How to Analyze a Birth Chart

Hello Friends! I’ve decided to do a simple step-by-step guide on how to analyze Natal Charts. I recommend becoming familiar with the archetypes of the signs, what the planets represent, what each house reveals, and the impact of aspects before you attempt to read a chart. Remember it’s a learning process, so some confusion at first is normal and expected. Hopefully this guide can clear things up a little. I will use my natal chart as a prototype to demonstrate, simply because it is the chart I am most familiar with :)

Step 1: Naming the Planets and the Houses

This may seem silly and redundant- but before you begin to analyze any chart it’s important you name what sign each planet is in which house they can be found. For example, my Mars can be found in my third house, which is ruled by Virgo. Knowing about Mars, Virgo, and the 3rd house, I can infer that my style of communication tends to be direct and analytical. Again, it may seem amateur, but going through each planet and interpreting it at such a basic level will set up a foundation for further analysis.

Step 2: Observing Distribution of Planetary Influences

The first step to interpreting a birth chart is to observe how the planets are dispersed among the 12 houses. People with particularly “full” houses (2 or more) may display that portion of their life more readily and constantly. You can see I have both my sun and mercury in my Gemini-ruled 11th house, which is commonly known as the house of friends. As a result, meeting people, networking, group projects, communication etc. have been a constant theme in my life.

NOTE- Empty houses do NOT mean that that part of your life is “empty”. It is impossible to have a planet in every house. Empty houses are instead predominantly ruled and influenced by their cusp.  

Step 3: Cusps of the Houses

Next step, take a look at the cusps, or rulers, of each of the houses.  Different cusp rulers will affect how the house presents itself in a person’s life. For example, my 5th house, known as the House of Creativity, Fun, Sexuality, and Children, is ruled by Scorpio, which makes my approach to creative pursuits and fun as something that it to be done with much intensity, recklessness, and passion. Imagine how differently someone would interpret fun and creativity with their 5th house ruler in Capricorn- the possibilities are endless.

Step 4: Angular Houses

Now that you’ve gotten a feel for how your houses express themselves- let’s pay particular attention to the Angular houses. The 1st, 4th, 7th, and 10th houses are considered extra influential in a chart, which means the planetary influences in these houses tend to show up clearer in our lives- some astrologers even consider these planets to have “extra strength”. I have an Aries Saturn in my 10th house, which has made me ruthlessly committed to my career and work goals. Even though my Sun is in Gemini, which stereotypically should make me flighty, my Saturn Aries is strongly placed it overrules my flightiness when it comes to goals and work ethic.

Step 5: Aspects

With an understanding of the different ‘houses’ of our life, and how our different planets express themselves, we can now move on to how all of it relates with each other. Aspects. Aspects reveal to us how our planets work together, whether it is in harmony or in conflict. For example, I have my Gemini Sun (11th house) sextile my Leo moon (2nd house) and from this I can imply that my personality is balanced between its drive and its emotions. If I analyze deeper I could say since the sextile is between the 2nd and 11th house, I gain a natural sense of fulfillment and security when I am providing for my friends, or vice-versa. The possibilities are endless and take a lot of intuitive, critical thinking.

NOTE- the basic aspects (trine, sextile, conjunction, opposition, square) can come together to form a LARGER aspect such as a T-square or a Grand trine. These aspects are the MOST influential and should be given the MOST attention when looking at a chart. You can see I have a Grand trine between Mercury, Mars, and Neptune.

Final Step: Interpreting As a Whole

I’ve just skimmed the surface of what chart analysis offers. The more you delve into a chart, the more information will be revealed to you. My greatest piece of advice is: Use your intuition. Trust your intuition. No one is simply a “Cancer sun sign” or a “Leo Ascendant”, every person has largely unique personalities with endless layers. The more you understand this concept, the more you can pull away from strict stereotypes and start to understand people as individuals.

✨ Types of Soulmates ✨

Hi everyone! When doing love readings for people, I tend to always mention the word ‘soulmate’ which is why I thought I’d actually make a post about the topic. The term can be a bit confusing due to the various connotations that it’s accumulated over time. Most people imagine that meeting their soulmate will unfold like a fairytale and instantly lead to happily ever after! But this isn’t always the case! You’ll meet several different soulmates in your lifetime, all of them serving different purposes. Soooo let’s get into this shit! (starting in no particular order!)

