Old Xian has made subtle changes on some of the older artworks for the book (mostly faces proportion) but this one is the more intriguing to me because He Tian expression has been modified thus changing the whole meaning of the piece.

See the white line in his eye and the spots under his lips? Those details weren't in the version uploaded on weibo and it's an indicator that He Tian is at the verge of crying. We have yet to know why but the title ("Bitterness") and the description attached to it give us some clues: "They cling tightly to each other, caring about each other and unwilling to be apart. Their thoughts are mixed and unable to be released, like an entangled vortex." There seem to be a lot of tension, some unsaid words and the frustration that comes with them. Maybe is it a separation but they both don't want to acknowledge it, not yet. He Tian is covering his mouth as to prevent him to say something he doesn't want to hear but desire inevitably comes back between them because that's how they work. Guan Shan wraps his lips around his fingers, he's giving in one last time before they're apart and He Tian will indulge him because he wants it so badly too even if it's gonna hurt after.

My roman empire right now is that Uenoyama completely understanding Mafuyu about his past about his trauma with knowing so little about it and never once felling jealous about it like when Mafuyu said that clock looks like Yuki's and when Uenoyama hugged him Mafuyu was about to apologize but then Uenoyama said don't look like you're going to cry alone when I'm with you he didn't even cared about Mafuyu bringing up Yuki all he cared was Mafuyu being okay and knowing he wasn't alone or when they were "fighting" and Mafuyu being scared that he was gonna lose Uenoyama too and saying if we don't talk something bad will happen again and Uenoyama going "I'm so idiot" and hugging Mafuyu tightly and trying to be there for him when things get rough trying to make things easier for him trying to help him heal even if that means completing Mafuyu's dead boyfriend's song and I love him for it Uenoyama deserves much more
