honestly I'm very grateful that I got involved in queer community organizing basically as soon as I turned 18, because that's how I was exposed to other queer people saying things like "I just wouldn't trust a bisexual" and "I don't believe in that privilege stuff" and "I don't like when people act like you have to be a feminist if you're gay," all of which taught me at a very young age the crucial truth that queer people can be very stupid and very wrong
I think there's a pervasive tendency among very young baby queers to get kind of dazzled by being among other gay people for the first time and that combined with the heady drug of the first taste of independence can really make you start thinking of The Queer Community(TM) like it's one big enlightened rainbow utopia but unfortunately we have dipshits and malevolent freaks like every other demographic. Peter Thiel is in here.
my condolences to the people learning that Peter Thiel is gay from this post
The fact of the matter is that I do not want to do it
"do what?" you might wonder. well. [gestures broadly]
when bella didn't want to get married at 18 because she saw how her parents' marriage crumbled and she was opposed to the patriarchal nature of the whole institution, and is bitter about it until the moment she is walking down the aisle, but as soon as she's married she realizes that being mrs. cullen is actually the best thing to ever happen to her and she's immediately ecstatic to have a baby with her husband. the way jacob says "you don't even belong to yourself anymore" about imprinting and is repulsed by the very idea, but then when he imprints he realizes it's actually what he was born to do & nothing could make him happier & he leaves everything behind to live with his mate's family. man once you become aware of the mormon agenda present within the twilight saga it is ALL you're aware of lol

