A hodgepodge of tweeter doodles (2/?)
He set a beer down in front of his friend with a smile. "Not often we get a night off, hm?"
How did Weskham always know just when Clarus needed him? The man was psychic, that was the only explanation.  âThanks,â he said, taking the mug and lifting it to his mouth, draining a quarter in one long gulp. The glass hi the table with a thunk.  âWith Prince-Trouble-Maker? Never a night off. I keep waiting for some guard to burst through that door and tell me heâs been kidnapped, or thrown in jail.â Clarus motioned to the door in question before taking another long drink.  âHowâd you get away?â

WHY?
BECAUSE LIFE IS MISERY AND PAIN

Gladiolus will happily keep his daddy.
Clarus will happily support his son but also regret letting Regis down.

"How about we go out for a bit, what do you say Clarus."
kingxlightâ:
The young King beams as he brings his hands up and rests them on his best friendâs shoulders. âI am glad. Just know, if he does anything, know I have your back okay? And if he tries to hurt you or worse,â green eyes look into the blue, âyou may be my Shield, but I am still your King. And Iâm here for you. We fight together.â
âI know, Reggie.â Clarus lifted a hand to squeeze his friendâs arm.  âWeâre a team.â True as it was, he wasnât going to get the other involved unless he had to.
"How about we go out for a bit, what do you say Clarus."
kingxlightâ:
âMaybe so for some cases, but is this one of those?â Regis looks down and frowns. âYou taught me how to fight, what fighting meant, and why we do it when we do it, and why we donât it when we could. You taught me itâs easy to kill, but you have to be stronger to know when you donât have too. Just trust me on this, I trust you. So please donât do this.â
â.... I wonât kill him,â he promised. Dammit, why did Regis always have to be right?
vitriolicambrosiaâ:
The swing connected with his face, sending Ambrose back and forcing him to let go of Clarusâ throat. He roared as he charged forward at his son, tackling him to the ground. âYou little fuck!â
Heâd known what he was getting into, but his heart still raced with panic as he was tackled. Ambrose wasnât exactly a sane man, and thereâd been a number of times when Clarus thought his father might actually kill him. This was one of those. He summoned his shield to get between them, trying to block any blows and push his father back.
"How about we go out for a bit, what do you say Clarus."
kingxlightâ:
âClarusâŠâ He shifts as he tries to be in his Shieldâs view. âWill it though? Does murder ever feel good?â
Does it ever feel good? No. Murder is always cold, hollow, and as harsh as the bottom of the bottle of vodka he knew heâd end up drowning himself in once everything was done.  âMurder is necessary. Some of us have to get our hands dirty to keep others safe. Iâm one of those people. I was born to be one of those people, Reggie.â
"How about we go out for a bit, what do you say Clarus."
kingxlightâ:
Regis moves to face Clarus. âHe might not while my dad was King, but hurting him or worse, it wonât do you any good either, and I need my Shield, and need my friend. Come on Clarus, you are not thinking clearly. You know what the right thing to do is.â
âDonât patronize me.â Clarus shifted away, gritting his teeth. He hated when Regis was right, mostly because his friend usually was.  âItâd feel good.â
"How about we go out for a bit, what do you say Clarus."
kingxlightâ:
âYouâre a better man then that Clarus, you are just giving him what he wants. Step up, donât go down to his level. PleaseâŠâ
âSo... what? Be the âbigger manâ? Let a man like that just get away with the things heâs done? You know heâs never going to answer for his crimes, Reggie.â
"How about we go out for a bit, what do you say Clarus."
kingxlightâ:
âOf course I know you can take him, but you were the one that told me when to fight and when to not to. That true courage and strength is when making something a fight or let it go.â
âHeâs been kicking me my whole life. I think this is a fight long overdue.â
vitriolicambrosiaâ:
âSo fuckinâ be it.â Ambroseâs hand clasped around the top of Clarusâ neck. Right under his chin. His grip got tighterâŠand tighterâŠâI gave you a fuckinâ choice. Donât act like you donât deserve this.â
If his father wanted him dead, he shouldnât have spent so much time teaching him how to kill. The hand around his neck cut off his airways, but Clarus didnât need air to punch his old man in the face, which is precisely what he did.
"So don't be a victim! But don't, you know, start something with the king's Shield. He outranks you, they're gonna side with him if there's trouble."
âMors can bite my ass too while theyâre at it. The only person I answer to is Regis.â
"Clarus, I'm not scared of your dad or nothin' but, uh, maybe don't?"
âIâm not going to let some piece of shit walk all over me. Iâm done being a victim, Cor.â
