I feel like Oikawa would think Hinata and Kageyama are together and it would make him mad and he wouldn't even know why. (It's cause he loves kageyama but is in denial) ((could u do a 5+1 for this please))
I got this ask like a year ago but I was really feeling it so⊠better late than never? iâm so sorry i suck at doing things on time
But yeah, here you go
1.
Tooruâs life is a fucking joke soreally, it shouldnât come as a surprise that the one weekend heâshome instead of in Tokyo doing assignments for class or practicingwith his new team, he ends up running into Tobio. Tooru considerspretending he didnât see him but no, there goes that plan as Tobioapproaches him, eyes lighting up.
âOikawa-san,âhe greets, looking disgustingly cute as always.
âTobio,âhe sighs. âHow unexpected to run into you.â
âIlive here,â Tobio says, furrowing his eyebrows, and Tooru isweirdly relieved he hasnât changed at all when it comes tocompletely missing social cues because, honestly, thatâs very Tobioof him.Â
(Tooru pointedly avoids thinking about whythatâsa relief and whenexactlyhe started using Tobioâs name as an adjective.)
âIfyouâre going to ask me to teach you how to serveâŠâ Tooru trailsoff, shaking his head. Tobioâspestering iseerily similar to Ushijimaâs youshouldâve come to Shiratorizawa andTooru wonders how many puppies heâs kicked in his past life todeserve this.Mustâve been a lot.
âIâmnot,â Tobio says and Tooruâs interest is piqued. âI was justwondering if youâd be coming to watch the Inter-High.â
What a strange question, Toorumuses.
He will, probably, if nothingelse to see how the new Aoba Johsai team is doing and give them a fewpointers, but to Tobio he says, âMaybe. Why, do you want me tocome watch you play?â
Heâs just teasing, of coursehe is, but Tobio, that simpleton, actually nods.
âKarasunoâsstrong, even without the third-years.â
Tooru stares at himhelplessly. Itâs hopeless. Tobioâs hopeless. Unfairly adorablebut utterly hopeless.
Beforehe can give any sort of reply though (and what canhesay, really) Tobioâs phone rings. He takes one look at the callerand throws Tooru an apologetic look â or as close to one as he canâ before answering.
âYamayama-kun,are you dead?!â
Tooru can hear the otherperson loud and clear, and Tobioâs eyes narrow.
âHinata,dumbass, donât yell!â
Hinata. The other half of the famous duo, Tooru thinks somewhat annoyed. Itâsnot that he dislikes the shrimp (he doesnât mind the shrimp, mostof the time). Itâs just that the two of them are so goddamnannoying with their âunique connectionâ and the whole âas longas Iâm here, youâre invincibleâ â honestly, how cheesy anddisgusting is that.
Andsuddenly, with Tobio bickering with the shrimp (like an old marriedcouple, Tooruâs mind supplies rather annoyingly) in the background, a realizationhits him like a train.
The brats are totally dating.
Tooruâs nose scrunches indistaste. How⊠off-putting.
But it does make sense, nowthat he thinks about it.
All the name calling thatalways lacks bite, the constant teasing and bickering, thatâsprobably their way of flirting, those idiots. But Tooru canâtdisregard the trust they have in one another or the factthat they really do bring out the best in each other. So he supposeshe should at least acknowledge that theyâre good together.
The thought leaves a bittertaste in his mouth.
âOikawa-san?âTobio calls, phone back in his pocket. âI have to go now butâŠthink about it, okay?â
Tooruâs eyebrow quirks up.
âWhythe hurry?â
Tobio seems surprised by hisquestion but otherwise doesnât react as he shrugs.
âHinataâslocked himself out of his house. The idiot wants to come over untilhis mom gets back.â
Tooru kind of regrets askingbecause thatâs way too annoying for him to deal with right now.
âHavefun then,â he throwsTobio the smile Iwa-chan has dubbed as his âfake Trashykawa smileâand Tobio frowns at him. âRemember, donât do anything I wouldnâtdo, Tobio-chan.â
Once again Tobio looksconfused, Tooruâs teasing flying right over his head.
âYoumean⊠I shouldnât teach him to serve?â He snorts and itâs allkinds of adorable. (Tooru really hates himself right now.) âDonâtworry, Oikawa-san, the dumbass can barely serve as it is, it wouldnâtso him any good to try the jump serve.â
Tooru lets out a breathy laughbefore he can stop himself.
âWhateveryou say, Tobio.â
For once Tobio isnâtfrowning and scowling. Heâs still cute but in a slightly differentway, and Tooru doesnât even bother acknowledging that thought.