1. Platonic Soulmate: The platonic soulmate will manifest as your best friend and partner in crime! There’s a sense of effortlessness when you two meet. There’s no hesitation and you feel a sense of ease when you’re around. Your platonic soulmate is the person you know was destined to be your Maid of Honor or Best Man haha. The platonic soulmate is usually the simplest out of all the connections as they exist in your path to make life more enjoyable. Some people may mistake a platonic soulmate for a romantic/companion soulmate but they’ll usually both realize that they’re better off as friends. Someone who is asexual or aromantic will likely stay with their platonic soulmate as they don’t feel the need to connect with anyone else. This can be extremely fulfilling! 

2. Soul Family: Ahhhh soul families are a total fucking blessing! Members of a soul family all come from the same branch of consciousness and have similar life paths. Soul families can be literally anyone who has the same interests, beliefs, mindset, and energetic vibration as you! The key aspect of a soul family is that our souls were created in the same dimension/planet and we always incarnate together. Our soul family has travelled the same paths and have had to learn the same lessons. All members of a soul family are working towards the same mission. I say they’re a blessing because I find it extremely comforting to know that you have other people who feel and think in the same way that you do! Your actual family may be a part of your soul family but not always. There are definitely members of your soul family who you may not actually ever meet. Some soul groups have 2,000 people while others have 20. It simply depends on your mission! 

3. Past Life Soulmate: Our past life soulmate(s) are usually romantic and they’re someone who is returning from a past life. When you feel as though you instantly recognize someone, this is a clear sign that they’re a past life connection. Your past life soulmate can reincarnate with you every life time or only occasionally. Either way, this person is usually in your life to remind you of something you’ve forgotten about your own soul. They subconsciously bring back information from a past life in order to deepen your spirituality. This could be a long term or short term relationship! Past life soulmates are a part of your soul family!

4. Karmic Soulmates: Ohhh the lovely karmics… Karmic Soulmates are like fucked up past life soulmates. They’re from your past life but they show up in this life because there’s an unlearned lesson or unsettled business between you two. This karmic imbalance desperately needs to be resolved before you can progress. To be fair, karmics don’t always have to be horrible! They serve a very important purpose though. I’d even go as far as to say that they’re the most necessary. They present challenges and conflicts in order to make you stronger. Your first heartbreaks are usually a result of karmic relationships. They’re kind of like stepping stones to your twin flame or romantic soulmate! Karmics are almost always temporary and can be friends, family, or lovers.

5. Healing Soulmate: Healing soulmates usually emerge after a karmic relationship ends. Or after a defeating period in your life. They can come in the form of a friend, a parent, a teacher, a lover, or even a stranger. They offer you comfort and help set you back on your path. Healing soulmates are usually temporary as they mostly exist in our lives for a specific issues. Some healing soulmates may stick around and assist you with future conflict as well, though! 

6. New Soul: This one is pretty straight forward! Not everyone you meet will be from a past life. A new soul is someone we’ve never had contact with. They usually show upwhen we’ve completed all karmic trials or, for whatever reason, have rejected the romantic soulmate/twin flame partner. This person will spark intrigue, curiosity, and fascination in you. We’ll crave a connection with this person but things usually happen slower with a new soul because of the unfamiliarity. Most karmic relationships start off as a new soul that wasn’t originally in our Soul Contract. Which can be vv exciting! 

7. Romantic/Companion Soulmate:  Your romantic soulmate is often described as ‘The One’! They’re your perfect match in this lifetime and the person that your higher self decided to unite with. Of course, you can always stray from your soul contract but most people don’t! The romantic soulmate will offer you so much joy, happiness, and emotional depth. They’re the person you’re likely to marry and will help to move you along your path with an open heart. When we unite with a companion soulmate, we experience unconditional love and bliss. Every relationship will still have it’s problems but you’ll be able to work through these things in harmony. The romantic soulmate can be a new soul or past life connection!

8. The Twin Flame: Not everyone has a twin flame in this lifetime or a twin flame at all! But your twin flame is the perfect REFLECTION of you. You two are parts of the same consciousness. It’s still possible to be whole without your twin flame but, when you two come together, it creates something incredibly powerful. Keep in mind that you might have multiple types of each soulmate in your life & that’s okay! Alternatively, you might not have one of these relationships. The 2nd House + Self Worth

Aries in the 2nd House: Praise and proving themselves may be very important to their self-worth. Proving themselves might not always come in the form of trying to impress others, it could come in the form of overcoming fears or challenges. Can fall into relying on competition or “winning” as a main source of worth. May feel like if they ask for help or are used then their worth is lessened somehow. Leading others, exerting their energy, and displaying vigor or enthusiasm is what gives life to their self esteem in the material world.

