Okay people talk about omegas having toys to help them through heat but let's get deep into it.

Knotted dildos. It's a classic. A silicone toy with a slightly tapered bulb at the base so an omega can't hurt themself on it. The knot is also softer than the rest of the toy because alpha knots are softer like that. This also allows the omega to contract around the toy like their body wants and "milk" the "cum" from the toy.

(Also note these are what come in emergency heat kits that can be found in workplaces. Basic toys like this are sold at drug stores)

Inflatable knotted dildos. These are the slightly more advanced version. They cost a bit more for the special feature of a knot that grows while the toy is being used. They can have a pump or a mechanism at the bottom that reacts to an omega mounting the knot. Whatever the case, they inflate and deflate over the average for alphas.

Cream-filled dildos, with or without a knot are toys that have fake alpha cum that can be inserted and released. The fake cum can be basic lube, or it can be prescription with artifical pheromones that ease heat symptoms.

Prescription "cum" was just mentioned. It's lube-like artifical spunk for omegas in heat. It has pheromones, donated or made, that ease heat symptoms. This lube is used usually for overheated omegas or in relationships where the mate can't produce cum that will ease their mate.

Omega fleshlights. These are much smaller fleshlights than alphas would buy. They're often simple and have little texturing on the inside for the sake of oversensitive heat-cocks. This also applies to grinding mats for afab anatomy, or smaller dicked omegas.

Strap on toys. These aren't what you think they are! These are toys that are secured to an omega, like a fleshlight with a belt, do the omega can focus on other things while still getting pleasure during heat. This leaves 2 free hands and stimulated junk!

Plugs. Plugs are VERY common for omegas both in and out of heat. Plugs used to keep cum inside of an omega and encourage mating are restricted under prescription as a "family planning" device due to their shape. Other Plugs, with a traditional shape, are used for easing pre/post heat even while in public.

Gland stimulators. These are collars, bracelets, and garters made in leather or softer fabrics to create pressure on sensitive points.

Bite collars. A collar with teeth-like nubs that dig into the mating point on the back of an omegas neck.

There are two types of nurseries in this verse: nurseries as regular rooms and a more traditional style nursery.

Traditional style nurseries are usually small rooms large enough for one or two people to lay down on the floor or walk around. A nursery usually has a window against one wall with a larger sill that acts as a built-in table which can be used while standing. Traditional style nurseries are meant to be inviting places for expecting omegas to nest, and thus, nurseries are usually built to either insolate heat (for cold places) or release heat (for hot places). In northern climates, a nursery is typically built next to the furnace, so that the nursery stays warm.

One of the main characteristics of a nursery is the replaceable cushioned floor. The entire floor of a traditional nursery is lightly padded, that way an omega can lay down or build a nest in comfort. Nurseries are also built to be heavily customizable, so that couples can make renovations to fit the omega's preferences.

Fact 80: Omegas purr when they're happy and some omegas purr more often than others.

For example, omega 1 purrs only when surrounded by pack who is also purring but omega 2 will start the purr machine at the drop of a hat. They wake up in cozy blankets? Purr. A friend makes them happy? Purr.

The point is, omegas can purr louder, quieter, more often, less often. It just depends on the person.

As far as humans are aware, the only species on earth that function with the two-tiered, four-gender system are humans, great apes, and monkeys. There are also a few marsupials that possess a similar system of reproduction.

At one point in history, it was a common thought that wolves possessed the same reproductive system as humans. However, with the turn of the century, it's been proven untrue.

Like how calling someone a "pup" can mean that person is childish or immature, an even stronger insult is "beta." Since beta is the state that a child is in before they present, calling someone a beta can be insulting since for preteens, many children are keeping track of who remains a beta and who blooms into an alpha or omega. To remain a "beta" into adulthood is considered odd.

Heat is Sexy

Another common myth, more perpetuated by alphas, is that heat is something that makes an omega submissive and open to sex 24/7. It's a trope often seen in books and movies. In reality, heats are often accompanied by a number of other undesirable symptoms, sometimes mood swings or general physical pain, in addition to a heightened libido. Slick gets everywhere, and undesirable fluids along with them. Omegas in heat may often actually prefer to have gentle sex, as rough sex may be too painful for them. Many may not want sex at all, as prefer to take care of themselves since for a few, sex can be physically painful, and dick won't make it any better. Many omegas are not going into heat looking like pornstars, and may actually more resemble a basement goblin.

