and i dont know why i do it, but i reach out. that other person does the same, moves the same, closer and closer until the surface stops us both. no amount of scratching and clawing could help, but we try, with a desperation like if we can just reach the other then everything will make sense. if we can just touch that other thing, the one that lives in the reverse, then there would be no more questions. but the glass is solid. and the answers are marbles in water, absolutely unseeable. and i dont know why i do it, but i reach out.

Lover's Lane is a dirt road in a county nobody can remember the name of. you can only go down it at night, full speed, in a car as old as your father. you will find the person you are looking for when a pair of legs appear in your weak headlights and suddenly your whole life is different.
you have a passenger now, and the sun is out, and they have a map that can get you home. that is your reward for continuing, no matter how terrifying those shapes and screams were. the second your windshield turned red, everything became lovely.

quietly, softly, purely. she dangles above in the darkness like a lovestruck guardian, eyes forever set on the beloved. ah, who has caught the attention of the nightwatch? a woman, with curls of foam and salty wet lips. her call is just as quiet, just as soft, just as pure. they are drawn together, the push and pull a teasing game between one another. each day is begun and punctuated with a kiss between immortal lovers, forever locked in their roles but forever testing the limits.

there was nothing to look out the window at. it was dark, the sun long since departed, but that is not why you stared. you recall him, in love, grinning unapologetically. he still is this way. the only difference is that the man he now smiles over is no longer you.
was it worth it? did the sentencing of a man convicted of the same crime you committed every second of every day infuse enough fear into your bones? as you stare, a gaze without focus burning holes into your lawn, you wonder: “have i become the same man that calls my kind Unspeakable? and, by God, when did i start pretending to not be the same?”

you cannot hide from love. you cannot cower from it, like you do a spider in the bathtub. you cannot turn your gaze, your cheek, your head away from it like it is a child that will get bored and run off if ignored. you cannot, quite simply, be a coward! who are you, to tell love to vanish? that it is not good enough for you? that it is not clean enough for you? love is spotless. love is untainted and undiluted in all forms. love will sit with you, an overseeing presence, hovering above and behind your shoulder, until your blood becomes stagnant. you cannot lie to it. you cannot force it away. you cannot hide from love.
