I thought for a moment today I’d seen you for the last time. It really bothered me that if that had happened our final memory together would have been a fight. I’m really glad that wasn’t the case because… Because I really care about you, Walter.

Maggie nods and sits up as she caught her breath and signed at Walter, ‘I am thirsty. May I have some water please?’

Walter gives a quick nod and walks to the kitchen, returning with a glass of water.

‘Thank you.’ She smiles weakly and reaches for the cup. 'Can you help me hold it please? I might drop it.’

Walter nods and keeps one hand on the bottom of the glass so she won't drop it.

“I don’t have to be Toby to know when something is wrong, Paige.” He watched her carefully, sitting on the edge of the table and swinging his legs, his hands clasped in his lap.

Paige bit back a sigh as she looked over at him, he had picked up quite a few things when it came to emotions and feelings over the last few months. “I was really just thinking,” she then found herself saying. “About a lot of things,”

"Like what?" He slid off of the table and moved to the coffee maker. Walter had been listening to Toby a lot more than he used to in an effort to better understand Paige's emotions.

"Are you sure you're okay?"

   O k a y  was almost as bad as  f i n e  and it wasn´t exactly the word Paige liked to use, especially not right now, so at Walter´s words she simply looked up, shrugging her shoulder. “I was just…thinking.”

“Of course I’m happy.” He looks down at her. “Why wouldn’t I be?” Walter smiles softly and looks back up at the ceiling, finding himself completely relaxed for once. Paige did make him happy, he knew that much.

   “I was just checking,” Paige says with a slight chuckle as she wraps her arm around Walter´s middle, keeping him close. She´s going to take all the affection she´s going to get, especially today. Her lips curl into a smile and her eyes close as she relaxes completely, before eventually dozing off into sleep.

Walter listens to her breathing even out and gently brushes his fingers through her hair. He closes his eyes and lets himself fall into sleep.

“Megan’s perceptive about stuff like this.” Walter shrugs and keeps his arm around her shoulders. “Whether we tell her or not, she’ll figure it out.” He murmurs. “You can tell her if you’d like.”

   “She is, much like me.” Paige lets out a small chuckle, almost melting into his embrace once she knows that he isn´t going to push her away. Paige smiles then, closing her eyes once more before speaking. “Well,  w e  can tell her, though I´m sure she´ll know the moment I show up with you,” Another chuckle. “But…I think it´s good. You´re happy, right? And that´s all she cares about,”

"Of course I'm happy." He looks down at her. "Why wouldn't I be?" Walter smiles softly and looks back up at the ceiling, finding himself completely relaxed for once. Paige did make him happy, he knew that much.

Walter is quiet for a moment, resting his chin atop her head. “I’m going to visit Megan tomorrow afternoon, provided we don’t have a job to do. You can come with me, if you want.”

   At his words, Paige looks up, making out Walter´s features in the dark. She smiles then and nods, knowing that this is a big step, despite the fact that they all know Megan now. Still, neither of them has ever gone to visit her with Walter. “I´d love that, yes.” she then says, keeping her arm wrapped around his middle loosely. “Do you want to tell her? Because I think she might be able to tell,” A small chuckle escaped her lips at that thought.

"Yes." Walter nods. He likes the feeling of her pressed this close to him. "Yes, it is." He murmurs, leaning back against the pillows. There’s no going back now, not that he’d want to.

   The words he speaks make the weight drop off Paige´s shoulders and she simply holds him close for a moment longer, taking in his familiar scent and somehow she knows she´s not going to let go off him anymore. “Good,” Paige then smiles as she closes her eyes, and she knows that they´re taking a risk, that she is a risk for him, but it feels nice to know that she´s worth taking.

Walter cautiously reaches over and hugs her. It’s awkward and a little uncomfortable, but he does it anyways. He knows he needs to listen to her, that everything they’ve admitted to each other is something worth fighting for, but a part of him still hesitates. Paige is right. He needs to take this risk.

   The hug is not something Paige expects, but she takes what she can get, especially when her feelings are on a rollercoaster ride like they are right now. She buries her face in Walter´s chest for a moment, just taking in the closeness and the warmth  before glancing up at him. “I know it´s not easy,” she then says. “But we care about each other…you care about Ralph, and I think this is a risk we should take, so…yes or no?”

"Yes." Walter nods. He likes the feeling of her pressed this close to him. "Yes, it is." He murmurs, leaning back against the pillows. There's no going back now, not that he'd want to.

He visibly flinches at the mention of the boy in the cave. “I tried because it was life or death for that boy.” Walter says quietly. It was quite the touchy subject. “I’m willing to try, Paige, but the odds are that it will not turn out well.”

“Alright.” Paige says, closing her eyes for a moment. “We might not be life or death, us as a couple, but we care about each other and that boy, he was a risk you took. Maybe it´s time to take another risk?” she then asks, looking back at him once more. Paige can feel her stomach do something between twisting and fluttering and she´s trying her best to control it. “I have all these feelings for you…Walter. And…I know you calculate everything, and you´re afraid because you can´t calculate love and feelings, but I know that we´ll be fine. You´re a risk for me too, Walter. But you´re worth taking it,”

   “Walter…” she replies with a smile. “Sometimes…you just have to take risks. Like we do every day when we´re working on these cases. And yes, you can calculate a lot. But you couldn´t know the boy in the cave way still alive and yet you went in, we didn´t know that we would get out of the fire alive or get home from that rescue mission. You didn´t know whether you coulddiffuse that mine and yet you tried.” she squeezed his hand tightly, still keeping it pressed against her chest. “Can we please try?”

   Paige contemplates to pull her hand back, but then she decides against it when Walter relaxes slightly under her touch. “Well there might be risks, but don´t you think that it´s worth taking those risks? That  w e  are worth taking this risk?” she smiles, eventually retreating his hand to take his and press it against her own chest. “We can take things slow, but this heart? I beats for Ralph and for you, only.”