We meant it. Let's work together
This place matters, and our goal is to keep Tumblr thriving for a long time. That means Tumblr has to keep evolving. There are things we know could be better. You probably have a list too. Some of it will be easy to fix. Some won't. That's exactly why we want to work with you.
The Tumblr User Panel will be a group of people on Tumblr who'll work with us over time to give feedback on how this place works today and where it's going. We know we have to earn your trust, and we want to change how we build features and include you more in the process. We’re looking forward to shaping this together.
If you're interested in joining: https://tumblr.survey.fm/tumblr-user-panel-interest-survey
Here's what you probably want to know:
Why a panel instead of just listening to everyone?
We won’t stop reading tags, comments, reblogs, and support tickets, but a panel helps us paint a more complete picture before we build, and go deeper than a reblog thread allows.
Who are you looking for?
A mix of experience levels, devices, countries, posting habits. People who've been here a decade and people who showed up last month.
Will everyone who fills out the survey get in?
No. We're keeping it small enough to have real conversations. If you're not selected, it's because we're balancing across a lot of dimensions, not because your response wasn't good enough. We may expand or rotate members over time.
Will critical feedback affect my account?
No! We want your feedback and criticism, and that will never result in any action against your account.
Can I leave?
Whenever you want. No penalties.
Questions before filling out the survey? Leave a comment.
@staff
Disrespectfully this is NOT it. A vast majority of the response to this suggestion when it originally came up was negative.
Some of the reasons were:
Users felt a panel would result in clique-like behavior, a group of "haves" with influence over how this site runs and "have nots" (a vast majority of the user base)
Lack of transparency over how a panel would be chosen (THIS IS STILL A PROBLEM). This website (along with the CEO...) have a reputation for banning trans people, especially trans women of color, en-mass while allowing actual nazi rhetoric to run wild. You can't ban a ton of trans women and then go into the comments of THIS POST BTW to ask displeased users "who" you should be going to. It is not the job of the user base to do this. This is your job.
Concerns over how personnel on the panel represent tumblr in general. A user on the panel represents tumblr the company. What policies do you have in place if one of those users says something racist, transphobic, homophobic, engages in generally hateful behavior, etc. ? How would that be handled? How would they be removed? Would they be removed? You should have answers because this is general personnel policy and you are basically asking users to be hired for free to do your dirty work.
Why is this website opposed to doing actual market research and surveys of the majority of the user base? Why has the team determined that a panel of select users is necessary? I can't think of any other website app that has increased success and user happiness/enjoyment because of a user panel. User surveys? Yes. If the tumblr team wanted to capture the majority of the user base opinions they could, but choose not to on a regular basis. How does a panel build a more "complete picture" than an actual user-wide survey where you data could be public and compiled for easy visuals?
You lack any foresight into how the general user base would react to those on the tumblr user panel. Tumblr thrives on a non-influencer space. In many ways this sets tumblr apart from other social media websites in the current age and positions it well to gain users disillusioned by more influencer heavy social medias. Any user that engages in the panel is likely to be 1.) blocked 2.) mocked 3.) digitally revolted against. You're asking people to do this for free but there is legitimately no amount of $ this shit hole could pay me to put myself through that as this is my place for fun and enjoyment. Because of this aspect you are very unlikely to get a valuable sample of users for the panel. You are more likely to want those that want attention and status vs those that actually care about the well-being and success of this website.
You say you want to work with the users but a vast majority of such questions, asked again and again and again are NEVER addressed. So maybe its time to walk the walk and address the users legitimate concerns instead of all this blah blah blah.
Tumblr: *comes up with the most convoluted way of getting user input that ignores the majority of users*
The humble user survey: Am I a joke to you?
@staff How are you going to prevent a group of people taking over the panel that have nefarious intentions? We already went through a Russian psyops once, what's stopping bad actors from signing up en masse pretending to be the average tumblr user and then convincing you to implement changes nobody actually wants?
When it comes to chronic illnesses, mental illnesses, and disabilities, I've noticed that a lot of able-bodied people either don't take names seriously, or don't understand and ask you to explain what it is to them.
Now, if you have any kind of disability, you know it's fucking annoying go have people make you explain something over and over again, or have people go "oh, you have X? You mean, like the [awful stereotype] thing?"
So, I have realized recently that being Vague As Shit is great for making people leave you the hell alone.
I have autism and anxiety, and with that comes the symptom of selective mutism. If you don't know what that is, Firefox is free. But I had an episode where I couldn't speak today in one of my classes, and knew I would have to explain it to my partner and probably my professor.
This usually goes with me writing that I can't speak, them asking why, me saying selective mutism, and them asking me what that is. Then I have to painstakingly write out an explanation. And, obviously, I'm tired of this. So I tried something new. When he asked, I simply told him I couldn't speak, and when he asked if I physically couldn't or just didn't want to, I just opened my mouth and unleashed the terrifying, awful, broken stuttering that comes out when I try to speak while mute.
His response was "OKAY OKAY OKAY YOU CAN STOP NOW" and he did not question me for the rest of class, and even explained to the professor what was wrong when she tried to make me popcorn read.
This also works on doctors. When I tell doctors I have PCOS, POTS, or hEDS, they usually hear "oh the crazy women self diagnosis disabilities" and treat me accordingly. So, instead I drop unhinged symptoms until they leave me alone.
"Yes, my last menstrual cycle started on December 12th, 2025 and ended January 28th, 2026." "I have experienced several events where I have passed out randomly, yes." "My hip has subluxated six times in the past week."
It's like in the principles of writing horror. If you name and describe the problem, it's easier for people to minimize and ignore. Don't let them. You live with this fucking bullshit every day. Let your symptoms haunt people. They don't need to know everything about you. Besides, it makes them treat you better than when you give them names.

Something that gets me about Pokemon Pokopia is that you actually find out what led to the setting of Pokopia pretty early on. While exploring the world you find dozens of logs that explain in very clear terms what's going on. But Ditto remains clueless about it no matter how many logs you collect, and cannot offer so much as a theory to Professor Tangrowth and the others.
And then I realized they have no reaction to the logs for the same reason they have no reaction to signs and info board items--
DITTO CAN'T READ.

Parent company Automattic will reportedly sell Tumblr content to OpenAI and MidJourney for training data. Here's how you can opt out.
bwwaaaughhhhhhgggh enshittification continues
this is what you're looking for to opt out!!!
I'm gonna recirculate this again because I had to opt out for the 4th time. It seems like every time there's a major update on the site, they default this back.
You have to do this individually for every single blog if you have multiple, btw. Check your blog settings! Fastest way to do this is on a browser.
