Hey I just found this blog, so idrk what im doing here, but a few years ago I found out that I have mohawk/algonquin heritage, and I've been trying to learn about my people but it's hard for me to do that since I live in the wabanaki confederacy
I don't really know how to word this because I'm not even entirely sure what to ask, but do you have an idea of what my culture is supposed to be like? Any advice sort of thing? Miigwech!
Shekóli/Aanii,
So first I want to preface this by saying I don’t know what it’s like being entirely disconnected and so therefore, I don’t know if my advice will be necessarily helpful but I think if you simply just want to know more about those cultures, I would go to their websites as a first step, usually most First Nation bands have a website with a culture/language section and sometimes even YouTube channels that you can learn from. I’m not sure how far removed you are, but if you have extended family members that are more familiar with your culture(s), you can talk to them to get more information or potentially getting in contact with your specific band(s) might be helpful as well
