Sometimes I come to terms with how entirely fake everything in our world actually is. We are human. As humans, we obsess over celebrities, which if you sit down and think on it, is actually stupid, even if I do it all too often myself. Celebrities are also human. Just human. Who put them on a pedestal and told the rest of the world to be infatuated by their every move? And to break into the industry of becoming a celebrity, humans that run said industry only want humans that have a certain look. Who created that “ideal” look and why do so many humans desire to live by those standards? We spend each day following the newest TV shows, music, and movies. We spend our lives addicted to pieces of paper that many of us crave more than love. We spend our lives wanting. Wanting more pieces of paper because even if our expectations are met, greed sets into our souls. We are expected to get an education and with that join the workforce so we can get more of this paper. Many take photos of these pieces of paper to brag about their wealth and their ability to spend on the things they want. With these pieces of paper, we get what we want, which is all of this “stuff.” Stuff. Stuff we see through advertisements and become hypnotized by our own desires. Stuff that ultimately shouldn’t matter. The most expensive technology, the highest fashions, makeup, shoes, iPods, iPhones, Androids, laptops, the latest car models, kindles, phone applications, televisions, video games, computer games, home decorating, etc. We read magazines, online articles, watch Youtube tutorials, even scroll through Tumblr and try to learn how to become a “better” us because we believe the lie that there is an ideal human. Even those humans that do not realize they conform to these ideals, do. Myself, included. As they pluck their eyebrows to be a certain shape, as they cut their hair to resemble a particular look, as they put on an outfit that they don’t feel conforms to these high fashions and expresses solely themselves doesn’t truly. Why did you put on the outfit you are wearing today? Even if you don’t think you care about fashion, or didn’t get out of bed and are wearing a pair of pajamas, or some sweatpants? You looked at whatever you are wearing and you liked it for some reason. Why did you look at the outfit that you’re wearing and decide “This is something good to wear”? Who wore it that made you subconsciously decide “I’d like to wear that”? Why do you trust their judgment? We are expected to marry, we are expected to start a family, we are expected to die with our lives fulfilled, but the expectation of life fulfillment is to be successful in the field of your choice and with that possess the “nicest things.” How do these ideas somehow imply success? For what? For who? Who are we trying to impress? Why are we trying to impress them? Who created this standard way of life and why do we keep ourselves inside the lines of that notion? What if there weren’t cities people wished they were rich enough to live in, what if there weren’t cities at all, what if there wasn’t money to love, what if celebrities weren’t celebrities, what if each individual was considered an equal, what if there wasn’t any technology, no magazines, no television shows, no automobiles, no mirrors, no desired way for a human to live out their life? What if there were endless trees of fruit, gardens of vegetables, waterfalls, beaches, plentiful fresh water, and humans weren’t filled with greed? What if we found happiness solely within each other and the simple beauties around us? Imagine if every morning we looked at the dewdrops painting the grass, imagine that we stopped to listen to each bird we heard sing their song, imagine if we didn’t have technology to overrun our entire lives. Imagine instead that we sat beneath the sun and let it radiate across our skin, imagine if we slept by the oceanside, imagine if we hiked daily to see what we could see, imagine if we swam through rivers, imagine if we shared everything, fell in love with the earth, imagine if we didn’t feel the need to stop and take photographs to add to Instagram, imagine if we just lived in each moment and realized how incredibly beautiful life itself is. Imagine if we found as much love within ourselves and the people we know as much as we love celebrities. Remember each day money is only paper, remember each day that there is more to success than getting everything you want and desire, remember each day the “stuff” you want is only stuff, remember each day that you can be so much more than what society wants you to be, remember each day you don’t have to conform to what anyone else says is right, remember each day to give more than you take, remember each day to be kind to people, remember each day to love with all of your heart and to flourish in the earth around you.
