Otherworldly Reconstructionism ABRIDGED Ebook available now!
I have some very exciting news for everybody. For the past couple of years, Iāve been experimenting, chipping away at a project that Iāve tried to keep very quiet about for numerous reasons.
Now, Iām not done, not even necessarily close to being so, because I realize that many other people on here are interested in this sort of magical, cultural, and creative endeavor, but before I have only really ever seen disconnected individual experiences and no real how-tos.
This isnāt the sole answer. Nor will it ever be. Part of the reason I decided to release an abridged version is because I realize how little information on the subject there is out there, and by doing this I hope to spark more interest, discussion, and understanding around the topic.
I am also opening up the floor to ideas, feedback, people who have independently done similar things and how they went about it, etc. Iāll figure out more formalized ways to collaborate with people if I decide to accept articles or wholesale contributions. However, please keep in mind that as this is still my work, I have the final say on what makes subsequent cuts in the full edition.
With all that said, and with no further adoā¦
Hereās the download link on Mega.
And before you ask me what this symbol is? Maybe read the document ;)

I'm confused, what's wrong with calling yourself a kinnie? I started calling myself that bc of shitposts. Is it bad?
Itās derogatory and started by a troll, for one, secondly it shows a lack of care for the fact that this is a serious identity, and thirdly it honestly just sounds fucking stupid. Itās one thing to make jokes at your own expense on occassion and have fun with things (because this isnāt just ALL work and seriousness) but Iād hope that people have far more respect for themselves and this phenomenon/identity than that. Basically, it makes you look like a memey tumblr kid who has no personality outside of what this hellscape decides is funny and is the quickest way to get me and many other community members to stop taking you seriously.
Anyhow, this blog is kinda defunct so please direct all further questions to @ranthimi since thatās where Iām operating from nowadays within the community on here.

So. Iām running low on content to reblog and interact with, but there are many, many, MANY things I very much hate about the community for a variety of reasons, but I want more anyhow. So, would you mind reblogging this if:
You identify as nonhuman/otherkin(d)/therian/fictionkin(d) (of the actual involuntary sort, if you call yourself a kinnie fuck off) and DO NOT ASSOCIATE WITH OR SUPPORT THE GROUP ALT+H
You are pro-ship/pro-fiction/anti-anti/generally understand the differences between fiction and reality
You donāt think fictionkin(d) are just experience-taking and/or are all inherently psychological
You actively post community-related content, especially if itās on the spiritual, creative, or experiential end of things
Thank you~

Voltereith mitereithei olsen col mitereik, und soke'eith secoackareth esthel miterk. Aisere suel miterei col mitereik coler? Translation: I need to speak more about my language, and I see you really like languages. Do you know where I can talk about my language? Heh, that is, do you know of a community for this sort of a thing? (Is recon the term for a remembered conlang? I just stumbled on this blog.) I tried joining normal conlang communities but they don't seem too open to spirituality.
Hey! I absolutely do like languages, and while I donāt know about specific community spaces on tumblr or elsewhere dedicated to remembered languages (recon, by the way, is shorthand for otherworldly/fictional reconstructionism, of which remembering/creating languages is only a small portion!) but itās a shame to learn that conlang communities arenāt accepting of that sort of thing, because theyāre helpful resources.
We do take submissions and kind of sort of have the tagĀ ānonhuman cultural exchangeā you can post in to share that sort of thing, but itās a bit more static than active discussion, which is what it looks like youāre most interested in.
Iām (unfortunately) still on semi-hiatus a lot of places due to personal stuff, but I do help moderate a spiritually-based Discord server that is more than open to discussion about this sort of thing, you can fill out the app found here:Ā @othersoulsondiscord if you meet all the criteria.
Other than that, I do feel like there should be, in general, a bigger presence with this sort of thing in the community, and maybe some of our other followers know more than I do on that front.

Make a conlang or conscript for your species or culture. If you already have one, make a variation or make one based on another species, culture, or group you remember.
Well, hereās activity one from @othermagic prompt challenge.
As you can probably already tell, I chose my life as Snufkin for this particular prompt, primarily because I havenāt delved too much into this life yet and I thought that now is as good of a time as any to start studying that life more intensely.Ā
A few key things of note;
In my life as Snufkin, there were many, many Snufkins, and we lived as nomads of a sort, forever wandering the world, sometimes in groups of three or four, but usually alone.
