I believe it was do with possible differences between ‘normal’ demons and the ones associated with Jonathan Morgenstern. Also the possibility that greater demons are working with Morgenstern and if they are then who. Though to be honest I’m not entirely sure why they would choose me to help with this kind of stuff. I’m the best researcher.”

“Of course you are.” Ophelia wasn’t entirely surprised the Nephilim gave her an ineffective partner, but it still seemed like an odd decision to make when the assignment was such an important one. “Well, all those questions are important ones, but they’d be answered best through fieldwork. Does the Clave have any specimens in their possession?”

“I strike you as someonewho appreciates the classics? What’s that supposed to mean?”

“Do you object to that description?” Ophelia inquired, teasingly. “I find I that I can trust my impressions of people.”

“I’ve dabbled in different styles over the years. I’m currently experimenting with Cubism and Abstract Expressionism but my favourite still probably has to be academic style, the neoclassical and romantic style are timeless.”

“Well, I can hardly argue with that. You do strike me as a man who appreciates the classics.”

“I can play, composition is something that escapes me. I’m a much better painter than a musician. Either way, it’s still a good exercise in relaxation.”

Seeing the warlock approach Dimitri quickly stood up to greet her, his parents’ teaching well ingrained, he gave her a brief but genuine smile. “Yes, Ophelia, right? Pleasure to meet you.”  He sat back down after a moment pulling his chair close to the table forcing him to sit up right. “I didn’t know if you wanted me to collect any books or anything like that?”

“Likewise,” Ophelia replied, giving him a brief smile in return. Taking a seat opposite the Shadowhunter, she shook her head. “No, it shouldn’t be a hardship to find what we need. Did they tell you precisely what it is they’re trying to research? Demonology is a rather wide topic.”

Dimitri reluctantly pulled open the library door, his head was splitting which he could normally work through or use a rune on but not today. Because today he had to research. Dimitri understood the importance of research, knowledge was power and all that jazz, but the idea of sitting in the library all day bugged him. With a sigh he threw himself into one of the chairs and waited for his partner to join him.

Normally, Ophelia would be disinclined to do as the Nephilim asked without pay — but she had been intrigued by the opportunity to explore the Institute’s library and had agreed with only some reluctance. Walking in, she glanced around until she saw the seated Shadowhunter. “Dimitri Highsmith, I assume?”

“It’s something it Ifind relaxing,” Caleb said with a slight shrug of his shoulder, “It’s somethingthat you can lose yourself in doing, which is on occasion a soothing thing todo.”

“Yes, I find I have a clearer head in the end. And composition is an agreeable pastime as well, in my experience,”

When Lia chose to take advantage of the decree and ‘join’ the Shadowhunters, she vaguely wondered how long before she would regret it. She now knows it’s almost immediate. The Institute is annoying bright with its lights and she swears, the first person to call her the somewhat derogatory 'Downworlder’ name will get knocked off their high horse and then beaten with said horse. She honestly hates being called that above all else.

With her duffel bag over her shoulder, she casually walks through the Institute. “Do I actually get a room, or do they stick us in a pen for 'precaution’? Either way, I want to drop my bag and eat something.”

Ophelia was striding to the Institute’s door when someone addressed her. Turning to glance at the faerie who spoke, she raised an eyebrow. “Ask the Nephilim in that office about the room, the kitchen is down that hall, and the floor might suffice for your bag.” She gestured in the direction of the Institute’s office, and then to the dining room.

“I guess for warlocks, practising your craft and expanding it is a lifetime pursuit,” he said with a nod of his head before wincing to himself, “I play piano at most but I don’t practise enough to be much good.”

“It is, there’s always something new,” she agreed. “The piano is a rather...soothing instrument to play, I find.”

“I prefer the phrasingdown to an art,” he said with a slight shrug of his shoulder. “Contrary topopular belief, I don’t spend all my time plotting murders. Painting is anotherpassion of mine, I like to study it and practise it. What about yourself?”

“Oh? Fair enough,” she replied. “My travels and my study of magic occupy the majority of my time. And I have always had a keen interest in music.”

“Oh, I imagine you have it down to a science, by now,” Ophelia leaned back in her chair. “But do tell, how else do you get your kicks? Even a man with your proclivity for violence must have other hobbies.”

Freya was changing the soil in her flower pots in the greenhouse. She had been ecstatic to discover it during one of her early explorations and had brought some plants from work to grow for herself.  She was too busy focusing to notice someone else walking in until she dropped her trowel and saw their feet picking it back up. “Oh hey, I didn’t realise anyone else came up here”

Ophelia didn’t love the Institute, but even she had to admit that the greenhouse was nice. She had always liked plants, and it was one of the places least likely to have other people in it. That wasn’t the case today, though, as she spotted a faerie gardening, giving her a small smile in greeting. “Neither did I, to be honest. I can leave if you’d like.”

“Now, that is something I can appreciate in a person. If not it does make it all the more worthwhile.”

“Yes, it can make up for the inconvenience of having to deal with a pest in the first place.”

“I knew smelling salts were a thing but fainting couches? Seriously, and somehow no one realised that it was a bad idea to lace them that tightly?” she questioned with a slight arch of her brow. Listening to Ophelia, she nodded her head slowly and looked at the headpiece that the warlock was wearing. “Your tiara is beautiful though.”

“In the later years of the era, during the rational dress movement, yes. Although the supposed ill effects of corsets were actually exaggerated quite a bit,” Ophelia explained. “Thank you.”

“I can’t even begin imagining what wearing a proper corset,given that I don’t like to get dressed like this,” Artemis said with a laugh, shakingher head sympathetically at her roommate. “I have no idea what a kokoshnik isbut the idea of it sounds heavy enough.”

“Well, you’re not missing out,” she replied, dryly. “There’s a reason smelling smalts and fainting couches were so popular amongst the Victorians.” Ophelia motioned to her head. “It’s a traditional Russian headdress, although what I’m wearing is really a tiara in the shape of one.”
