handstands on the shore

the quiet sureness of being here

of quietly being

i listen to the water as the waves hit the shore

i dig my feet in the sand

spread a palm full of mud down my shoulders

my skin feeling softer now

a wave of calm washes over my head

i am grateful for the sun

i am grateful to watch the shadows of my friends as they dance for her

i am grateful for the quiet

in my head

a kind of peace

i rarely get

i do handstands on the shore and maddy is cheering me on with a beer in her hand

she rolls tobacco smokes

she cuts me a piece of watermelon
