How I got my Sims 2 game working on my new Windows 11 laptop, step by step.
OKAY. Gadies and Lentlemen.
I have seen plenty of these around, but I wanted to share my process!
So I bought an MSI creator laptop. The specs are as follows:
CPU: 13th gen Intel i7-13700H
RAM: 16 GB DDR5
GPU: NVIDIA GeForce RTX 4050 laptop GPU
Step One: Fresh install. I used the EA App to install the UC version on my new laptop.
Step Two: Download and install RPC launcher. This will automatically apply the 4gb patch. Run as administrator, but not in any kind of compatibility which renders the 4gb patch useless.
Step Three: Download and install Graphics Rule Maker. I used all of the recommended settings, aside from texture memory which I set at 2048 mb for reasons that will become clear later.
Step Five: Setting virtual memory. I used instructions from this post at MTS - My virtual memory paging file is now minimum of 25000 and maximum of 30000. You'll need to adjust to your system's own specs.
Step Six: In game settings. Shadows Off. Neighbours Off. Lighting Medium. RPC Settings. Apply 4GB patch. Automatically Clean Cache. Lot Imposters Optimized. Sim/Object Shadows Classic. I also have lot view ocean reflections ticked.
If your game works like this with no flashing and crashing, awesome. Mine did not. I firstly tried several different texture memory sizes, but they had 0 impact.
I believe the next step is only for NVIDIA cards, but may be wrong.
Step Seven: DXVK. The most recent version from, here. There are plenty of instructions on how to install out there. But make sure you install the 32bit version. I have these two following lines in my DXVK.conf file (and do make sure it is saved as a conf file, NOT a txt or similar).
d3d9.maxAvailableMemory=2048
d3d9.presentInterval=0
The first line corresponds to the texture memory mentioned earlier. DXVK installs won't recognise more than that and having it higher can cause crashes apparently. The second line... No idea what it does but it was mentioned in several guides and reddit posts.
I don't know if the newer versions of DXVK allow fullscreen mode as the older ones did not, but I play in borderless mode anyway which works.
I also delete my thumbnails folder every so often.
I hope this helps someone, this silly old game can be cantankerous but I was determined to get it running again!
I got the bright idea that I was going to try something different.....so I loaded up Sims 3..........and I just can't get into it. I don't like Sims 4 either.
Poppy Strode is my plantsim. She lives alone in a house build just for her. She has a green house out back ready for her garden. She also has some apple trees. She is a family sim and is ready to start her family.
I wanted to do something in Sims 2 that I haven't done before or haven't done that much. I typically play a very normal (according to humans in the US) game. No aliens or abductions, no vampires, no witches, no plantsims, no werewolves, no zombies, etc. I think playing this way has taken my interest from the game. I decorate a hood and add sims and then do nothing with it and make another hood. It's a never ending cycle. I've never had a pet who worked. I've never played a sim from birth to deathâŠâŠ.soâŠâŠâŠ.I created yet another new hood with all the above in it. I have three sisters who are witches. I have a nerdy female who was abducted and I made a mate for her that is an alien. I have a werewolf and a vampire. I also just made an alien coupleâŠ..more on the stories later.
It took me the entire day to reinstall the game on my new computer, to make all the adjustements for it to work on Windows 11, find the right settings with the Graphic Rules Maker, and⊠my game loads twice faster from Windows to neighborhood view, then it loads at least TEN TIMES faster to enter a lot, everything runs so smoothly, even in very heavy CC lots and neighborhoods, with all settings at high, Origin downloading the Sims 4 at the same time, talking to my best friend on Discord, recording a video⊠like⊠IS THIS HEAVEN ?! Iâm about to cry. Tears of joy of course. But still !
I think the next week (or maybe even the next month) will be about enjoying my game and nothing else. Iâm so, so, so happy, you canât even imagine !

