I don't quite know how to feel about Christmas. All of the songs say it's the most wonderful time of the year, I used to think so too. I guess growing up and becoming an adult has changed that for me. When I was a little girl, I could barely sleep on Christmas Eve's eve because I knew that Santa was coming the next night and that I could leave him cookies and wait up for him. Of course years later I found out that Santa wasn't real and it was just my dad shimmying through the back window in a Santa costume because my house didn't have a chimney. The holiday season always seemed so full of joy and cheer with the snow falling and mistletoe and Christmas carols being sung. Now I'm twenty-two and I've living in California, far away from my family on the other side of the country. No snow, nothing. California was just a different holiday vibe altogether. I wasn't feeling it at all. But, nonetheless, I was in my boyfriend and my house decorating mantle and hanging mistletoe, trying my very best to feel the spirit of Christmas in this god-forsaken state. I had a little help from Nick of course, and also some of our friends who lived close-by. Next, onto the tree! Happy Christmas came on the radio and for a moment it felt like you were back home decorating with your family, you guys would always sing that song as you made your gingerbread house. For that ten seconds that you were feeling nostalgic, you were the happiest girl in the world, but afterwards, sadness hit you like a brick. Quietly, you walked outside. "Babe, where are you going? Are you okay?" Nick asked as you made your exit. "Yeah, fine. I just need some fresh air is all." You were sitting outside on a bench on the porch feeling down when you felt a hand on your shoulder. You looked up to see that it was Nick with a bright red circular nose on top of his own. "Trying to be Rudolph, huh," you said sadly. "Trying to cheer you up, anything to cheer you up. I know this is your favorite time of year and it's your first time spending it here in California and it's different than how you imagined it and I'm sorry love." "Eh, It's just a silly holiday Nick, no big deal." "If you love it, then it's a big deal and I know for a fact that you love Christmas, so...we will now commence the next part of Operation: Make It Feel Like Christmas and Cheer Y/N up. Hit it guys!" The next thing you knew, that Alvin & The Chipmunks song, "Christmas Don't Be Late" was blasting through the house and onto the porch. Your friends came out in a line, bopping from side to side in a not-so-graceful way. You couldn't stop yourself from laughing. They were even wearing silly costumes: snowmen, elves, reindeer. It was a mess, a big hilarious mess. "There's that smile I love. Feel like Christmas yet honey?" Nick walked over to you, a little out from breath from participating in the surprise performance. "Yeah, definitely getting there. Only thing missing is the snow, but that's okay. I love it!" "Oh, well we can't have you 'almost feeling like Christmas', you gotta be all the way there babe. SO, for the third and final step..." Nick pulled out a little remote from his sweater. "Let it snow," he pushed a button and then the magic happened. Little white flakes started flurrying down from the roof. "What? Nicholas, how did you do that?" You were completely confused but also completely in love with the man standing in front of you. "Not that it matters, but I hooked a few machines up on the roof, just a little something something, nothing special," he grinned from ear to ear. "No, very special. It feels like Christmas now, thank you baby this is exactly what I needed!" You gave him a quick peck on the cheek. You looked around and saw your friends running on the lawn dancing in the "snow". "Anything for the woman I love. I just want to you be happy and know that I will always do my best to make you smile, I'm in love with you and my job as best boyfriend in the world is to see that smile on your face as often as I can. Now, let's go make fake snow angels!" He gave you a passionate kiss and took your hand in his as he ran down the steps and laid down on the grass. It finally felt like Christmas.
