'The most beautiful bookstore in the world' in Venice, Italy. The owner was lovely and allowed me to wander around with my camera one morning to take some photos for tumblr. The books are all in gondolas and bathtubs to protect them from the high tide 'Acqua Alta', that occasionally floods the streets and stores of Venice. x

Recommended Books for the Great Lent

The Bible, specially the Gospels and the psalter. (For example you can Read and listen to the audio bible *here*. There are a lot of versions to read and listen to.)

The Ladder of Divine Ascent by St. John Climacus is the usual read while the Great Lent. (You can find the PDF *here*.)

God’s revelation to the human heart by Father Seraphim Rose is a short and good read. (Also you can listen to it *here* as audio-book.)

Practicing daily prayer in the orthodox christian life by Theodora Dracopoulos Argue is a wonderful book, though just 48 pages long, which gets into the main aspects of prayer, how to create a personal prayer rule and about the need to practise different kinds of prayer.

On acquisition of the Holy Spirit by Saint Seraphim of Sarov. (Get the PDF *here*.)

The Life of St. Anthony the Great by St. Athanasius (Download link for the PDF *here*), as well as The life of St. Mary of Egypt (PDF *here*).

The way of a Pilgrim & The Pilgrim continues his way is a wonderful story by an unknown author who wrote down his experiences and talks with people he encountered while he lived as a pilgrim. (Webpage to read it online *here*.)

Unseen warfare by Lorenzo Scupoli, enhanced by St. Nicodemus and St. Theophan the Recluse, deals with the fights we struggle with the spirits. (PDF *here*.) Recommended by my spiritual Father for you. 

Everyday saints and other stories by Archimandrite Tikhon. Stories of people he encountered and got to know who had spiritual gifts but did not get proclaimed saints. (*Here* you can read selected stories at the official webpage of the book. Also avalilable in russian.)

As good companion to move towards Pascha is The Prologue from Ochrid by St. Nikolaj Velimirovich. Which includes small life’s of saints, a hymn, refelction, contemplation and a short homily for every day. (Read it online *here*.)