Heat = Consent

Due to the patriarchal nature of many places, heat may be misconstrued as consent. Many omegas don’t actually want to have sex during heat, and prefer to ride it out alone.

Omegas need Alphas for their Heats

There’s this concept that omegas can only benefit from an alpha spending time with them during their heats, but that isn’t true. Sexual activity of any kind, regardless of the partner’s gender, can benefit an omega in heat and help them through it.

Omegas like Big Knots

Most omegas don’t like big knots. It’s a sudden expansion of something that, if too big, can make sex painful. Many omegas prefer a knot of average size.

Pregnancy Doesn’t Occur Unless You Knot

While losing one’s virginity is important, some alphas believe that so long as they don’t knot inside of an omega, the omega won’t get pregnant. This is untrue, as fertilization can occur whether or not a knot latches.

My Version of Omegaverse

Well the biggest thing I can think of is that in the version of omegaverse I write, I do the population proportions differently. In the majority of omegaverse fanfics and manga I read, it's like this:

Alphas are at the top of society and they are few

Betas are the vast majority of society and they are plain and average (or in fanfics, they have some superhuman mediating ability)

Omega are at the bottom of society and at extremely rare

I'm not heavily invested in the kink aspect of omegaverse, so I did away with the societal hierarchy just cause it just didn't feel right or accurate to reality (even though patriarchies are very common in our world). When I write fanfiction, I focus a lot on world-building, and I focus on using it as a lens to freely explore how gender is treated and viewed.

I also write fanfiction, and so I had this thought: "why is it that a genre that focuses so much on alpha/omega relationships also claims that omegas and the like are rare?” I felt like the way it was commonly set up contrasted way too much with what’s often seen in narratives. ‘Omegas are rare yet they can find each other so often and so easily in stories, or there are tons of headcanons about omegas all together’ and ‘Betas are numerous and overwhelming in number but at the same time they are all plain and regular.’ 

Also, lots of people who read omegaverse stories read it for alpha/omega relationships, don’t they? Then why make alpha/omega relationships the majority? I’ve seen a ton of “everyone is gay” fanfics, why not do the same here? Omegaverse focuses so heavily on its world-building that I ended up arranging the world to better fit how it’s often written:

Alphas and omegas are the most common sexes

Alpha/omega relationships are the most common type of relationship

For betas, I honestly felt so bad for them. They're discarded as side characters with nothing interesting to their name. They're "normal" and therefore don't have a lot of struggles or internal conflicts that are core to how people write omegaverse. So instead, I made them the minority. In a world, and a genre, where alphas and omegas are the focus of life, where does a beta fit in the story? They don't. They don't fit in. In many AU's I've seen, betas are even discouraged from being in a relationship with an alpha or omega and it's glossed over. If an author tries to make betas interesting, they're not given human struggles or real interactions with other dynamics. They're just given the "has a majorly awesome sense of smell" or "they're great at mediating things" and "they're super fast and agile" or insert some superpower trait. I feel like omegaverse is about gender identity and focuses on how characters from different fandoms view their gender. So why don't betas get that same treatment?

Betas are a minority

I write fanfiction, and one of the fandoms I've written for is Attack on Titan, and one character I've decided to make a beta is Connie. I won't go into detail but essentially, I found the struggle of beta in a beta-minority world really interesting. Connie is a character who doesn't have many talents and is not very smart either. Being beta in an alpha/omega world, that makes it even worst as a young teen. How does a teen who's been told their entire life that they'll grow up, present, and get their own classic alpha meets omega story cope when they realize they won't have that story? As with how omegas are analogous to the struggles of irl women, I thought a beta in this type of AU would have struggles very similar to non-binary or agender people. He isn't an alpha or omega. He doesn't have hope of ever becoming either, so he has to learn to accept himself as is, and he won't get an easy-out of this struggle by having a natural talent, superpower, or affinity to identify with. He's not just a throwaway, side-character, regular, plain-jane beta.

Bonding marks are a myth

I think this one is mainly because I really dislike soulmate AU's. I'm aromantic, so I'm really not into the whole "there's a special person for everyone" trope. However, that doesn't mean I don't like the nape-biting stuff, I think it's really interesting. And just cause there's no actual spiritual bond created by the practice of nape-biting doesn't mean the relationship is any less special.

