Imagine: You have a nightmare and the Winchesters come to comfort you
Pairing: Dean x Reader
Warnings: Supernatural nightmares, Dean being Dean
It was the same dream every time.
You were running from the same black-eyed monster. Every night, it killed Sam and Dean; tortured them right in front of you. You never thought a dream could be so vivid, you never thought the blood could be so clear...
"Y/N!" Came the Winchesters' strangled screams clashed into one. You couldn't tell whose voice belonged to who. You ran harder, trying to catch up to them.
The screams grew unbearably loud. You covered your ears, screaming as well. It was all too much.
You sat up at the speed of light, feeling warm tears slide down your cheeks. The two stars of your nightmares stood hovering over you, worried expressions upon their faces. Dean's hands were clutching your shoulders, holding you together as if you were going to fall apart at any time.
Your breathing was erratic and the tears continued to cloud your vision. You tried to speak, but all that came out was a breathy sob. Within seconds, you were pulled into their arms. You buried your face into the soft material of Sam's shirt as you felt Dean rub your back gently.
"Another one?" Sam's quiet voice pricked the silence. All you could let out was a whimper. You hated feeling like this. So weak and vulnerable.
"This is the fourth one this week, sweetheart. You gotta talk to us." Dean mumbled, voice thick with sleep as he continued to rub his hand along your back. The three of you sat in silence until you were ready to speak.
"I-It-" You choked out, only to be stopped by a second round of tears. "It k-killed you guys."
You watched as the brothers shared a look.
"T-Tortured you..." Another sob wracked your body.
"Shhh... We're here. We're right here, we're not going anywhere." Sam soothed, his voice remained soft and gentle. "You're safe. We're safe. We'll never leave you."
A single tear slipped down your cheek as you looked up at the two. "Promise me."
They looked at each other and then back at you.
"I promise." Sam said, giving you a small smile.
"I promise." Dean whispered, squeezing your hand.
You smiled weakly. What would you do without them? They go through so much every single day, and yet here they were, comforting you from a nightmare.
A few minutes went on but Sam still hasn't let go of you and Dean was still mindlessly running a hand along your back. You were almost reluctant to say you were starting to feel better and that they could go back to their rooms.
"Thank you guys... for comforting me." You whispered, burying yourself deeper into Sam's embrace before allowing him to let you go. "You can go back to sleep now."
"Are you sure?" They both asked in unison. You smiled and gave them a small nod. they shared a look before hesitantly pulling themselves away from you.
Sam was the first to get up. He ran a hand along your arm and gave you a gentle smile before turning to the door.
"You coming, Dean?" He looked back at the two of you still sitting together on the bed. Dean cleared his throat, scratching the back of his neck awkwardly.
"Uh, yeah... Just wanted to say goodnight to Y/N before you know... going to bed."
Sam gave him a weird look, but nodded and turned to you. "Goodnight, Y/N. If you need anything, come wake one of us up, okay?"
You nodded, giving him a smile as he walked out and back to his room.
You turned to Dean, looking up into his green eyes that were so full of compassion and love. He cleared his throat again, standing up.
"Well, um... You should get your rest." He said, scratching the back of his neck again. "I'll just... you know-"
You cut him off by grabbing onto his hand. He looked completely shocked and flustered.
"Uh, can you... stay with me?" You asked softly, giving his hand a light squeeze. "Just for tonight. You know, in case the nightmares come back."
He smiled and bit his lip. "Move over."
You grinned, lifting up the covers and allowing him to crawl in beside you.
"Are you sure you actually want to do this or are you just doing it because I cried?" You asked playfully, causing him to shoot you a crooked grin.
"How could I ever say no to you, Y/N?"
Dean can be very sweet and sentimental when he wants to be. You were glad that now was one of those times. It's actually quite adorable and it's not something you see very often.
You smiled. "You're cute."
He raised his eyebrows, trying to hide his growing smirk. "So I've been told."
The playful vibe died down after a couple minutes of silence.
"Dean, I don't what I'd do without you." You whispered, mindlessly running a hand along his chest. He sighed, taking your other hand in his.
"You won't." He stated. You were going to say something, but he continued. "Truth is, I need you way more than you need me. I don't think I'd be able to handle myself if I ever left you. Heaven, hell... whatever it is, I don't think I'd be able to stop thinking about you."
You stared into his amazingly green eyes in shock. No, in awe.
"And that..." He let out a shaken breath. "is what keeps me going. It's what's keeping me alive."
Your fingers stroked along his cheeks, watching as his eyes reflected just about every ounce of sadness they could muster. The past few months haven't exactly been the easiest for him, either. With dealing with the mark while trying to balance a few cases a week, he hasn't really had much time for himself. Whenever he did, he would always go into that same dark place. You and Sam noticed his change in personality, but didn't really speak much on it since Dean wasn't really the chatty type. He kept things like this to himself.
"Dean, sweetheart, you're worth so much more than you think. Believe me." You whispered, swiping you thumb underneath his watery eyes. "You're so caring and loving and you always put everyone's need before your own. I love your sense of humor and your ability to make me feel so happy whenever you're around... Dean, you're perfect in every single way. I wouldn't trade you for the world."
Dean stayed silent as he listened to your soft words. It was soothing to him to hear you speak and it was definitely something he needed to hear. No matter how much he hated himself, you always somehow managed to make him feel like he's worth it.
He gave you a soft smile, playing with your fingers. "Thank you."
"You don't need to thank me, you know that."
"I do. You're the one that's supposed to be comforted right now. Not me. But yet here I am, finding myself feeling happy just by the sound of your voice and the touch of your fingers. You're so selfless, Y/N. You haven't gotten a good night's sleep in over two weeks."
You shrugged. "My lack of sleep isn't your fault, Dean. You don't have to worry about it."
"I'll always worry for you, sweetheart."
You continued running your hand along his chest, feeling every muscle relax under your fingertips. He kept his gaze on you, playing with a strand of your hair.
"Why are you always so sweet to me?" You smiled, meeting his eyes once more.
"Hey, Dean Winchester is not sweet. He may occasionally let his guard down around you, but he's not sweet." He opposed, scrunching up his face in disgust as you let out a light laugh.
"No, you're sweet." You stated, tracing his jawline with your finger. He rolled his eyes.
"What are you doing?" He asked with furrowed eyebrows. You shrugged.
"What? I like your stubble..."
He chuckled. "Yeah, you might have told me that a couple hundred times over the years."
You liked this. Just talking with Dean. It made you feel calm. He distracted you.
"Go to sleep, Y/N. You can barely keep your eyes open."
"Shut up, Dean. I'm perf... perfectly capable of staying, hm, awake." You protested, pushing his chest playfully.
"Sure you are..." He muttered, rolling onto his back.
"Hey!" You muttered. "You're not leaving me."
He turned back to face you. "I won't. I promise."
You smiled as he pulled you into his arms. Your face buried into his chest as you breathed in, sighing contently. His arms wrapped around you and pressed your body closer to him. Your legs tangled with his and you heard him let out a breath.
"Is this okay?" He asked with his lips pressed into your hair. You nodded, pressing closer, if that were even possible.
"You're warm." You mumbled, feeling his stubble against your forehead.
He chuckled. "Go to sleep, princess. I'll be here when you wake up. I promise."
You smiled, looking up to his eyes. They crinkled at the corners as he smiled down at you. You reached up and pressed a kiss to his cheek. His stubble grazed against his lips and you could feel his grin get larger.
"Goodnight, Dean." You whispered, snuggling back into his chest.