âShouldnâtyou be going already?â
He watches as Tobioâs eyeswiden and the scowl returns with full force.
âRight.âHe hesitates for a second. âSee you around, Oikawa-san.â
Notif I can help it,Tooru thinks but what he ends up saying is, âYeah.â
Tobioturns around, headed towards his boyfriend, and Tooru is left staringat his back.
Ifthatâs some kind of metaphor,Tooru thinks, itsucks.
2.
Okay so maybe his life reallyis a joke but the thing is, most of the time Tooru himself is the onedelivering the punchline.
âDonâtsay anything, Iwa-chan,â he sighs as Iwaizumi takes a seat in the stands next to him. Down on the court, Karasuno scores anotherpoint.
âWasnâtgoing to,â Iwa-chan, bless him, says and joins him in watching thegame in silence.
Tobiowas right, Karasuno isgood.
Thereâsonly one first year on the team - a lanky boy with way too much hair - and he quickly proves why heâs part of the starting lineup as hejoins Glasses in blocking. He reminds Tooru of that redhead fromShiratorizawa with his guess blocking, and he immediately decides hedoesnât like him. Which, yeah, itâs a little petty but Tooruisnât really running for a saint anyway.
The defense isnât the onlything thatâs improved though. Karasunoâs offense is brutal.
Toorufinds himself paying even more attention to Tobio and the differenttosses he gives the different spikers. He keeps evolving, just likeTooru always knew he would, and itâs just as fascinating to watchas it is scary.Â
Tobio truly is incredible.
âKageyamaâsreally changed, huhâ Iwaizumi says and Tooru hums, neither agreeingnor disagreeing. âKarasunoâs good for him.â
Notjust Karasuno, Tooruthinks with a scowl as the shrimp joins Tobio on the court.
It doesnât take long beforethey do their signature quick and Iwaizumi lets out a short huff.
âThiswonât ever stop being weird,â he says and Tooru has to agree.
The shrimp is still jumpingaround, high-fiving his teammates, but when he reaches Tobio, he justgrins at him. Itâs all sunshine and rainbows, and then Tobio smilesback and they nod at each other and honestly, in any other scenarioTooru would find it cute.
Now, however, heâs justannoyed. Keep your displays of affection to yourselves, thank youvery much.
He doesnât realize heâsscowling until Iwaizumi throws him a look.
âDonâttell me youâre mad Karasunoâs winning?â
Itâs a logical assumption tomake but itâs so far from Tooruâs current train of thought thathe almost laughs out loud at the irony.
Insteadhe just waves a hand dismissively.
âIdonât care if they win, Iwa-chan, Iâmnot thatpetty.â
Exceptyeah, he is, and they both know that.
He keeps watching the courtwhere the other team finally manages to score but he can feelIwaizumiâs eyes on him. Then he hears him sigh.
âSometimesI honestly have no idea what youâre thinking,â he admits andTooru snorts.
âItâsnothing, Iwa-chan, I promise.â To illustrate his words, he nudgesIwaizumi until he bats his hand away.
âQuitbeing annoying, Trashykawa.â
Tooru laughs, retreating hishand. Messing with Iwa-chan is definitely one of his favoritepastimes.
Karasuno takes their firsttimeout and Tooru uses the opportunity to get a good look on all ofthem. And okay, if his gaze keeps slipping back to Tobio then thatâssimply a coincidence; heâs standing right in Tooruâs line ofsight so itâs only natural Tooruâs eyes stay on him, right?
Then again, maybe he shouldlook away because the shrimp is all over Tobio and thatâs justdisgusting.
So maybe, he concedes after amoment, maybe âall over Tobioâ is an exaggeration but still. Theshrimp is bouncing around, talking to him excitedly and gesturing sorapidly Tooru has trouble following him but Tobio is just noddingalong. And he probably really does understand him because theyâreboth weird like that.
Except with Tobio thatweirdness is cute while with the shrimp itâs plain annoying.
âStop glaring at Kageyama, for fuckâs sake,â Iwaizumi says, exasperated. Tooru is almostoffended.
âI wasnât,â he says andhuffs at Iwaizumiâs look. âI mean, I wasnât glaring at him.â
Iwaizumi looks confused andhonestly, Tooru can relate.
âItâs justâŠâ he trailsoff, sneaking one more glance at the duo. âLook at them, Iwa-chan.â
Iwaizumi follows his gaze andwatches as Tobio nudges the shrimp, pointing at one of theiropponents, before leaning in to whisper something in his ear. Toorulooks at Iwaizumi expectantly.
