Hello everyone! I am a cosplayer/commissioner located in central Alberta. I work in a hotel and as I was pre-assigning rooms in the morning, I came across a reservation that had a special request (as they often do). “DRAW A PICTURE OF A DUCK AND LEAVE IT ON THE BED :)” Is what it said.

“Challenge accepted!” Is what I said. So I printed off a picture of a duck and traced it because I can’t even draw a stick man, and I left him a nice little note along with the picture. I wish more people asked for weird stuff like this. It was the most fun I had had at work in a long time.

Oh god not only did I have to watch something like this, I also had to write an ESSAY ON IT *headdesk* I almost failed because I basically just said it was stupid and full of lies.

HELP SAVE PENNY

Please forgive me if I’m a little raw; this development is still only hours in the making, and it’s been a scary, sleepless night.

The little collie you see keeping me company here is Penny. She just turned four, gives high fives, kisses and hugs, loves stealing socks, and has been with me through thick and thin in the four most tumultuous years of my life. Last night around 5 p.m. she was rushed to the pet ER for an emergency blood transfusion. For reasons the vets can’t determine without extensive testing, her immune system is attacking her red blood cells. At the time of the four-hour-long transfusion (which is just now wrapping up at 5:30 a.m), they were basically depleted…and unless the vet can figure out why her immune system is basically backfiring, that’s where she’ll be again soon. Only this time, we may not be able to help.

This morning she’ll come home and rest; tomorrow she’ll go back in for another red blood cell count and we’ll be faced with our options. While the blood transfusion wasn’t cheap - 1100 paid out of pocket - it was mostly a delaying tactic. The vet needs me to sign off on up to 4900 additional dollars, which I don’t have, to really do any more. I’ve lain awake, eaten up and dreading the thought of there being a way to help Penny but watching her die because I couldn’t afford it. I don’t know if I’ll be able to raise enough soon enough to make a difference, but doing something feels better than waiting for the worst to happen.

Part of me balks from posting this because I know there are bigger causes out there. But for anyone who’s ever had a fur baby/best animal friend, you how it hurts - how awful it is that they can’t understand what’s happening to them, and you can’t explain it. I thought I’d have years left with Penny…and I still hope to. Anything you can give helps. Thank you from the bottom of my heart for even taking the time to read this. <3