Here are some other minor things:

"Feral" isn't really a thing

Omegas can't be subdued by scent or hitting a pressure point in the nape

Alphas don't have an "alpha voice"

All the things mentioned above I may write in as part of my myth notes, but I like to treat them as superstitions or misconceptions that can be explained away.

The only way to reliably identify what a person's secondary sex is without directly viewing their genitals is by scent.

My Version of Omegaverse

In this verse, "mom" and "dad" are very flexible names, with their usage differing from culture to culture.

In most cultures, "mom" refers to the parent who delivered the pups, regardless of primary sex. In adopted families, the parent who would have delivered is called the mother. "Mom" is also usually a name given to the parent who spends the most time with the pups, regardless of sex or gender.

General Rut Headcanons

My Version of Omegaverse

Ruts are the alpha equivalent of heats, and occur far less frequently than heats do. Unlike omega heats which occur tri-monthly, most alphas get an annual rut which lasts much longer too, lasting from 14-20 days between the months of September to February.

During an Alpha's rut, they will typically become irritable and experience mood swings. They will also experience libido highs, but the pattern is different from an Omega's heat.

There are two stages of rut:

Pre-Rut

When pre-rut occurs, an Alpha's body begins to release pheromones meant to attract potential mates. However, this pheromone has a dual-purpose, as responses to it can vary depending on the sex of the individual. Alphas have mixed reactions to it. If the alpha detecting it isn't in rut themselves, they will have very little reaction aside from being wary of the individual. If an alpha who is in rut detects it, they will take it a challenge, and may be urged to seek out their competitor and brawl them.

During this stage, an alpha's libido rises but it isn't by much. The alpha may experience craving for physical contact or affection, and will spend the 5-7 day length of pre-rut seeking out a mate to spend their rut with. Mated alphas will try to court their own partners, while unmated alphas may go out to try and find one. Alphas will be aggressive and may have trouble controlling focusing on tasks. Alphas will be less irritable towards omegas, but they will have beef with other alphas. If they find a partner, they'll start denning in their home to invite their partner to nest.

Rut

During the main phase of rut, which lasts for the remainder of the period, alphas will withdraw into their own home turf and stay there. They will experience a number of symptoms, common ones including: dehydration, major irritability, fever, insomnia, over-sensitivity, headaches, and a major spike in libido. Alphas can take care of themselves during rut but it will be difficult. Alphas will show sexually receptive behaviour but their waves are less intense, and each wave can have hours between them. When an alpha is in rut, they'll try to scent their property and anyone they deem to be in their immediate social circle.

When an Alpha's rut begins to end, they will return to normal without many issues.

Other Rut Headcanons

An Alpha's rut takes place in the winter because in the winter, humans are usually shut indoors and mating becomes easier. (Also I checked if humans have a "mating season" and apparently, most babies are conceived during fall and winter).

Not all alphas have their rut occur between September and February, but most do.

When an Alpha's rut will occur changes as they age. Younger alphas typically have their rut earlier, between September and December. Older alphas typically have their rut between December and February. This is theorized to occur so that younger alphas have a better chance at getting their foot in the genepool before the older alphas.

Unlike heats which can be skipped when an omega is feeling stressed, alpha ruts will occur no matter the circumstance, unless the alpha is gravely injured. Winter is usually a hard time as it is, so alphas have evolved to ignore the environmental pressures of winter.

Rut symptoms lessen as an alpha ages, becoming more tolerable. By the time an alpha is 30 and up, their ruts may be half as difficult as they used to be. By the time they are 50, an alpha may not feel any rut symptoms at all aside from a modest rise in libido.

My Version of Omegaverse

In media, omegas are often portrayed as physically weak, helpless, motherly, and feminine. However, this is often untrue in real life, as omegas exist in a wide variety. Omegas come from a range of different backgrounds and roots, and really only share key physical traits that can identify them with the omega sex. There are tall and short omegas, masculine and feminine omegas. It's virtually impossible to accurately predict who is and isn't an omega based on appearance alone.

While societies that place alphas on top and omegas underneath them are common, especially in history, there have also been societies and cultures that place equal value on both dynamics.

Denning vs Nesting

My Version of Omegaverse

Just to define what "denning" behaviour is vs "nesting" behaviour. Both types of behaviours have been documented in both of the main dynamics, though denning is more associated with alphas while nesting is associated with omegas.

