hi im angie and this is my blog for reviewing different media, mostly anime, manga and games but i also read books and watch movies so you can expect to see that too! i am an adult and a fujo lesbian
hi im angie but i also go by princess and im an adult! my pronouns are he/she and i really love my friends, yaoi and sharks.
this is my review blog where i will review the media i consume such as manga, anime, games, books, movies and etc. this is just my personal space to dump my thoughts but im always open to making friends and discussing!
additionally i might sometimes yap about things unrelated about reviews. i just want to have a space where i can dump all my thoughts without the preassure of performing well ^_^
i am a big yaoi liker and im living my fujoshi life. i also do love yuri and slice of life and crime/thriller! recommendations are always welcome~
although i love yaoi i can't stand non-con so i'll kindly ask all people who identify as proshippers to not interact. i do think that what you're into is a reflection of your morals (to an extent) and also i'd just rather not see that, thanks. <3
a common "problem" (for the lack of better word) i often encounter in yaoi i read is that more often than not a really interesting concept and storyline is shoved into a single volume, making the story fast paced, rushed and very underwhelming. i really wish mangakas didn't have to worry about whether their story volume is going to sell well enough to allow them to make more additions...so many stories remain unfinished or have a very rushed ending that's unsatisfying to the reader. personally, i find it hard to get attached to characters and get invested into their stories if i only get to know basic information all shoved into five chapters. so many of these stories could be life changing and amazing if only the mangakas had the means to write the story properly...but alas...
seventeen syrups is a very short but sweet manga. i loved every single chapter and i think it honestly might be one of my fav yaois of all time. (definetly in top 5)
the story follows mizuki and kentaru, two popular guys who end up falling head over heels for one another.
i don't wanna go too deep into spoiler territory but there is a side of angst related to mizuki's backstory and i really like how it was handled.
my only complaint is that this wasn't longerā¦i finished it in 20 minutes and the story was really good, artstyle was gorgeous, sex scenes were banging, characters were loveable but it was justā¦short. i find that to be the most common issue when it comes to bl manga. a lot of them only have one or two volumes which means there is a limit as to how much a mangaka can write and explore the story.
this was an awesome read and i definetly recommend, i just wish it was longer.
i loved this story a lot! it is a story of two bl mangakas who start their relationship on a whim but end up falling for each other deeply. it's a really fun, lighthearted and entartaining read with really good sex scenes! shinobu's friend nakata is also really loveable!!!
i wish we got more info about the two side charactersāshinobu's old neighbours. honestly, i have no complaints i just wish this was longer ^_^' i feel like there is so much that we can explore with such loveable characters and interesting storyline!
i noticed the artstyle change at the last volume and im not sure what the reason for that is but i don't mind :o i doooo slightly prefer how raizou was drawn in vol1 and vol2 but he does look more mature and handsome in vol3!
i also like how shinobu might seem scary and intimidating and like ur regular black haired tsundere guy but he is actually a huge sweetheart and has a very big and innocent heartā¦the stars in his eyes oighjsus so cuteeee :'3 overall, very good and i recommend!!
this review will contain spoilers and i will immediately say i did NOT like this manga. at first it looked incredibely promising but then the more i read the more things started happening that i did not understand how they could be resolved in within 6 chapters.
the story follows yasuharu and yuma, two childhood friends. yasuharu is obsessive and madly in love with yuma and if you know me, you know yandere trope is my guilty peasure so i went into this very excited only to be very very dissapointed...
there are multiple scenes that can come off as SA which at first, i skimmed past because after all, i am a fujoshi who keeps on consuming yaoi after yaoi and to my dismay, a lot of the times this kind of thing is frequent and author's poorly disguised fetish (not an actual commentary or a critique.) i think that's my main problem with this series.
it starts of cute, we get a flashback of the characters' childhood and it genuinely does look like sweet first love.
then, one day yasuharu snaps and locks yuma in their shared apartment, handcuffs him to the bed and practically keeps him locked in there without his consent. now, i did like this because i love seeing how posessive lovers in media are potrayedāi like getting into the unhealthiness of their relationships and i like indulging in psyhologically morally dubious aspects of their characters.
in fact, a side character critiques yasuharu and explains to him that what he is doing is a crime. when i read this i foolishly belived that author was self aware of how problematic yasuharu is being, keeping yuma tied up and touching him inapropperiately every chance he gets in order to manipulate yuma into staying by his side. by continuously touching yuma and making him experience sexual pleasure, his body will start associating yasuharu with that same feeling of pleasure and yuma will want to stay by yasuharu's side!
