Not really bud, sorry!Not only am I (Somerset) super busy - it's my last year of school so uni prep has sort of consumed everything else, but both Hudson and I have left the Hetalia fandom pretty much entirely.If you really want an OC review tho in a much more serious and less insulting way, I'd still be happy to do it privately (just ask for my personal off anon ^^)

Dude if you want to make one go for it!! Honestly, it’s your choice. I seen a couple of incredibly well done made-up country OCs in my time, it’s just a shame the bad vastly out number the good.

That being said, we could always do with more amazing made up country OCs. Go for it my dude!

If one were to make an OC of an English county, do you think they should have the surname 'Kirkland', or an individual surname? Considering different counties have different origins (celtic/norse/roman/etc), and some are more ethnically diverse than others, but they're all still part of England. [Sorry if that was confusing, I couldn't think of the best way to word it.]

Personally, I would try and incorporate a surname from their origin at least in some way, even if it ended up double barrelling the surname, especially with counties with very strong identities, like Cornwall and Yorkshire.

Principality of Ostlake OC Review

Hey guys, look who it is, that’s right, it’s your favourite person who has been to busy to do OC reviews because I have mocks on thurday and GCSEs start in march. 

However, here comes an OC sent in by a loyal reader of our blog, so thank you!! Let’s get to it. 

Note: I found this on the Internet, it’s not mine, and I think the country is made up. Anyway, here it is. There’s no picture but it gives a relatively good description.

Name: The Principality of Ostlake (micronation)

Yep, This is made up, it’d be Ostsee if it was real (probably- and even then it would mean “principality of baltic sea”, E for effort I suppose. 

Also google is my best friend and that says it’s made up too

DISCLAIMER: I struggle with made up country OCs, because most of the time they never give a location even generally, which is a sin ((*ding*)), I’ll give it my best shot though. 

Human name: Amy Taylor

Gender: Female

Age: 15

I’m just going to presume this is human age

Birthday: April 25th

Ok, there is so much you can do with Birthdays with hetalia, you can say it’s the independence day, founding day, day affiliated with an icon from that country, and so on and so forth, just saying “birthday” and leaving it at that is kind of lazy. 

Languages: English

Just English? Why not spice it up a little, you have “Ost” so why not put in German? or an indigenous language? Granted, there’s little you can do with a micronation but still. 

Looks: Shoulder length light brown hair, grey-blue eyes. A straw boater hat with black and white bands to represent the water she’s surrounded with, a white blouse, black bow tie, black city shorts, white, black and red striped socks and black Chelsea boots.

I didn’t want this description to go to waste, so I drew my own redition of her. It didn’t specify whether she had straight or curly hair so I drew her with straight hair. You’re welcome. 

Likes: Sunshine, reading, drawing/painting, killer whales, spiders and America. 

Let’s go through these one by one shall we

So what I’m getting from these is this would be the PERFECT time to delve deeper into the history, eco system, etc etc of the nation. She likes sunshine? Is her nation cloudy, or does it get a lot of sun? What sort of relationship does she have with the sun? 

”Reading” is incredibly bland, it’d be a lot better if you specified why she likes reading, does she have an famous author? Are books plentiful? What does she like reading? 

“Drawing/painting” is very similar, was she founded by an artist, does she live on art? Surely finding art supplies would be difficult on an island?

“Killer whales/spiders” These are more interesting, are there laws to do with these in the nation? Does she have a trade to do with them? A certain species or breed? There’s SO MUCH potential here for a genuinely interesting and wonderful OC, so far, though, she’s been very bland. 

And can I just say when you describe a country in the “likes” section, it sounds really cheesy and stupid. The best place to put it is in the relationships section, whcih I can see just below, where you can stress how much you like them all you want, just keep it out of the “likes”, please. 

Dislikes: When people say she’s not a country, 

see: every micronation OC ever.

History: The Principality of Ostlake, more commonly known as Ostlake, was established in 1886, a while after America’s independence from England. It lies as a small island 13 miles off the cost of Washington

and because I’m an ignorant Brit I went and looked up where Washington state was.

That’s where I thought Ohio was. 

Oops. 

Anyway, so far so good. 

and is currently under America’s rule, despite being owned by a “prince” (hence Principality).

So she’s like part of a commonwealth? Or is she a state-not-state? 

 There is no sigh of Ostlake becoming independent from America any time soon. 

This was a very short history section, but I’ll presume it’s a wip. So far so good, OP (Y) 

Relationships: America: Due to being ruled by him, Ostlake spends a lot of time with him and sometimes goes to world meetings with him (as long as she “stays silent”). Together they play video games together, have Nerf gun fights and eat hamburgers, as Ostlake consists of twelve American people. Sometimes she goes and stays with him rather than back in her home. 

Fair enough. This seems like a very “shipping OC” thing, though, and trust me, that is not good. 

Sealand: The two of them are both micronations, and met in the Micronations Club. Due to the similar age, they like to have fun together, sharing the same interests and both being surrounded by a body of water. 

“similar age”. OP, I myself am 15, last time I hung around with a 12 year old it ended in disaster, I wouldn’t consider their dynamic great based on human age, however, this is just an assumption because this OC has literally no personality. 

Wy: Like Sealand, they met in the Micronations Club, and made good friends.

This seems pretty pointless.

 Latvia: Whenever Sealand visits Latvia, Ostlake tags along too.

