[Image ID: a series of eight tweets by twitter user Kira J (@IamKiraJ). Kira J's message spans the entirety of the eight tweet thread, but have been transcribed as if they were a single message for ease of reading, though with paragraph breaks where the beginning of each tweet would be. The thread reads:
I went over to my homegirl's house the other day so she could braid my hair for me and we could sit back and chop it up. I haven't saw her in a long time with us both having kids and businesses and social distancing. So we were overdue for a girl talk session
She has two kids her son is 7 and her daughter is 1. A nice age gap but still both young and need to be tended to. So in the middle of her braiding baby girl starts fussing. First she's wet then a little time goes by she's hungry.
Keep in mind this is my friend not just someone I'm paying to do my hair so I'm a mom too I'm like girl do what you gotta do I know how this multitasking mommy life go. We really gotta do everything.
So as I'm expecting her to do what mothers gotta do, she picks up the phone and calls their dad who had just left out to the store and asked him to come back and get them so she wouldn't have to be doing too many things at once
He said ok I'm omw and was in the door no later than 10 minutes. He dressed the kids and took them both out so she could finish without interruptions and we could have girl talk without kids ears in the room.
I'm so used to being surrounded by toxic representations of love that I half way expected him to tell her "no he's busy' or for it to lead to an argument like it would have if it was my situation. It's such a different thing when you have a child with someone who works with you.
Once he took the kids out she got finished with my hair and ordered food for him for dinner so he could eat when he got back home since my hair took up a lot of time, she didn't have time to cook him dinner but she was making sure her man ate.
It was at the moment watching them work as a team did I really understand the importance of having a partner in your home. The importance of not just having kids but building a family.