unfortunately, at this point we are almost at the end of the manga and this is where the panic settles in. how will this play out? does the author have enough time to seriously brush against these issues? of course not angie you were being a fool!! this is fetish and SA romanticization silly, not a critique or analysis of morally dubious posessive lovers! because really, these two do NOT belong together. it's an interesting dynamic to indulge in and study but their relationship simply cannot end in "love" because it simply isn't. yuma is a victim who has been manipulated into staying with yasuharu and yasuharu is a freak who needs therapy before he may enter a dating scene.
again, i wouldn't have a problem with this manga if it ended differently but essentially what happened was that one day, yuma found yasuharu gone and had a big realization of how much he loves yasuharu and how he actually can't live without him! hell, even this ending wouldn't have been bad if it was potrayed as a bad one and a tragedy but instead the author potrays it as a happy love story where "yay yuma finally realized his feelings!" no he didn't!!!!!!! he is a victim do not make this out to be a love story when it's simply not.
i feel crazy and i have no idea if i am expressing myself correctly because it's so hard to put my thoughts into words in a way that will make sense.
also this panel is crazy. you refuse to penetrate him because that's "going too far and friends don't do that" but oh yeah touching every part of his body in a sexual way is totally not going too far. this guy drives me insane.
to sum it up and clarify myselfāi dont have a problem with dark stories like these. i think this plot could have been very interesting if it was longer and had more time to delve into moral aspects of yasuharu's posessive behaviour and actually critique it rather than romanticize it.
in my opinion i would do one of the following: 1. not make them endgame 2. have them end up together but let it be known it is a bad ending for the two of them and not a everyone lived happily ever after type of romance 3. have yuma match his freak by being toxic in return. after all, toxic yaoi is only really good if it's mutualāotherwise we get slop like this.
thank you for reading, again these are just my opinions and i am yapping to my small echo chamber without any intention of people actually reading this.
since im just starting this blog i think the proper way to do so is by reviewing one of my favorite yaoi mangas of all timeābarefoot angel. it's been around a month since i read this story so my memory (that's already really bad) might not serve me the best but i will try my best!
brief synopsis
barefoot angel follows turner, a shoemaker, who runs into a strange guy with no shoes on a cold winter day. the mysterious guy claims to be an ex-angel that was kicked out of heaven for touching a human soul (something all angels are forbidden from doing). turner's curiosity only grows from there after he sees the scars on the angel's back. the angel then tells him about his dream to walk around the world, meet new people and discover new places. in need of a human name, the ex-angel settles for benjamin by turner's suggestionābenny for short. amazed by the human world and with newfond curiosity benny decides that he wants to explore. obiously, the task will be a bit hard without having any money, no shoes and lack of knowledge about humans and their way of life. that's when turner steps in and decides to let him stay at his place for the time being while benny saves up some money. not only that but he also promises to make benny his own shoes. the process of shoemaking is fascinating to the angel and he agrees to their deal. from there on, their love for one another blossoms and they start navigating complex and new feelings for another.
mild spoilers ahead! - my review
there is smut in the manga but it's really soft and tender rather than erotic. the relationship between these two is really adorable and fully consensual (which we love to see!) i loved both benny and turner and because i mostly read slice of life manga in our usual setting this was a nice change of pace. i loved the supernatural elements as well as the romance which, in my opinion, was very well done.
at the end of the volume one, benny's shoes are done and he sets off to his journey of traveling through britain. one would expect that this moment would be very sad and depressing because...it is a farewell. however, their love is strong and blooming and because of how much they value one another they promise to reunite after benjamin is done with his journey. he has a home with turner and instead of a depressing ending where benny leaves, the fact we know he is going to come back makes it easier to handle.
yesterday i finished "turtles all the way down" by john green and (mild spoilers) the book finishes with the sentance "no one ever says good-bye unless they want to see you again." which i think can be applied in this scenario.
this is only the end of volume one out of three so...as you guessed it benjamin does indeed return!! we get to find out turner was worried about his lover but all's well that ends well!
the second and third volume is full of ups and downs, surprises and plot twists as well as two major new characters! i will not get into retelling the whole plot of it because i feel like that'd be useless and also because i want whoever is reading this to pick up this manga themselves.
if we are being fully honest i don't think the author was planning for volume one to suceed as much therefore not making much plans for volume 2 and 3. it's not that they're rushed because i think the whole manga is paced okay but more because if you read volume one that could be the end. so in a way last two volumes dont feel necessary but also i do like them and love reading about my boys and their adventures, struggles and things going on in their life. it's just...yeah a thing that i felt might be the case but it's by no means bad!!!
