Xigbar opened his eye. He looked down at his hand for moment then stretched it outward. He flexed his fingers, waiting for the familiar tingle of a materializing weapon. The Gazing Eye was summoned in an instant, much to his pleasant surprise.
“Could you stop showing it off already?”
Xigbar glanced over at Aced, whose lips were turned down into a faint snarl. Xigbar grinned smugly at his former classmate.
“What’s the matter? Feeling a little jealous?”
“Tch.” Aced crossed his arms. “As if I would act so immaturely. I simply don’t appreciate that you’re flaunting the master’s weapon around like that. You should show some respect to his memory.”
Xigbar hummed, resting the blade on his shoulder.
“Just admit it. You resent him for playing favorites.”
“Now see here, Luxu!” Aced snapped. “You have NO right to-”
Aced and Xigbar spun around to see Ira, Invi, and Gula stepping out of a corridor of light. Ira glared at Aced.
“We’re not here to argue. We are here to see what fate befell our world after the war.”
Ira gazed at the scenery beyond the small courtyard they were in. Thousands of brilliant white houses were stacked upon each other with windmills in every other corner of the town. Empty gondola lifts roamed freely across the suspended cables that were attached to the tops of buildings, controlled by an unseen electric (or magical) source. Above it all was a clock tower, reminiscent of the one the foretellers used to call home.
“It appears that much has changed during our absence.” Ira lowered his head.
“This world…is no longer ours.”