Liechtenstein: Since Ostlake is six times smaller than her, and they’re both recognised as a really small nation, the two of them will sit next to each other in some world meetings. 

Six times??? We talking area??? Because the population of Lichtenstein is 34000 and that’s a lot more than 6x12.

You make a valid point, and one that I thought of at the time of writing my answer to the question in question. 

But at the same time, if you want your OC to be accepted and well liked, I’d stay far away from the internet as a hetalia OC. You’re likely to get a lot of flack for it otherwise. 

Beyond that, knock yourself out kid.

Sorry it's really late, or early, I don't know your time zone😬. I just wanted to ask these questions before I forget. 1. Is it okay for me to do an OC for Madagascar even though many fans use that nation? 2. Should I include a bit of info about her 2p? 3. Also, should her military outfit be from modern or world war days? (If that's the case then she would have to wear a French legionnaire's uniform, because she was still under French rule) Thanks! 1. Absolutely! You can make an OC for any nation you want, provided canon gives space for you too (eg. Maybe don’t make an England OC, because it interferes with canon, or an Italy OC because it REALLY screws over canon.) But don’t be put off by the fact that a lot of other people have made an OC of the nation you’re making an OC of. 

2. Go for it! 2Ps are a lot of fun, I’d say it’d be pretty cool if you did, just make sure you make it clear that that’s her 2P, and not her actual personality, unless it’s specifically a 2P focused OC, then it’d be wise to ensure that the 2P doesn’t overshadow the actual OC. 

3. See this one’s a toughy. I’d say put in both, and then use whichever one is more conveniant for the situation she’s in. Maybe for her main bio make it the WW2 uniform, but make sure you specigy that, and if you’d like, include her modern day one later on as well, just to make things clear.

For my fake country oc I want one to be near the uk but colonized another fake oc near Italy Is there a way to make it work or is there another way for her to have control of it

I think this could work.  I would say that the nation by Italy would have to be very strong to keep the UK away from the other nation (assuming this is taking place during the 1500s-early 1900s).  There would definitely need to be a powerful navy presence from the nation near Italy by the nation in the same area as the UK, since the UK was known for its navy.  

Perhaps let there be a treaty between England and the nation near Italy that states that England can’t take the nation near him?  Otherwise, I would say you could keep your OC in the same region as the UK,  and make the other nation a little bit closer.  Perhaps by France or Spain?

Also, even though her Uzbekistan has more description in her profile she's still pretty bad. I mean, she has GREEN hair and is WHITEWASHED. Oh and, her Turkmenistan OC wants to marry Uzbekistan for some reason... (basically Belarus but with a dick) and they're siblings...

Hi there. I have a CSA OC, and I'm having trouble with his name. His current name is Winston, but I don't think it's very accurate. A couple I've taken into consideration are Beau and Connor. Do you have any suggestions? Sorry to bother you, dear. uvu

No bother at all!

I’m assuming by CSA you are referring to the Confederate States of America. I really like the name Beau, and it is a popular name in the south, so that would be appropriate. Biblical names would be appropriate as well, considering that the south is known as the “Bible Belt”.  As for Connor and Winston, I’m not too sure about.

OC Review - Madagascar

Hudson here!  Sorry I haven’t reviewd anything in a while,  I’ve been adjusting to my new school and summer was surprisngly crazy.  Anyways, this OC was submitted a while ago and I have decided to review it!

Representing Country/City: Madagascar Human Name: Brandie Nicknames: Brand 

Brandy, or in this case, Brandie, is a Dutch name from the word that means burnt wine.  There are plenty of Malagasy names that are far more appropriate.

Gender: Female. Age: 16 Birthday: December 1, 1999 

1) Someone born on December 1, 1999 would be 15 as of the day I’m reviewing this.

2) I hope 16 is their age of appearance and not their actual age.

3) June 26th is Madagascar’s Independence Day, which would be far more fitting date as a birthday.  

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Personality: Brandie is kinda of shy and sometimes talk, she always help other if they need her help and Brandie is always making everyone happy, sometimes she feels she not beautiful. 

This personality is rather bland.  I feel like any character in a YA book could have this personality, which isn’t a good thing.  Her only “flaws” are that she is shy and sometimes doesn’t feel attractive.  

Hobbies: drawing Manga, singing

Why do OC creators insist that their non-Japanese characters enjoy manga?  If the country is a large consumer of manga and anime, fair enough, but I doubt Madagascar is filled with fans of Attack on Titan and Free!

Likes: Lemurs, reading Manga, watching anime, helping animals/people Dislikes: being made fun of, doesn't like fighting, letting everyone down Fears: everyone hating her, not able to be a country anymore, ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

Lemurs, because they’re found in the country is okay.  As for everything else, not so much.  I already went over the manga/anime one, and the rest of them are bland and characteristics of most people.  Nobody likes being made fun of and most people fear of being hated.  Those are just normal, human things!

Also, shouldn’t her likes, dislikes, and fears have something to do with her nation? Why yes, yes they should.  Do they? Of course not.

The height is actually fairly accurate, but I don’t know whether that is because of research of coincidence.

I’m assuming the creator is using pounds, and if so, this means that her character is obese.  And as of 2008, only 1.6 of the population in Madagascar was obese, so...

There was no picture attatched to the review, so I’m just going to pray to God that she isn’t whitewashed to hell.  Also, you should probably include a military or formal uniform in appearance.
