Sticks and stones may break my bones, but words will never hurt me.
Every child hears the silly little rhyme, and as time goes on, every child learns that is a lie. Now this may be me just letting off steam, but I've noticed the amount of bullying that goes on, especially in the RP and fandom part of tumblr. (As Iām not a part of the hipster/business side, idk what goes on there, but this still applies)
Ā Words hurt, I know that as well as anyone, but what most people donāt see, is the effect the words have later. The five pictures above are my legs, with commonly used words to describe people, good and bad. The good ones are in lavender, non waterproof eyeliner and the bad are in black, waterproof eyeliner. Why? Take a look for yourself.
Ā Good words are pretty but they donāt really last in the light of todayās society, being wiped away easily and forgotten. Bad, cruel words stain and smear and donāt come off without a lot of work.
Ā I, myself have been bullied, and I try not to bully others, but even I slip. Too many times have I seen words of hate and suicide encouragement and it hurts me. I canāt help every person in the world and I know it, but I should (nor should you) not have to help people. People should watch their words and not spread hate.
Ā Words hurt. How would you feel if someone came into your life calling you names and telling you to kill yourself? Why does it make it okay to say it to someone else then? Just donāt do it. Think of the stain your spread and how much harder it will be for that person to like themselves.
Ā Remember Thumperās mom. āIf you canāt say something nice, donāt say anything at all.ā Now, if someone needs criticizing or the truth, speak up, but donāt be cruel about it. Think of how you would feel in their situation.
Ā Which leg would you rather see? One stained black? Or one clean and smooth?
