This is sorta referencing the original pitch for the show with Danny owning a pet owl that was unfortunately scrapped due to the popularity of Harry Potter and films that were being released at the time.

Rowlet also evolves into Decidueye, which gains its half-ghost typing. And look at it's shiny.