âUh,â Iwa-chan rubs theback of his neck. âThey seem to be getting along?â
âExactly,â Tooru nods, arms still crossed. âIsnât it disgusting?â
Iwaizumi takes one long lookat him, one thatâs a bit too inquisitive for Tooruâs liking.
âOh,â he ends up sayingbefore letting out a short laugh. âYou had me worried there for asecond, Shittykawa.â
Now itâs Tooruâs turn tostare.
âWhat do you mean, oh?â
Iwa-chan looks way too amusedas he shakes his head, âYouâll get it eventually.â
âJust tell me, Iwa-chan,come on.â
âQuiet down, the gameâsstarting,â Iwaizumi is saying, looking distinctively smug and Toorujust rolls his eyes. He needs new friends.
3.
Itâs another few weeksbefore he sees Tobio again.
âI heard you made it to thenational team,â Tooru remarks as the two of them walk alongsideeach other. âCongratulations.â
A small smile immediatelyappears on Tobioâs lips and oh, Tooru was not prepared for this.Heâs accustomed to Tobioâs usual cuteness but now itâs strikeshim that not only that but Tobio is also handsome as hell. Well shit,Tooru thinks. Paint him purple and call him Shiratorizawa.
âThanks,â Tobio says andTooru can tell heâs trying to hide how proud he is. He rolls hiseyes.
âYou were recruited for thenational team, Tobio, you didnât make cereal or something. Youâreallowed to be proud.â
Tobio looks at him from thecorner of his eye, as if trying to judge whether or not heâs beingserious. Tooru just stares at him, expectant, until Tobio caves.
âItâs amazing,â headmits. âEveryone is very talented.â
âYou met some them at thetraining camp last year, right?â Tooru prompts and Tobio nods.
âBut I have to admit, I wassurprised some of the others I met didnât make it. They were verygood too.â
Tooru looks up, noting howthere isnât a single cloud in the sky.
âThatâs how it is at thetop,â he says. âThe best of the best.â
He can feel Tobio watching him as he speaks and decides thatâs enough of that.
âAnyway, howâs theshrimp?â
Tooru, despite the teasingtone, is actually curious. He imagines Tobio making it on thenational team could cause some friction there and hey, if they end up breaking up, well then thatâs just how life is. Tooru tries notto hope too much.
âHinata?â Tobio shrugs.âFine, I guess. His receives are better.â
Tooru snorts, shaking hishead. Good old Tobio.
âIâm not asking about howheâs doing at volleyball, Tobio. Iâm askingâŠâ Tooruâs nosescrunches briefly, âIâm asking how things are going between youtwo.â
Tobio appears to be confused, whether at Tooruâs unusual curiosity or the question itself, but heshrugs once again.
âWeâre okay? I mean, wehavenât fought in a while so thatâs⊠good.â
âGood,â Tooru echoes.Fucking great, even. He sighs.
A silence descends upon them.Surprisingly, it doesnât feel uncomfortable.
Tooru looks at the trees theypass as he tries to sort his thoughts. He doesnât know how heended up taking a walk with Tobio of all people but he doesnât mindand when did that happen.
He glances at Tobio. Tooru hasto admit heâs not all that bad. In fact, heâs actually prettynice to be around. And yeah, okay, itâs fun to tease him too.
âOikawa-san. Youâre makinga weird expression.â
Yeah, no, he takes that back; Tobio is a brat.
âSo rude, Tobio-chan,â hedrawls, watching as Tobio lowers his head in an attempt to hide hissmile. A cute brat, if nothing else. âSay, what are you doing thisSaturday?â
The words are out of his mouthbefore he can help them.
âEr,â Tobio looks assurprised as Tooru feels. âNothing much I guess. Iâll justpractice and then hang out with Hinata.â
Tooruâs mood soursimmediately. Of course heâd have plans with his boyfriend. Whywouldnât he.Â
Thatâs what Tooru gets for trying to be nice.
âWell. Forget I saidanything.â
Tobio looks like he wants tosay something himself but apparently decides to stay silent. Tooru isnâtsure if heâs glad or not because this time around the silence issuffocating.Â
He can see Tobio fidgeting.
âThe, uh, the weather seemsnice,â Tobio mumbles, looking anywhere but at Tooru who blinks athim a couple of times before bursting out laughing.
Tobioâs so damn cute.
âNevermind,â he frowns andTooru wheezes in an attempt to stop laughing.
