benjamin and belle

They're one of my favorite ships we've ever written, bar none. Furthermore, they're one of my favorite ships, ever, period.

I love the ways we found to reinvent the beauty and the beast trope. I love the way Belle supports Benjamin through his inner darkness, and the way she makes him a better, softer, brighter version of himself. I love the way Benjamin pushes Belle, and gets her to believe in herself and her talents in ways that she may have otherwise been uncomfortable to do so before.

I love their first meeting, the romance of it all and the rose, and the legacy that the rose has played in their relationship. I love how open and honest they are with one another, and how they've learned to communicate more and more with time. I love how much they've changed, together and independently, while still being who they've always been. I love that they challenge each other and believe in each other.

I love their partnership, in business and romance and friendship alike. The way they trust each other and respect each other and value each other's ideas and contributions. The way they can talk about their most difficult experiences, and never once blink in the face of learning new painful truths about each other.

I love the future that we have planned for them, that they're only now starting to plan for themselves. I love their love. I love them. And I can't wait for everything to come.

3. Who takes longer getting ready? -- Belle. She's generally low maintenance, but very girly that way. Especially if there's an event or they're going someplace fancy.

5. Who falls asleep while watching a movie? -- I feel like this is a toss-up--and situational. If I think about it, I would say Belle does it more often, but they both do for sure.

11. Who rearranges the bookshelf/DVD shelf in alphabetical order? -- Benjamin. He likes to be able to find things easily. And also, a nerd. His library that Belle still has yet to see is super organized.

13. Who points out a dog when they see one? -- Belle. Especially with puppies and small breeds.

17. Who carries all the important documents while traveling? -- They trade off every other trip. They each hold their own passports, though.

21. Who’s clumsier? -- ... Benjamin Adams. He's generally very careful, but definitely has his clumsy moments.

27. Who cooks at 2 in the morning? -- If they're not in bed at two in the morning, then they're both in the kitchen. If they're just getting in and they're hungry, Benjamin takes the lead so Belle can get comfortable first before they settle in to eat.

30. Who likes doing the dishes? -- Benjamin. Sometimes he needs idle time to think. Overall, he enjoys chores like that.

32. Who remembers what the other one always orders at a restaurant? -- They both do. They also know each other's tastes well enough to surprise them with different dishes for when they want to try something new.

39. Who leaves little notes in the other one’s lunch? (Bonus: What does it say?) -- BELLE. Mostly they're just silly doodles or "I love you." Sometimes it's just something simple like, "have a good day." They work together quite often, though, so she doesn't always get the chance to do it. But she will leave notes for him in the kitchen if she had to get an earlier start, and I would say he'd probably do the same for her...

44. What are their nicknames for each other? -- Belle calls him "Ben," but she doesn't overuse pet names or anything. I wouldn't say Ben outright has a particular nickname for her that we've specifically made canon but he does call her "my love" a lot.

50. Who gets overwhelmed by small acts of kindness? -- Belle, 100%. Not to say Benjamin doesn't, but small acts of kindness are something that touches Belle very deeply, and she can't hold back her emotions.

12. Who does the hands-over-the-eyes “Guess Who” thing? -- MADISON.

16. Who reminds the other to put on sunscreen before going to the beach (or pool)? -- I think they're pretty good at reminding each other, but that's not to say Madison doesn't tease Matthew about it, because he's so pale.

19. Who puts their cold hands/feet on the other? -- Madison. She hates her hands and feet being cold, and Matthew is more than happy to help her stay warm.

22. Who texts more often? -- I feel like this is an even split. When they're not together, Matthew sends good morning / goodnight texts and checks in throughout the day (and vice versa). But because they also work together there's not too much of a need for texting.

29. Who licks the spoon when they’re baking brownies? -- I think Madison. Matthew is more likely to steal cookie dough and lick the spoon when it's cheesecake batter. He'll also sometimes steal from any toppings that are laid out and waiting, but he always measures out more to replace it.

31. Who has bigger cravings? What are they? -- I would say Madison has bigger, more frequent cravings. Sometimes it's for cookies, other times it's for the sweetest, creamiest iced coffee available and right away. Sometimes she craves alone time, or walks in the park or the longest bath. #justmadisonthings

33. How do they eat ice cream? What’s their favorite flavors? -- If they're not eating straight out of the carton and sharing, then it's in big bowls. Madison loves anything chocolate based, and is a sucker for ice creams that have mix-ins/toppings (like moose tracks or rocky road). Matthew loves coffee, black cherry, and butter pecan flavors, but he also enjoys more adventurous flavors like the ones that Ben & Jerry's offer (Cherry Garcia and Chunky Monkey). He always keeps some traditional vanilla in the freezer, though, because you can add anything you want to it, and sometimes nothing beats a really good vanilla ice cream.

34. Do they go on dates? What are they like? -- Yeah, though not that often. Since their days are so long, they just want to relax in the comfort of their apartment. When they have time off, though, they make the most of it. They prefer to keep things lowkey and eat at local places, going for walks or to Magnolia bakery afterwards to grab some treats for dessert, but he's taken her to a few fancier restaurants, definitely.