unfortunately, artstyle is something that matters to me when reading manga because i am not the type of person that's willing to sit through a yaoi with horrendous and unrealistic (and fetishy) anatomy...but there was none of it here so yay! i loved the art and it made me look more into mangaka's other work!
conclusion
this is at the moment my second favorite yaoi manga and i so so so strongly urge everyone to read this. the artstyle is pretty, the story is really good, the characters love each other, the sex is good and consensual and there's not much to lose by giving this a shot ;)
thank you for reading my review if you came this far it really means a lot to me!! this is my own personal archive so i don't care about the reach but hey...if someone actually took time to read all of this then i will be extremly grateful!

anon on twitter asked me about how wxs shows affection and i ended up rambling so i figured i might as well share it on tumblr as well!!!
tsukasa shows his affection through acts of service. he shows it in kind gestures from setting up alarms at midnight (because his ass is definetly in bed by 10pm sharp) to message nene and remind her to go to bed, looking over emu and buying her sweets she mentioned liking in the passing one singular time (he might have fucked up memory but he always makes sure to remember what his loved ones like, another headcanon is that he writes it all in a journal so he doesn't forget) to sneaking veggies in rui's lunches and bringing an extra water bottle because of course that purple cat was too deep into inventing to remember to drink...to sum it up tsukasa loves to scold rui and emu and banter with nene but every single action he does is full of love and care. he shows love when one of them merely coughs and suddenly practice is canceled, theyre all at his house, wrapped in soft blankets as he brews them tea with honey. tsukasa is a tsundere in a way because he will scold emu for visiting kamikou when she is not allowed to but hide her so she can stay and have lunch with the rest of wxs regardless. he will curse rui for giving him trouble and causing mischief (because he *is* on the disciplinary comittee after all) but will still let him go unpunished and smile fondly knowing rui is having fun in a school enviroment.
emu shows love and affection louder and with way more physical contact. she holds nene's hand during walks, swinging it back and forth (which makes nene's hand feel sore but she loves emu too much to say anything), she climbs onto rui like a koala because he is just so big and tall, he is more than happy to carry her on his shoulders so she can feel tall, she tackles tsukasa and jumps into his arms as he yells out "WAIT EMU DONT JUMP!!!!!" but catches her regardless (because he has not once let her fall). she shows her love with cute and silly nicknames, imaginary words and by bragging to everybody she encounters. miya girls must be so tired hearing about her wives for the 10th time that week but the way her eyes sparkle when she brings them up makes it just so obviously that she loves them to hell and back.
nene shows her affection way more quietly. she teases tsukasa and calls him an idiot but makes sure to stay after practice to praise him for good work as she hands him a drink. she might tease him but her love is so obvious in the way she cuddles into his side late at night during a sleepover, console in her hands as he works on a new script. they dont have to exchange any words in between them to know how much they love each other (besides, tsukasa tells her he loves her so openly and the bright pink flush on her cheeks is enough indicator she feels the same.) with rui it's a similar scenario. theyve known each other so long that theyve become a constant in each others lives, so much so that nene can be fully comfortable in rui's pressence at any given moment. i think nene is very embarassed to show affection through stuff like kisses and hugs but when she does the other three make sure to give the same energy back (and more! just where do they get so much energy...) emu is probably the one nene feels the least embarassed about showing physical affection to, maybe because of how often emu is initiating it but nene doesnt mind. how could she when emu's hands always felt so warm in her own?
rui is full of love that he shows through rather unusual but genuine ways. he sends wxs gc a picture of four bugs with a caption "us <3" and a bunch of other shit that gets him an earful from nene and tsukasa and a ton of praise from emu. rui shows his love through making inventions that will help his troupemates, using all of his knowledge to be useful to the ones he loves dearly. it's worth losing sleep over if it means seeing emu's eyes sparkle with excitement as she presses all the colourful buttons he added *just for her*...ah but tsukasa will scold him right? well, he supposes he doesn't mind being scolded a little...he knows very well its coming from the place of good intention. rui shows his love through sticking up for his loved ones when they're facing an obstacle and turning from a sneaky cat to a testy and defensive dog.
to finish this offāwonderlands x showtimes loves each other a lot and i might just be slightly autistic.
The association of stars to Tenma Tsukasa: a discussion
The theme of stars for Tsukasa is rather strange if you think about it for a moment. Yes, he wants to be a star--a world-renown actor, but this theme seems to take shape in an almost literal sense. There's a galaxy motif for his WxS costume, the flag he holds has a star on it, and his focus event is dedicated to him realizing how the piano to him are the stars to Torpe. In all honesty, he seems closer associated with stars and space than Leo/need is at times.