Snufkish worked similarly to romance languages such as Spanish, in that a sentence such asĀ āthe blue houseā would translate intoĀ āthe house blueā.Ā
Snufkish, unlike romance languages, had few gendered words.
Music was the most common form of Snufkin art, mostly in the form of medieval style flute and guitar music. Not related to the language, just thought it was a cool fact.
Introducing Other Souls Network v2.0!
What Is Other Souls Network?
Other Souls Network is an 18+ Discord server for people with spiritual alterhuman experiences to discuss these experiences in an environment that promotes mutual understanding, introspection, and personal growth. We aim to be a space for both serious discussion and lighthearted chatter with those who share similar explanations for their experiences.
As psychological and neurological explanations for otherkin and alterhuman experiences have become increasingly mainstream, there are fewer spaces devoted solely to spiritual and metaphysical alterhumanity. We firmly believe in the value of options: spaces for different kinds of people to come together, and also spaces where those who have specific kinds of experiences can discuss them together. This is intended to be the latter, but those who experience multiple kinds of nonhuman experiences, or who are still exploring possible explanations for their experiences, are welcome.
What can I expect if I join?
Right now we are a largely freeform server, without scheduled meetups. We often discuss different types of spiritual experiences, magical theory, relationships with canon (for mediakin), the intersection of physical or mental illness with metaphysics, what we had for dinner, and the weird questions that keep us up at night. We have a questioning channel for folks who are exploring new possibilities, but it is strictly optional. Our creativity channel features artwork and fiction posts from members. Humor and off-topic discussions are welcome.
Who might not find this space helpful?
Those who believe in a strictly psychological or non-spiritual otherkin or plural experience are not likely to benefit much from membership. Those who believe in p-shifting, the fall of the veil and other, similar topics will likely not find an audience here. Those who are not comfortable with any questions about their beliefs will likely be uncomfortable. White supremacists, Nazis, TERFs and so on are unwelcome and will be banned.
Whatās the process for new members?
If youāre interested in joining, go ahead and fill out the form here. Youāll get an invite to look over the rules, post an introduction and chat a bit in the welcome room so we can answer any questions that you have about the server. If we have any concerns, weāll bring them up at that point as well, but this is mostly a troll deterrent.
What are our future plans?
We recognize that there is a need for smaller spaces in the community that is not currently being met, and our current goal is just to help encourage that and give people who identify as otherkin, mediakin, and / or plural a place to discuss metaphysical and spiritual topics and implications as well as chat. Individual server members have their own, related projects for the community, which we aim to encourage and support. If youāre looking for people to cheer you on and bounce ideas with while you build resources and write essays, weād love to have you.
Hello everyone! Welcome to a very unique installment of my annotated bibliography series!
You may or may not have heard of otherkin, therianthropy, and related concepts. Defined loosely, these terms tend to refer to people who have a sense of identifying as something other than human on a spiritual level.
Iāve mentioned a few times on this blog that I, myself, am an otter therian. I discuss this in detail here, so have a look at that post if youāve no clue what Iām talking about.Ā
It can be hard to find useful, sensible writings on the otherkin or therianthropy phenomenon, both today and historically. While non-human identities have had a place in many cultures worldwide throughout time, this can be hard to learn about if youāre not in academia.Ā
Beyond that, there just arenāt a lot of published works about the modern otherkin community, either!
In this article, Iāve compiled a sort of reading list for therians, the therian-adjacent, and anyone else who may be interested in nonhuman spiritual identities.
This is not a ārecommended readingā list. Instead, it includes all the books Iāve personally read that either mention otherkin and therianthropy, or are otherwise pertinent to the topic.
For the sake of completeness, Iāve included some books which, while relevant and perhaps influential, I wouldnāt personally recommend. Conversely, some of these books are excellent.
While I wonāt be assigning star ratings to these books, most are followed by short descriptions as well as my general thoughts on them.
Iāve divided this list into three parts. The first focuses on otherkin phenomena in general. The second lists more distant, outside perspectives that mention otherkin the otherkin community.
The third section is focused on general animal and shifting-related magic. I include those books because, while not all otherkin practice any sort of magic, most of my readership on this blog likely does. It is a witchblr, after all.
