A Narnian and a Calormene|| Constance and Zenobia
onangelsside:
Perhaps it was due to how much Constance knew, but she couldn’t help the sigh which came from her at the mention of it being male dominated again. Either way, despite her position, she couldn’t say she encouraged women being in the guard… going to war, or killing someone was something most could not handle. It changed one and stripped away innocence. Maybe in this little thing she had to give Calormen credit.
“I see. Though they say that behind every powerful man is an equally powerful woman, so perhaps it is merely that your society has managed that art quite well?” She said, half to Zenobia half to herself. “A woman has no true reason to fight I believe if she can avoid it war is not a pleasant business. Narnian women were forced into action unless they stayed in Archenland, so I suppose we have a different sort of standard.”
The woman was right, that behind every great or powerful man is a great or powerful woman. She had seen it in history, and hoped to see it in Calormen one day. She had heard of it with Narnia and the Pevensie sisters, and with Galma and their current Queen. She would love to see more women as Head of States or acting in such positions. Her words…gave her hope.
“No, unfortunately Calormen hasn’t really have that happened. But I bray to the Gods that it habbens, and I wish to see it soon.” said Zenobia in full honesty. “But I agree with you, on behind every man is a woman, like your two Queens, and how Galma has Queen Cornelia.” She nodded in understanding as she spoke of Archenland and Narnia’s women. “I see. Every country does, by the looks. Tell me, I’ve never been to Archenland, but what is it like over there?” pondered Zenobia with a smile.
Confusion painted across the constable's face, followed by a shake of her head and a sigh. It was strange almost how unpatriotic this Tarkheena sounded, speaking so freely of her country's seeming evils... from male dominated to putting down of the women herself. She mentioned Narnias own royals and that of Galmas queen, which Constance raised a brow at. Did this girl not listen? She was not speaking of women who had no man above them, but of women who were forced to dependence and to survive had to learn cunning.
"How strange. I've heard that the Harems of Calormen have some of the most cunning of women, as would only make sense to survive in such a culture. I Have a friend who was a slave there, I would not be so quick to knock her potential as one such woman. My mother always speaks of a woman's ability to influence men, and how it is the women who cannot influence that speak so horribly of men themselves." She said, her arms swinging behind her back, green eyes roving the sight of the Tarkheena.
Perhaps she was one of the women her mother always warned of... it would explain much. Her clear distaste for the men of her realm, and surprise at her position as a constable. "In any case it is those I was speaking of, not queens with no king above them who would cut off their heads. The fact that some women live somewhat comfortably in your culture is a credit to their abilities...you shouldn't knock them down so in comparison to those whose situation is so drastically different. It is an insult to both parties."
Her arms crossed over her chest as Constance shrugged. "It's not too much different than here. In a way Narnia is more broken, the winter making much they still has to be fixed. The threat looming over us is one such broken piece-- I'm sure you've heard of this madman who's been causing trouble."
