Thanksgiving 2017

When I left academia 4 years ago, I stored away everything related to it -- the papers I wrote, the syllabi I formed, course evaluations (ugh), archival research, and my books. I didn't want any reminders of what I was leaving behind. I'm bringing my books back into my home and heart today. I think I'll need them as guideposts as I reorient myself in the next few months. These are the ones my heart leapt at seeing again, because at some point in my education they sparked, in turn, rage, joy, and wonder. They opened clearings for understanding and talking about the past, present, and future with my friends and students. My relationship with them today is different, as the time is urgent. But I hope they can help form a strong foundation -- in tandem with my real life relationships -- for directing how I engage politically in the next few months and years.
