Well, to be precise, Kibum loved to win and Jinki loved to make his friend happy. “Gotcha, bunny-hyung!” Kibum shouted as he pinned Jinki to the ground. “It’s not fair,” Jinki whined as he tried to squirm free. “You’re younger and smaller than me. I should win.” “It’s not my fault I’m the best,” Kibum said and stuck out his tongue. Jinki pouted up at him in response. Kibum stared at him a moment before leaning down and pressing their lips together quickly. They stared at each other with wide eyes. “Why did you do that?” Jinki asked softly. Kibum shrugged and mumbled, “I don’t know.” Jinki stared at the blush on Kibum’s cheeks before leaning up and pressing his lips against Kibum’s, kissing Kibum just as quickly as the younger boy had kissed him. They smiled at each other for a moment before their mothers came in the room. “KIBUM!” The younger boy was pulled off of Jinki by his mother. “How many times have I told you not to bully your hyung?” Kibum shook his head vigorously. “I wasn’t! I promise!” Jinki stood up quickly. “It’s okay! We were just playing!” Kibum’s mother stared at them skeptically. “Alright… Kibum, it’s time to go home.” Kibum put on his coat with a pout and waved goodbye to Jinki while his mother pulled him along. Jinki waved back with wide eyes and touched his fingers to his lips. And that was how Lee Jinki remembered his first kiss.

Jinki stumbles into the bathroom, rubbing a fist over sleepy eyes. He isn’t even awake yet, merely mechanically moving through his morning routine. From outside, he could hear his manager nagging Taemin to move faster or they’ll be late for their schedules. Jinki yawns, wondering why they’re even going to the music station when it’s barely morning. he stands in front of the bathroom mirror, forcing his eyes to open properly so he can start washing up and thinking about their schedule. It’s a good thing Kibum woke up early to do some of the chores and get the coffee maker running, even though he spent half of the time he’s awake banging on their doors.

Jinki thinks it’s already reached the darkest part of the night, but in this city at the very heart of the country, there is never complete darkness, not even at night. Everywhere there is light—the rows of brightly burning lampposts that flanked the deserted streets ahead of him, the intermittent dots on building floors that make the towering architectures look like dominoes stacked together, the neon lights over doors of establishments Jinki thinks are shady to still be operating at this hour. It almost makes him sad the sky is never pitch black and he can’t see the stars’ faint shine over the pollution of lights.

But there are things he could still appreciate.
