When Ruthven says what happens he doesn't believe it. How could he? There's no way he would kill Vanitas. He was trying to protect Vanitas. And Vanitas wouldn't let himself get killed that easily. And he would never let Noé drink his blood. He said he would kill Noé if he ever tried to drink his blood. So, why? Why was Vanitas on the ground? Why did he drink Vanitas' blood? How did he drink Vanitas' blood?

Ruthven smirking while Noé goes through whatever stages of denial and grief. Noé losing himself, falling to his knees right beside Vanitas' body, trying to shake him awake not believing him to be actually dead. Not believing he was dead because of Noé. In the midst of his searching he notices Ruthven. Raises his head to ask him what the hell happened, why Vanitas is dead, why did he kill Vanitas. That's when he sees Ruthven's face. That's when he understands everything. That's when he decides to either kill Ruthven or himself.
