Time for you to change your mind! @alwayscute 🤭
Mommy @victorialicious said I’m good at this! Hehe, I hope everyone likes this one ❤️✨
So… are you going to say them?
Perfection 🤍
Budding caption writers would do well to study @emma-says content. This is a particularly good example of her work. Top 5 takeaways for me are:
1. Model and pic selection. She's chosen an easily identifiable LGBTQ+ friendly celebrity dommy mommy figure for this one. As well as being a sure-fire way to drive up engagement numbers with the sissy stans, it neatly underlines something central to the setup: Anna Taylor-Joy is out of your league. It is immediately obvious and understood by the reader they are never going to be with her romantically. This is relatable to those with an Anna Taylor-Joy equivalent in their own lives. AJT's expression is enigmatic and neutral - is she bemused, annoyed, shocked, surprised? It gives the picture lots of potential to be captioned in a number of different ways.
2. Perspective. You were both sharing an intimate (albeit platonic) rooftop moment. The way the picture is framed and the fact that for you the background is out of focus and she is central, suggests you were experiencing the moment differently; She was looking at the exotic view, you were looking at her. That her hips are still turned to the view and she's looking back at you conveys movement and dynamism. Whatever has happened to pull her focus from the view has just happened. This sets up nicely for it being something she heard, or as Emma will suggest, something you have just said.
3. Messaging. The view, the perspective, the impossibly glamorous and unavailable girl you're obsessed with, sets the scene. Emma then builds on this to convey a dynamic, a backstory and a moment of profound change to that dynamic using just 21 words and 3 lines. Line 1 is the setup - including explaining how you would even find yourself on a rooftop sharing a moment with someone like this in the first place - 'you've been friends for years'). Line 2 creates the tension. Line 3 is the release, which in this case is a cliff hanger ending. It is masterful short form story writing.
4. Font. The style is simple and elegant, like the outfit. Emma wants you to immerse yourself in the moment and focus on what she thinks is important, not be distracted by multiple different fonts and sizes and colours. Font colour is matched to the white/cream of the outfit and buildings, with just a little more pop to make it stand out without the need for a heavy border. The 3rd line is bigger and in bold for emphasis and the big finish.
5. Kerning. The flow and order in which the words and lines are to be read is clear and natural; your eyes aren't having to dart around the picture to try and follow the thread. The blocks of text are spaced so they are legible and uncluttered and are consistent in leaving AJT's face and body clear, which isn't always possible in a caption but is nearly always more aesthetically pleasing when achieved.
Watch and learn, kittens. Emma really is very very good.
What incredibly generous and thoughtful compliments! Thank you so much! ☺️