Denning

The act of denning involves someone (usually an alpha) fixing up a space or organizing it to encourage a someone (usually an omega) to nest in it. Common examples include:

Young alphas cleaning and organizing their dorm rooms to make it look like a suitable place for an omega to nest.

A new father alpha cleaning and organizing the house so that their newly adopted omega child may easily find a place to make a new nest. Either that or make the job easier for their omega mother to teach their new omega child how to nest.

An omega trying to clean and organize a room so their ill omega sibling can easily find a place to nest and feel safe.

Nesting

The act of nesting involve an individual gathering soft objects like blankets and pillows and arranging them in a "nest-like" formation. This formation is small, but large enough to lay down in, possibly the size of a small bed. The nest is then subsequently decorated with items that make the owner feel happy, often objects like clothes from loved ones, stuffed animals, or even snacks. An individual will usually scout out an ideal space within their home to make a nest. Good environmental factors usually include:

Familiarity

A good warm temperature

Privacy

Hidden from bright lights

Adoption Headcanons

-A young Omega child being adopted into a family that already has an Alpha child and bursting into tears when the two meet and the little Alpha very bluntly says, “You don’t smell right at all” because the Omega doesn’t smell like ‘home’ or ‘family’ after being lightly scolded and corrected by his mother, the little Alpha feels awful for upsetting their new sibling. After their rough start the Alpha goes out of their way to comfort and protect the timid Omega

-Little Omegas being adopted and being so happy and excited when their new parents provide them with a bunch of stuffed animals and cozy blankets, things the Omegas had never been able to have a lot of before

-A young Alpha that was once mistreated by their biological Alpha parent being very skittish/afraid around adult Alphas. After being adopted by an Alpha/Omega couple they cling to the Omega like crazy right from the beginning but they take a few months to warm up to the kind and loving Alpha that’s trying so hard to get the child to trust them

-A moody young Alpha being fully aware that they are going to have two new parents, what they weren’t prepared for was a very loud and loving Omega woman that calls herself ‘Grandma’ and keeps trying to give them candy and gifts despite the child’s reluctance to interact with her. At first the Alpha honestly just finds her to be very overwhelming but they grow attached to her kind personality and her warm and comforting scent

-An easily frightened/intimidated Beta child being timid and anxious when their parents first bring them home but being instantly comforted by the couple’s Omega child who happily drags their new younger Beta sibling into their nest on the couch to watch movies and eat cookies

-A young Omega child being very quiet and serious as their new parents pick them up to bring them home. Their Alpha parent wrapping them up in their own huge sweatshirt because it’s freezing outside and the little Omega feels so safe and comforted by the gesture, they are too shy to actually say anything but they never give the sweatshirt back and they’ll only go to sleep if it’s in bed with them which their new parents think is adorable

-An Alpha/Omega couple adopting a newborn and spending the first couple weeks constantly holding the baby or cuddling them in their nest to make sure their baby becomes attached to their scents

-A teenage Alpha being incredibly weary of their new adoptive parents but becoming unexpectedly attached and protective of the couple’s small Beta child that insists on sticking to the Alpha like glue

-A Beta child being adopted into a family with a huge dog and freaking out because they’ve never really been around dogs. The child avoiding the dog for a couple days until one night when they are upset and the dog crawls up into bed with them and allows the child to cuddle up with them until they fall asleep. The two being inseparable after that

-An Omega being adopted into a family with Alpha twins that are just a couple years older and the twins are just instantly attached to their new little Omega sibling, each of the young Alphas always holds one of the Omega’s hands whenever they go somewhere and are always low-key competing for the small Omega’s attention and approval

My Version of Omegaverse

Omega napes are considered attractive. While not explicitly sexual like genitals or similar, omega napes are usually desired by alphas since alphas mark the nape to symbolize a bond with an omega, or a coupling. While a marked nape is a sign of maturity, an bare unmarked nape is a sign of vulnerability and sexual availability.

Many clothes that are designed for omegas may intentionally leave the nape open. For younger omegas, parents usually try to encourage them to cover up their napes either by wearing a collared shirt, wearing a scarf, or growing one’s hair out. In more conservative areas, an omega who shows off their bare nape may be scorned for being “indecent.”

Omegas will feel very closely tied to their homes and families. As a result, if an omega loses their home or family tragically, they will usually go down either one of two paths:

Eliminate the thing that destroyed their home/family.

Use everything they have to try and restore their home/family.
