And maybe...it was just never meant to be.
After two failed attempts at âHappily Ever Afterâ if I ever (âifâ is operative word here) marry again there are some rules I will live by.
Never go all in with my heart alone. The heart can be deceitful. It can hide things from plain sight. So, go into any relationship with your eyes wide open.
Counseling. Insist on more than few sessions with the pastor and hit up a counseling service. Some things can be worked through, some can not. Then, well, you can either walk away or decide if itâs something you can compromise on.
Insist on respect. If you are a lady, expect to be treated like one. Your heart and body isnât a play thing. I do not âhook up!â Kelly Clarkson reference. đ
Work as a couple. Just because one makes more money, doesnât mean you donât have equal say in how itâs spent. Donât let money dictate your respect for your partner, if so, then love wasnât on top of your priorities list. Money doesnât keep you warm at night.
Insist on date nights. This gets you away from the hustle and busyness of life and connects you on a deeper level. Children are often used as an excuse for not getting away at least one night a week. Insist on this. Excuses are just that, excuses. Make time.
Be with someone who shares your dreams. Supports you in your journey to better yourself. Loves you, even your faults and accepts your flaws.
A sense of humor. Thatâs goes without saying.
Loves you as you are now. Never be with someone who thinks you should change your physical appearance before they love you. Bodies change and faces grow old. Love in the here and now.
Lastly, the most important of all, a man after Gods own heart. If they donât share this very important aspect and itâs important to you, it wonât change afterwards. #beentheredonethat
These things are not negotiable. Set an expectation and stick to it.

Letting go!
There comes a time when one has to realize that it is best to "Let Go" of the past. Letting go doesn't mean you didn't love with all your heart, that you didn't care...it just means you love yourself enough not to hold onto unrequited love. You are worth so much more than returning to the past that hurt you. Move forward, and trust that God may have allowed one door to close, but he's cracked a window open that holds much better scenery.