âNo, no, Tobio-chan, thatwas good,â he says, grinning widely. âSmall talk, thatâs good.â
Tobio rolls his eyes but helooks amused. Tooru decides thatâs a good sign.
âIt is very niceweather weâre having,â he nods. âI especially like howthe sun is nowhere to be seen. Fascinating, isnât it?â
Tobioâs frown melts into apout which is, of course, adorable. Tooru is pretty sure hisvocabulary wasnât this poor before Tobio.
âNow youâre making fun ofme,â Tobio says and Tooru shakes his head.
âI would never.â
Tobio snorts, elbow softlynudging him, and suddenly Tooru realizes a couple of things.
1) He may have a small, tiny, almost nonexistent crush on Tobio, who 2) is incredibly adorable andcute and more, and 3) has a boyfriend, which of course leads to 4)Tooru is screwed.
4.
âIwa-chan, I need help.â
Tooru absentmindedly wondershow many times heâs called Iwaizumi starting with this exact samesentence.
âItâs 2am,â Iwaizumisays groggily. âThis better be life or death, Oikawa.â
Tooru groans, âIt is.â
Thereâs a pause on the otherend and he can hear some shuffling. He feels bad about wakingIwaizumi but heâs been thinking about his new revelations forhours and he still canât wrap his head around it. Itâs maddening.
âOkay, Iâm listening,âIwaizumi says, much more awake, in a sort of business-mode that makesTooru chuckle. Then he remembers his life is hell and stopschuckling.
âSo,â he starts, wonderingexactly how to say it. Apparently words are not his friend when itcomes to Tobio. âYou remember Tobio.â
âI do.â
Iwaizumi is beinguncharacteristically patient with him, for which Tooruâs grateful.Â
(Thatâs a lie, though, Iwa-chan is only impatient when heâsmessing around, never when he truly needs him. Iwa-chan is great.)
âWell. I⊠may have somefeelings for him. That are not hate or envy.â
Iwaizumi sighs, both in reliefand exasperation. âI figured.â
Normally, Tooru would ask howand probably panic about being too obvious. But itâs Iwa-chan anditâs Tobio and really, he just wants to know what the hellheâs supposed to do right now.
Iwaizumi pauses, thoughtful, when Tooru asks him.
âYou could⊠ask him out?âhe suggests as if itâs that easy. Tooru wishes it was.
âHeâll say no,â he saysimmediately, heart clenching uncomfortably. Somehow knowing hedoesnât even have a chance makes it so much worse.
âYou donât know that.â
âI do,â he sighs, resigned. âHeâs dating that #10. Hinata. Heâll say no.â
âOh.â Iwaizumi pauses andTooru can imagine the exact expression heâs wearing. It makes himfeel better, just a little bit but then again, Iwa-chanâs alwayshad a knack for doing that. âIâm sorry.â
âYeah. Me too,â Toorusays. âItâs ironic, isnât it. I was so mean to him in middleschool. And,â he frowns, âhigh school, I guess.â
He sighs once again becausekarma sucks.
âYou definitely werenâtthe best,â Iwaizumi says and Tooru can tell heâs being delicate.âBut I donât think Kageyama holds a grudge.â
Tooru knows he doesnât. Thatmakes it even worse and wow, look how everything is spiraling down.Honestly, fuck his life.
âIâll be a better personfrom now on,â he says out loud to lighten the mood, onlyhalf-joking. âIâll start feeding stray cats. Practically asaint.â
Iwaizumi snorts.
âYou wouldnât last aweek.â Tooru smiles as he plops down on his bed. âBut really, will you be fine?â
âOf course.â
Thereâs a pause.
âWeâre watching E.T. thisweekend,â Iwaizumi says, his tone leaving no room for argument.
âAnd eating milk bread?â
âAnd eating milk bread.â
Tooru laughs, agreeing, and hethinks about how lucky he is to have Iwa-chan.Â
He tells him as much.
âIdiot,â Iwa-chan says andTooru can hear the fondness in his voice loud and clear. âSomeoneâsgotta remind you not to be too hard on yourself. Youâre a prettygreat guy, Tooru, you hear me? Donât let it get you down.â
Tooru swallows. âYeah.â
âNow get some rest. You needit.â
âYeah,â Tooru echoes.âLove you, Iwa-chan.â
âYou too.â
Maybe his life isnâtentirely shitty.
5.
A week later and Tooru findshimself woken up by loud pounding on his door. Groaning loudly, hemakes his way to the door, pausing just before opening it.
