A cool fact about Finland

Can we talk about how amazing Moomin is? The original creator Tove Jannson was openly and unapologetically sapphic in the 1940s. Early in life she dated a renowned leftist philosopher, then found her lifelong lover Tuulukki whom she built a cute cottage with on a small island. The show and comics teach children how important it is to give people their space and to understand some people just need alone time. Snufkin is an Anarchist who does crime for the greater good. Snufkin and Moomin are very clearly a coded gay couple. In one of the episodes a police officer says, “of course we dont have guns, they’re too dangerous.” Plus, my fave quote of Tove’s, “I only want to live in peace, plant potatoes and dream!”