Taurus in the 2nd House: This person’s self-worth is very much dependent on the physical realm. This could fall into materialism with items, jewelry, clothing, or wealth. It could be materialism in a distinctive style or it could come in their creature comforts and possibly luxury. Getting rewarded for their hard work is key, this can be in a job, talent, or relationship. After putting in 100% and not getting what they want in return can be incredibly detrimental. Leo in the 2nd House: Their ability to be strong and self-reliant are what creates their self-worth. This person needs to be able to prove that they are stable, secure, and confident without any exterior help. While being single or alone can feel like poison, it really is better for them to be alone instead of around bad company or in a toxic relationship. Self love will be a process for them. Sagittarius in the 2nd House: Their knowledge, goals, and experiences all build up self-worth. There is a lot of room for interpretation here. Attempting to reach large goals gives them a boost in esteem. They want to standout in the workplace or among friends.  When it comes to the physical realm or ambition things are wrapped in the mind and intellectualism. They might rely a lot on their knowledge or representation of intellect for self-worth. In the physical realm they can be hard to satisfy or understand due to unconventional views and material wants/needs. Self-expression can be highly helpful to building and maintaining worth.

Capricorn and Aquarius in the 2nd House both can have issues with self worth when young due to connections to Saturn. Capricorn is more in self assertion and Aquarius in identity.

Pisces in the 2nd House: It’s all about love when it comes to self-worth. Because this is the 2nd House this person needs physical or obvious proof of love from others. Gifts, affection, and words are needed. This person probably doesn’t want to survive just off reliability, providing, or responsibility. Natal Sun Sextile Aspects

Sun Sextile Moon: The Sun and Moon work together here. One’s personality and emotions are in balance. This creates a person who is confident in themselves and in their emotions. People might quickly or easily recognize this in someone and be attracted to them or look up to them. There are many Sun/Moon combinations and this persons’ “flavor” can vary but no matter their ego and emotional self, they are firm in who they are. Conflicts to their identity and emotions however can throw them off or cause a lot of frustration/anger.

Sun Sextile Mars: This is an energetic, confident, and go-getter person who knows how to balance their ego with their drive. They can be confident about their ambitions and physical side. This person has a lot of self respect and authority overall. At times cautiousness or seriousness can hold this person back. Also immaturity is met with a lot of struggles when they are young/learning. They really experience the consequences for their immaturity in life.

Sun Sextile Uranus: Ones values likely align with things Uranus stands for such as tolerance, progressive thinking, high value of intellect and logic, equality, honesty, and fairness. This person is firm and fixed in their values and will stand up for them. The Sun can also take on a desire for change, the unusual, and the unpredictable. Uranus’s liberating themes can be given to the Sun.

Sun Sextile Neptune: Creativity, imagination, and intuition can be given to the Sun. Most of all this person has a desire to help others or even sacrifice for them. Even if the Sun is in Fire/Air there is a caring element to them. With Fire/Air Sun they might care and give in a more “masculine/action-taking” way. The Sun’s ego at times has the ability to keep their giving side in check. Here we see a balance between the light of the Sun and the warm, changing waters of Neptune.

Sun Sextile Pluto: The passion, will, intuition, and power of Pluto is given to the Sun to use to go after their goals. This is a person that gives off quite the impression, mostly when they are in the middle of reaching a goal or driving after their ambition. This person can be highly perceptive and investigative. Behind the energy of their Sun is the watchful Pluto. The Sun/identity can keep the darkness of Pluto in check a little bit easier than others.

Sun Sextile Ascendant: The Ascendant and base personality/Sun have harmony. This usually makes a person outgoing and charming. Self-expression is at the center here, they share their personality and views with ease.

Sun Sextile Midheaven: This promises a clear direction when it comes to career and goals! This person knows what they want out of life and will figure out a way to get those wants.

Sun Sextile North Node: There is drive towards goals and lessons learned in the nodes. Whatever the Nodes are pulling on or trying to solve can be reached in this life or reached earlier on. The personality is in tune with what the Nodes are trying to share.

Sun Sextile Chiron: Here we see the vocal or exuberant healer. This is someone who has come to terms with their wounds upfront and they have the ability to inspire others to heal and overcome. At times this can indicate a wound in self-expression, ego, or identity. Through their own confidence and autonomy they were able to overcome this issue.

Sun Sextile Juno: This person is firm in who they are but most of all wants to be loved for who they are. This is usually a positive aspect for attracting people who admire or fall in love with their personality. When a person rejects their identity, usually romantically, this causes a lot of frustration and confusion. Honesty and clear intentions are a must for this person. They show exactly who they are right away in love.

Sun Sextile Ceres: Warmth and giving are at the center of their nurturing and caring style. Overall this is an aspect that has a lot of optimism towards caring for others. Their emotional and supportive gifts are plentiful! *This can indicate a great relationship with one’s father.
