with this week?”

THAT REMARK MADE HIM LAUGH AGAIN and liam nodded his head in defeat. «whiskey always helps, doesn’t it?» and maybe that was just what he needed. a good night that resulted in a classic hangover, but he kept that thought to himself. for the time being, anyway. «your tips? right, archer.» he mocked him and he grabbed his order before he followed him to an empty table. «who am i sleeping with this week? come on, i’m not that bad. i change my girls after a day, not a week.» that last part was only a joke, even if he knew that he could be quite difficult to tame. «you don’t even wanna know. it’s... complicated.» to say the least.

━ MARNIE.

marnie’s eyes rolled at his words, though it was accompanied by a short burst of soft laughter. “ it’s not sludge — it’s delicious syrupy goodness & it keeps me functioning. ” she shrugged, a weak attempt at defending her choice of coffee. “ that’s true. doesn’t sound like the best trade. i mean, really there’s no harm in me just taking the one you sipped — wouldn’t be the first time. ” an eyebrow raised at him, but she accepted the fact that he was already ordering a fresh drink. “ but thank you. i appreciate it. ”

THERE WERE TRACES OF A SINCERE SMILE on his lips when she rolled her eyes at him and he simply shook his head, trying his hardest not to look too amused. «you can say whatever you want to say. it’s sludge - but hey. as long as it keeps you functioning...» it wasn’t even that bad, but not being serious made it somewhat easier to be around her. liam watched her for a second and he nodded, even though his smile began to fade. «i know it wouldn’t be. but things are different now.» it was one thing to share a cup with someone you were engaged to. at this moment in time, he wouldn’t even call them friends, so... «it’s no big deal. and don’t thank me yet - you can thank me if i manage not to mix them up again.» the male joked, though he looked less amused this time.

“yes.” she nodded and sighed as well. “exactly. poor luna.” then her dramatic expression turned into an amused one. “when i was younger I had one pair of these shoes. luna was my fave character so my grandma bought one pair for me.”

WILLIAM GRINNED AT HER when he saw the amused look on her face and he gave her a playful aw after she told him that she had a pair of the shoes because of luna. «really? that’s kind of cute.» and really nice of her grandmother too. «i’m not even sure if i had a favorite.» he simply loved the entire world that j.k. rowling created.

Georgina concentrated on finishing the work when she heard him dismiss the class. She packed her things into her bag, nodding when he asked if he could have a word, to make it seem normal. “Yes professor.” As she watched the last group of people leave the classroom, she moved from her seat, moving over to his desk, standing there awkwardly. “You’ve been avoiding me since Mardi Gras.”

HE RETURNED HER NOD before he focused on the papers on his desk, pushing some of them into his briefcase and leaving others out there to make it seem like he had an actual reason to talk to georgina, even after he dismissed all other students. her words made him laugh under his breath, but the sound was not filled with a lot of humor. «we see each other almost every single day.» liam argued, though he knew that was not what she meant. «i wouldn’t exactly say i’m avoiding you.» no. he was trying to keep a safe distance, one that was supposed to make it easier for them to be around each other.