He does not, in fact, wake upflawless. But itâs a Sunday, and itâsâ 7am, what the fuck? Okay,no, whoever has the audacity to wake him up at this hour deservesseeing him looking like a mess.
When he does open the door hehas to pinch himself to make sure heâs not dreaming because thereis no way the shrimp is standing on his doorstep.Â
Except, he is.
âNo,â Tooru says and slamsthe door shut. He turns around with every intention of going back tosleep. He is so not dealing with this right now, whatever thiseven is.
The pounding returns and goodgod, has this kid not heard of a doorbell? Tobioâs taste ishorrible, really, and thatâs a small relief at least.
âI wonât go away until youlet me in,â the shrimp calls and proceeds to add, âI think your neighbors are gettingcurious.â
Tooru grits his teeth. Thatbrat.
Tooru is well-liked by hisneighbors, thank you very much, and heâd like to keep it that way.Maybe the shrimp is a little bit smarter than he thought. Whatever.
âFine,â he says when he opens the door again, crossinghis arms, not intentionally trying to look down on the shrimp buthey. It happens. âSpeak.â
The kid is grinning as if heâswon, and Tooru is frowning, as if heâs not.
âCan I come in?â
âI donât know, can you,âTooru mumbles but moves aside to let him pass nonetheless.
They end up in the livingroom, the shrimp making himself comfortable on the couch.
âSo?â Tooru tilts his headin a way heâs been told looks vaguely threatening. âWhat do youwant, Shrimpy-chan?â
The kid squints his eyes athim as if evaluating him. After a moment he leans back, all traces ofhis grin gone.
âYouâve been avoidingKageyama.â
Tooru tries not to let hissurprise show.
âSo?â
The shrimp narrows his eyesand somehow he looks like a completely different person when heâsserious.
âListen, I donât know knowwhat your deal is, but if youâre just acting like this because ofhis feelings then youâre really a shitty person.â
Tooru scowls because honestly, what kind of person comes to rub their own relationship in anotherpersonâs face. Even he isnât that petty.
âI think you better leave,Shrimpy-chan.â
âI wonât,â the shrimp says not even flinching. âNotuntil I figure out why one second youâre flirting with Kageyama andpretending you donât know him the next.â
Tooru throws him an indignantlook. âWhat?â
âYouâve been flirting,right?â
Tooru is so flabbergasted that hejust ends up saying, âYes?â
The shrimp jumps off his couchgesturing animatedly.
âThen why the hell arenâtyou dating him?â
Everything kind of stops forTooru.
âWhat?â
âIf you like him,â theshrimp says slowly, âand he likes you, then why arenât you twodating?â
Tooru blinks at him whiletrying to comprehend what he just heard.
âYou mean⊠you two arenâtdating?â
He tries to think back on anyparticularly affectionate moment or a confirmation from either one ofthem but his mind draws blank.
âWhat?â The loud shriekmakes him wince. âOf course not! Why would you even think that!â
Tooru takes a deep breath.
âSo I like Tobio,â hestarts slowly, âand Tobio apparently likes me too. And heâs notdating you?â he turns to the shrimp. âHeâs not dating anyone?â
The shrimp shakes his head.
âHeâs been waiting for youto ask.â
And thatâs how Tooru findshimself on the next train to Miyagi, the shrimp â or, okay, Hinata, right next to him.
0.
He intercepts Tobio on hismorning run.
âOikawa-san,â he exclaims, surprised, but Tooru is so not in the mood for small talk.
He approaches Tobio, slowly, surely, despite his heart beating rapidly in his chest.
âI like you,â he saysstaring right into Tobioâs eyes so that he knows Tooruâs notmessing around. âI like you a lot. And Iâd also like to date you. If⊠thatâs okay.â
Tooruâs gaze doesnâtfalter as Tobio blinks his big blue eyes at him (and since when doesTobio have blue eyes and why hasnât Tooru noticed before just howvery blue they are?).
His heart is beating so fastand so loud but when Tobio smiles at him, nods, the tips of his earsturning a lovely shade of pink, Tooru is pretty sure his heart stopsaltogether.
âIâd like that too,âTobio says and Tooru lets out a shaky breath.
âOf course you do,â hesays, his whole body relaxing, and takes Tobioâs hand. âIâm acatch.â
Then Tobio is laughing, saying, sure you are, Oikawa-san, and Tooru decides that evenif his life is a fucking joke sometimes, itâs not so bad.
In fact, he thinks later as helistens to Tobio tell him about his latest game, his life is prettygreat.
