Ministry  of Magic Order of the Phoenix

Something that always bothered me but I never see anyone talking about it. In OotP, the gang goes to the ministry to “rescue Sirius” but when they get there the whole ministry is completely empty by the looks of it. We are talking about the hub of the british wizarding world. Their government. The aurors which are basically their entire police force aren’t there when crime can happen at any time, voldemort or no. There isn’t even a stray janitor. Like??? How was it completely empty??? Why was it completely empty??? It never made any sense. Surely as the major government body in wizarding u.k. they would have a skeleton crew or people working late at the very least. So confused.

There’s only 280 Hogwarts Students

So rereading Prisoner of Azkaban and when Harry goes back to Hogwarts and goes up to his dorm the book mentions that there’s 5 beds in his dorm for him and the other boys in his year.

So if you do the math there are 5 boys in his dorm. Multiple that by 2 for the girls in his year, that’s 10 students in one grade in one house.

If you multiple that by 7 for all the years, that’s roughly 70 students per dorm.

Multiple that by 4 for all the houses, that’s 280 students in the entire school. 

Even if for some strange reason Harry’s year, house, and gender is on the lower side of average that’s still not a lot of students. You could maybe stretch it to 350-375.

Now, in the same book the quidditich house cup came down to Gryffindor and Slytherin so, naturally, 3 out of the 4 houses were voting for Gryffindor. The book said, “Behind the Slytherin goalposts, however, two hundred people were wearing green...” 

This implies that there are roughly 800 kids at the school which makes more sense. But it doesn’t add up with there only being 5 boys including Harry in the Gryffindor dorm in his year.