Grant âEveryoneâ full control to the TSBin Folder before copying. Otherwise, Windows may lie (đ€„) about copying the d3d9.dll file to the folder. Youâll know you havenât done this if the d3d9.dll file looks like it is there but no log file or cache files are generated.
If âEveryoneâ doesnât appear, press âEditâ and then âAddâ then type in âEveryoneâ, press OK, and âEveryoneâ should appear as an option you can edit the permissions on.
If you did not grant âEveryoneâ access, DXVK really might not work and/or crash.
â ïžIf you had launched the game before granting âEveryoneâ access and after copying the DLL, you will be in a ditch. Get out of the ditch by deleting the â%localappdata%\VirtualStore\Program Files (x86)\EA GAMESâ folder. You can get there by putting that path into Windows File Explorerâs address bar.
That was the only part that was useful to me, but it worth reading it all just in case.

How different are the settings from the ones you used for Windows 10? And do you mind sharing the file number/folder size for your Downloads folder? I havenât been able.to use anywhere near as much cc without the game crashing as I was with Win 7 & 8, which is highly distressing for this cc addict.
I never used Windows 10, I was still using Windows 7 24h ago x)
My Downloads folder size is 8Go. It was 14Go one year earlier, and a very few crashing. I was actually doing all that was possible for my computer to do nothing else than playing the Sims when I wanted to play : no software loading a startup, restarting my computer right before lauching the Sims, defragmenting my drives with O&O Defrag every week, game installed on a SSD⊠that was pretty much it. Then my game started to pinkflash and crash like two months ago, which was a surprise because it was running nicely for years. Anibats video helped a lot (I used the same settings as her). Much less crashes, but still very laggy, because my computer was dying I guess.
Reblogging for reference, too. Iâm also getting a new PC, hopefully sooner rather than later (I know what I want and I have the means, I just need to get my sh⊠act together), so I know Iâll need this eventually.
I have tried to use hoods that other simmers have created and my dinosaur of a computer can't handle it. I do believe that it is because that most of the neighborhoods are too decorated and there is too may houses. I've created my simple hoods and I get bored before I even start adding sims to the hood. The fact that I have and are on medication for severe depression and severe anxiety doesn't help matters either. I am at a loss as to what to do about this...
if ur game takes forever to load, and you have cc & mods set to show at startup, turn that off!! my game used to take ~1 hour to open, now it takes <5 mins!!

EDIT: OMFG! Are you kidding me!?! My game loaded in 2 mins!!!!!
It was taking up to 20 min to load...now it takes 2!!!

Welcome to Riverdale. It is an empty hood for the moment but later after my grocery delivery sims will start moving in. The terrain/hood is from Dellesims.
So I see that everyone is putting their sims goals for 2023 out there. I love reading everyone's goals. I am going to put mine out there for my 6 followers....LOL.
I hope to accomplish:
Organizing my game; I am working on making wall collections right now.
I want to actually play more often; I tend to have ADD when it comes to the sims...well who am I kidding I have ADD in my life in all aspects and it's rearing it's ugly head.
I see a lot of people are sorting out their downloads folders and I thought Iâd offer up my advice because I like to think someone might find it useful.
*This is useful for Clothing body and Top/bottomâ
1. Open SimPE and click on the âToolsâ tab.
2. Click on âScan Folderâ
3. You follow the sequence shown in the image, you must have selected only the âThumbnail Scannerâ and âClothing Scannerâ boxes.
4. In step 4 you must select the folder where you have the clothes you are going to recategorize.
5. Click on âscanâ for SimPE to read the files.
6. Once the clothes have been scanned (it may take a while depending on how many clothes you have in the selected folder) all the textures of the clothes will be displayed, just select the texture and NOT THE MESH.
7. Select the category in which you want your clothes to appear.
8. Once the category is selected, you must click on âsetâ to save it.
The box will be unchecked, thatâs normal, just click âscanâ again to check that all the textures are in the category you chose.
