YIPEE!! ive been drawing all my rouges like its the 20s. my au is divorced from time/multiple times at once in a nostalgic way.

also... why are all batmans female villians seductresses??? all of them???? BORING. poison ivy is a local cryptid, harley is a crime jester and catwoman IS a femme fatale cat burgular, but its deeper. is her sensuality just a performance? since shes the only one who knows its false, is her inner truth less real? is she the performer or the choreographer? is it truly false if it starts to become her? shes never had any space to explore her true self, only practice facades for the people in her life.

i think i finally have a mad hatter design! he looks a little young here but this is it :)

the talking crime dog poodle is his service dog marchie (the march hare!). jervis is functionally blind due to his albinism (a trait i gave him after the white rabbit) and needs help kidnapping and brainwashing and the like. since he's a neuroscientist, he developed a device that can scan her brainwaves and interpret them as various prerecorded messages. think those buttons that people train smart dogs to use but automatic.

jervis had a bit of a mental break and uses his knowledge of the mind to create his own wonderland. alice is important, yes, but the real goal is a whimsical disorienting lawless world with a large cast of characters (people he kidnaps). at his worst and most delusional he doesn't understand abduction is bad and you cant just kill people who get in your way.

he's a GENIUS but he's very shy and doesn't communicate well. most people don't know how smart he is. little guy is too short he gets lost between couch cushions....

he's violent and strange and childlike and shows up when you least expect it. the dork squad is canon. he uses he/him pronouns but hes not like a Man or a Dude or really anything at all. jervis is the brains and marchie is the brawn (shes an absolute darling but will bite to disfigure. crime dog. batman lets her go to arkham bc he knows he will not survive the night if he separates them.)

ps. alice in wonderland scared the everloving SHIT out of me as a little kid. that scene where alice cries because she cant find her way home and the cheshire cat shows up? hell no. i was crying tears of HORROR. although i did like when the talking pansies showed up. theyre in the picture if you can spot em ;)

he makes all of them himself based on his current delusion. + matching costumes for his 'friends' (people he kidnapped). hes not really sadistic in it, he thinks they're all having a lovely time. hes very good at avoiding the bat and police, making dresses these nice take lots of time.

a lovely adventure in wonderland...

jervis in my au is obsessed with escapism. he runs from even the most mundanely upsetting things into a fantasy. he creates the costumes, the sets, all of it handmade. he kidnaps random people to play the characters he made, causing psychological damage/amnesia but never killing. he uses his gifts in engineering and neuroscience to control peoples brainwaves, each costume rigged with sensors and pre-programmed cognitive control based on the character.

once all of it is set up, he chooses a person to play alice. in his delusion, this is alice. (but subconsciously, is it him?).

this all takes months of work, especially since he has low usable vision and is usually on the run from the law. good thing his seeing eye dog hates cops! (shes taking a break from her costume in this picture).

me and the guy that i think is possessing me (were actually two fragments of a shared consciousness).

In the headspace, harvey and (unnamed alter called two face by others) look like each halves of the body. they are co-hosts, but two face completely takes over during times of extreme stress or during fights/criminal activity. hes a protector/persecutor alter who has only ever really experienced violence. his whole body is deadened burn scar tissue. harvey looks like he did before the accident. both of them have bad body dysmorphia about the other side of their body when fronting.

his first memory was the accident that scarred him, pain and terror and burning alive. now he has to take care of the body and get revenge, while everyone treats him like an unwanted pest or completely insane. Hes Not Handling It Well! why should he have to protect harvey if harvey only ever hurts him and fights against everything he tries to do!

two face has no memory of his life before the accident, so all of his relationships are with criminals and crazy people and all his skills are crime (he loves cats tho)

harvey has some memories of his life before (he Thinks he has all of them). even still, alexander (another alter who fronted during their teenage/young adult/schooling years) is closer to bruce wayne than harvey. (alexander is a perpetually teenage protector based on bruce, a little emo genderfluid trans girl with a HUGE CRUSH on bruce. they dated without harvey knowing). harvey is confused why bruce cares about him so much, he doesnt remember a majority of their time together (a few clear memories and a lot of distant feelings of friendship)

anyways, harvey is just incredibly not cool to two face. he was the first alter he knew was an alter immediately, and he felt like he was being possessed. all the time loss, dissociation, his voice in his head all the damn time, it was scary. especially when they were both preoccupied outrunning the mob after their career was ruined and they were being hunted by assassins.

harvey had experienced voices and dissociation before, but never this sudden. he always just wrote it off as being forgetful, or having a normal inner monologue.

This is just their characterizations early in the comic. they learn to be kind and cooperative eventually! system communication and integration for the win!

i wanted her to look like an actual jester/harlequin with venice carnival inspirations. she has a very warm color palette and the joker has a cooler one. i wanted to keep her feminine and pretty look but just less... male-gazey. + more vintage for my gothams "out of time" feel.

symptoms of fear toxin exposure: intense hallucinations, psychosis, delusions, mania, panic attacks, temporary amnesia, rage, severe paranoia and mydriasis. increased heart rate, blood pressure, body temp and rapid, shallow breathing. can cause seizures, comas and death without treatment.

the hardest part of trying to make this fear toxin formula is that all the studies on these neurotransmitter based chemicals are focused on helping people. which is great! but im trying to see how norepinephrine can cause extreme stress.
