There was an experiment a professor did. I think it was pottery students. He did an experiment of “quality” vs “quantity”. One half of the class he told; you have to make as many pots as possible. Good pots, bad pots, shitty pots, whatever. The more pots you make, the higher your grade.

The other half of the class were told, “you can make only one pot”. But that pot had to be perfect. The quality had to be high; the highest quality pot would get the best mark.

But when it came to the grading, they noticed something weird.

All the best quality pots were in the ‘quantity’ group.

The guys who were literally churning out pots, trying to make as many as possible, not concentrating on the quality. But every pot they made, made them better at making pots. By the end of the month (I think it was a month) - they had some pretty awesome pots coming out, because they enjoying finding all the ways and all the things they could do to make all their pots. Where as the ‘quality’ guys had spent their time reading up on pots, and technique, and researching and planning; which was all great but they’d had no further practice at actually making pots.

The best way to get really good at something, the only way to be really good at something, is to make lots of shitty attempts at that thing several of which will fail. If all you create are perfect things then you won’t improve, because how can you improve on perfect?

Knight Rider Winter Headcanons

Winter is K.I.T.T’s favorite season. It may be frigid and icy but it’s calm. That silence and quiet peacefulness that comes with Winter is something I feel he would like. He also strikes me as someone who appreciates the pristine condition of newly fallen snow and if human would be the kind of person to avoid tarnishing a blanket of snow with footprints.

I also feel that KITT likes the aesthetic of ice. Pristine crystalline perfection that coats nature in a brilliance that preserves it in time. Sleek and dazzling, magnificent and fascinating yet incredibly dangerous when underestimated. In a way akin to him, minus the cold and harsh aspects of its nature since KITT himself is anything but cold.

The nature of snowflakes would be another thing he would find intriguing. How the same natural makeup of hydrogen and oxygen can create completely unique patterns that will never repeat; he would find something so simple utterly fascinating. Maybe he even has a folder set aside where he logs the different patterns of snowflakes to see if he finally finds an exact pair. Also this would be his own secret little thing, it’s hard to explain how interesting snowflakes are to humans who overlook them as trivial.

KITT wouldn’t be one to participate in snow ball fights (willingly, Michael forces him in when he decides to dash behind the TransAm as a shield). However, he does enjoy watching others duke it out finding it interesting how fun can be had with spheres of snow. I also think he would simply be happy in watching others having fun. He would also totally root for Michael while staying outwardly neutral on who he wants to succeed.

I think KITT’s ideal winter scene is an undisturbed blanket of snow covering everything, with a frozen lake, maybe some icicles along barren tree branches, complete stillness with no animal calls, and a soft snow fall. All while keeping his cabin warm and toasty. The perfect way to just empty your mind and relax.

Fire and Ice is low-key my favorite fic series ever! I think I just like the Nick MacKenzie and Karr dynamic. Wasn't a huge fan of the whole slash thing but the overall writing is just amazing!

This has probably already been discovered and is nothing new, but in Stranger Things Chapter 1, at the very beginning when Mike is asking his mom for more time to play D&D he goes to his Dad hoping he'll take his side. Mike's dad is too busy fixing the antenna on the TV and what show is he watching?!?!?! KNIGHT RIDER!!!! I've watched the show like twice and have been looking for a Knight Rider reference and there it is! In the very first episode! Can't believe I missed it.
