16y rachel & 13y warren… they’re Siblings
i truly do not understand how the users on quora are functioning human beings because someone could ask 'what does a dead person look like' and then the responses are like 'well in the marvel universe death is actually represented by thanos'
ep4 warren nathan fight scene is so ridiculous. yah max is too stunned to use her rewind or something but that feels like a cop out. those girls could have handled it if the writers let them. but also it was probably something they planned to be important for warren's character. masculine violence. at the beginning of the game he is marked physically with the black eye, and for every action there's an equal opposite reaction or smth. they are foils. both concerned with male identity but they form themselves and their presentation based off of vastly different influences. both capable of violence, both interested in the grotesque and macabre, but one is a mostly harmless geek while the other is Nathan Prescott.
elaborating kind of... Nathan's understanding of what it means to be a Man is molded first by his abusive father, then by Mark Jefferson. Others have pointed out the way he performs social dominance very thinly to mask obvious fear and insecurity, including lashing out violently and excessively. His continuous use of misogynistic language and his willingness to victimize his female peers is an extension of this. Warren, in turn, categorizes himself as "sensitive" and intellectual. He fills in the social niche of being a Safe and Smart guy, who listens, who cares. But he still possesses masculine anxiety because he views his Male Identity of choice as being less socially valuable. A "beta nerd". His relationship with Max reveals this tension because it turns into concern about whether or not he is romantically viable. He allows Nathan to attack him at the start of the game because it affirms his masculinity to be a physical protector of a weaker person at the expense of his own safety (not that he should have just stood by and done nothing, but he's quick to throw himself into harm's way even after being headbutted), and because a part of him likely believes it makes him more romantically viable to Max. A way to show that he's not completely soft. Later he escalates this by committing violence himself. Once again, his relationship to violence and its connection to masculinity falls in the realm of being a Protector. The "pro-social" inversion of Nathan's violence. However, Warren comes to find that the physical, mental, and emotional reality of violence remains the same regardless of how it is justified socially, and finds himself disturbed and upset by his own actions.
more than a feeling
Will’s eyes are still fixed on the broken bulb. Mike senses his apprehension, and he pokes a finger to Will’s cheek. “Come on,” he drones, turning Will’s head to face him, “it’s cute!” “It’s embarrassing,” Will groans, head plunging to Mike’s shoulder. And — okay. Maybe it’s a little embarrassing, sure, having to explain to the Melvald’s guy why he needs a new light bulb every two and a half weeks, but Will Byers, Mike’s boyfriend — Mike’s boyfriend! — has superpowers, and that's a marvel in and of itself.
Mike never thought that dating Will Byers would result in this many blown fuses.
