I still wonder what it would be like to kiss you. When we met I was a child playing at being powerful and present. I was closeted and terrified. No real means to protect myself or survive. And you stood in a crowd and commanded everyone. Me most of all. I was so taken. And you entertained me. I was scared and I let you down. And I can’t sleep because I can only think, “what if I’d been brave?” I’m not a coward anymore. Now that oceans separate us and you most likely never think of me. I wish I had been yours at least once. Maybe the darkness that has been my constant companion could consume yours and I’d get to hear you laugh again.
