we had a great time at the brecht on saturday, nibbling on kumquats, sipping mimosas, and suspending our disbelief regarding how much longer you can continue fighting after being hit in the head with a hammer. best of all, we raised $78 for the political prisoner support committee of the malcolm x grassroots movement, specifically for new york state political prisoner herman bell. herman bell is one of the longest-held political prisoners in the united states, serving over 30 years for the alleged murder of two NYPD officers (code for running a free breakfast program for kids; health care programs, such as sickle-cell anemia testing and lead poisoning prevention; legal and political education; and anti-drug activities). you can read more about him and his co-defendants here.
join us next saturday, april 14th, again at noon at the brecht forum for a screening of the defiant ones, to benefit WORTH (Women on the Rise Telling HerStory)!