The symbolism of the stars usually loops back to the theme of guidance. The stars were used to guide sailors at sea in ancient times, constellations were used to tell the time of year, and the sun has been used to tell the time through the use of the sundial. Because of this, stars have become a sign of hope for the future and light in dark times. This fits in quite well with Tsukasa's character. He's been shown to guide those dear to him to brighter futures with his advice and positive attitude (e.g. Touya and Saki) and it can also be said that his dream to be a star guides him in his life.
But it is also that presence of darkness, too, that relates to Tsukasa's character. His younger days were filled with worry toward his sister, Saki, and the weight of being a good brother not only for his parents but for Touya as well. Tsukasa has always strived to be a star in their dark times and he wishes to spread this through his acting, hence the creation of WxS.
Yet, another thing irked me when I thought more about this connection. Stars--simply put--are created due to a large amount of pressure, causing elements to fuse together and create energy. Once this energy has run out, the star dies and sends said energy to other stars. The bigger the star, the shorter its lifespan due to energy depletion. This consequently causes what we call a supernova to occur.
Do you see where I'm going with this?
Tsukasa wants to be the biggest star. At first, it seems rather innocent. But if put in a more literal, astrological outlook to it, a darker connotation reveals itself. The larger the star--the brighter the star--the faster it burns out. We already know of Tsukasa's past struggles and how he intends to use those memories as fuel to support his future as an actor after On This Stage of Dazzling Light, but we also don't know enough about Tsukasa to see the entire picture. We're still left in the dark about exactly what strong emotions caused Tsukasa to create a SEKAI all on his own.
Emu will most likely be the next focus event for this group which leaves Tsukasa to be the last one of the group to get their next focus event regarding their latest story arc. Judging by the latest WxS event A Sorrowful Farewell at Curtain Call, I think we can expect some heavier themes to be discussed later on and perhaps a clearer insight into Tsukasa and his connection with the stars.
TLDR: This boy can fit so much possible foreshadowing in him
I know a lot of ppl say to not use Saki for Tsukasa angst and theyāre right! But if you wonder what would be good for Tsukasa angst, a good idea is to read the event stories, card stories, etc and try to read in between the lines. Some ppl find it difficult to do that some some things I noticed was;
- he puts others over himself and is actually really selfless so he tends to take care of others more than himself
- he puts on a facade which makes people think heās a selfish attention seeker but heās just trying to make people happy
- he was left alone for most of his childhood, he lives in a huge house but it was always empty
- he didnāt have many people to rely on growing up, not many friends either
- people think heās weird/loud/annoying so they tend to avoid him at school or public places
- he wants everyone to think heās okay even when heās not because he doesnāt want to be a burden/he doesnāt want ppl to worry about him or make them sad in any way
- he works his ass off and is a perfectionistĀ
Thereās probably a lot more but Iām kinda tired and I wanna watch chainsaw man lol so please comment if you see this and think of any and Iāll add it onto the list!! Also remember that it is a bad thing to use Sakiās illness for Tsukasa angst because her illness is a big deal and not just leverage to make another character seem sadder or have aĀ āmore interesting backstoryāĀ
- also please donāt be afraid to correct me and Ill be sure to fix up any mistakes I made!
- his memory isnāt the best, so he has forgotten things such as why he wanted to be a star and why the dolls he took to Saki when she was a kid in the hospital were important to her. While he does eventually remember/learn why, it doesnāt erase that he forgot. And as someone with depression, forgetting things is something that happens. Sometimes you just want to forget but you forget too much.
- Heās the only other person aside from Mafuyu that created their groupās Sekai by themselves. It brings into question what would have happened if he discovered it by himself. Would he eventually follow her path in wanting to stay there and never leave? Somewhere ideal to him, and if so, would it stay the same? Or would the Sekai change and transform to fit in with what he feels now?
- Speaking of Sekais, is it possible, that the Wonderland Sekai was partially created by Tsukasa as a kid? While I do believe it took full form when heās a teen, I believe it began to take form when he was a kid. Tying this to the empty house and lack of friends, it makes sense that he began to create a world where he had friends and was large but open, rather than large and confining. But tie this in with the memory thing, it wouldnāt be wrong to assume he forgot he made a world up in his head because he felt lonely.
- Probably has the same issue with time that his sister does. Time is going by too fast, he doesnāt have enough time to do the things he wants, the time from his past is disappearing (heās forgetting the past), etc.