General Otherkin Information
A Field Guide to Otherkin, by Lupa. The author of this book, Lupa Greenwolf, originally identified as a wolf therian herself. Later on, she concluded that her experiences fit better with totemism than therianthropy. This book collected a lot of first-hand experiences from the otherkin community, though, and is still worth checking out.
The Book of Satyr Magick: Otherkin Shamanic Sorcery, by Lotuswolf Satyrhorn.Ā This one, though it has āotherkinā in the title, seems to have been written by someone who doesnāt quite grasp the concept. Considering several parts are devoted to picking (yes, as in choosing) a ākintype,ā I would say this book is mostly geared towards witches interested in astral shapeshifting rather than actual otherkin sorts. The author just seems to use the word āotherkinā as a catch-all for non-human interaction out-of-body.
Earth Angels, and Earth Angel Realms, by Doreen Virtue.Ā These two books were written back prior to Doreen Virtueās conversion to evangelical Christianity. While neither use the term āotherkin,ā they describe the same phenomenon using the term āearth angel.ā Very New Age, with an emphasis on eschatology, positing that āearth angelsā are here to save the world or something.
The Psychic Vampire Codex, by Michelle Belanger. Covers the concept of the psychic vampire as understood in the modern alterhuman community. As a witch, I will often recommend this, and other Belanger books, to those interested in picking up energy work. This book in particular gives a good foundation for manipulating and sensing energy, regardless of whether you consider yourself a psychic vampire.
The Magic of Shapeshifting, by Rosalyn Greene. This is really an awful book, and I cannot recommend it one bit! Some in the therian community claim that the author plagiarized existing therian sites when writing. To me, thatās not even the main issue and it honestly reads like the author fabricated a lot of what she wrote just to sound interesting and mystical. She also seems to believe in physical shapeshifting, for reasons never well-explained.
Outside Perspectives
The Veilās Edge, by Willow Polson. A sort of dark, yet New Age volume, this contains a small section on otherkin near the end. It situates us as āguardians of the veilā and, like Doreen Virtueās work, argues that otherkin are on a mission of sorts here on earth.
Not in Kansas Anymore, by Christine Wicker. This Ā book is essentially a journalistās account of skipping around the country, gawking at āweirdosā like witches, otherkin, and therians. Very, very sensationalist, but contains a bit of a snapshot of the alterhuman community in the mid-2000s.
Your Next Door Neighbor is a Dragon, by Zack Parsons. Purports to be the experiences of the author as he goes on a journey to investigate internet subcultures. Most of it seems to be fictitious, though, and plenty of things mentioned in the book definitely never happened. Notable because Parsons creates a couple of otherkin characters (likely not based on real people) to project his own view of our community onto, and two chapters focus on them.
Animal Magic
Fang and Fur, Blood and Bone, and Engaging the Spirit World, and alsoĀ DIY Totemism, all by Lupa.Ā Lupa, as mentioned above, isnāt a therian, but she is one of the best authors out there when it comes to animal-related magic and mystic practices. Of note: DIY Totemism actually includes advice and a ritual for finding/connecting with your theriotype. The rest will probably only interest those who are pagans or animists, but they give interesting contexts for animal-human spiritual connections either way.
The Art of Shapeshifting, by Ted Andrews. This is supposed to be a book about learning to connect with animal spirits. It does a tolerable job of explaining some of the basics of meditation, invocation and other practices. Mostly, though, the author focuses overly-much on dancing, and argues that only those who dance can truly be shifters (rather than just ādabblersā). A lot of it is appropriative or tries to pass off the authorsā unverifiable personal gnosis as indigenous lore.
Witches, Werewolves, and Faeries, by Claude Lecouteux. This is a dense academic tome packed with medieval (and earlier⦠and laterā¦) accounts of shapeshifting, astral projection, animal identities, and more. Itās not an easy read and probably youāll have an easier time if youāre accustomed to reading academic works. Some of the historical anecdotes are interesting in an otherkin context.
I hope you found something new to read amidst this list!
Iām not including any books about past lives outside of the usual otherkin-related repertoire. Such books are certainly applicable to many of us (therians, etc), but I plan to make a separate bibliography specifically for past lives, so stay tuned for that.
If youāre interested in seeing previous installments with books on other occult and witchy topics, check out the #annobib tag on my blog!Ā Also, if you click the links above to purchase any of the books on Amazon, I get a bit of pocket money from their affiliate program, which is cool.Ā
