CD06 - GLOOM DIVISION
I wish you all the happiness in the world
Dallon Weekes' baby is finally born and it's a beaut. And one thing he knows how to do, is make funny little sounds that scratch my brain in delightful ways.
A few words on the aesthetic side of this cd: it's pretty. pretty colours. pretty shapes. love that.
I love all the songs dearly, my favourite at the moment is probably DOWNSIDE and my least most favourite would probably be SUNNYSIDE (what does that say about me huh?) but I am interested as to how my relationship with this album will evolve. I only was aware of its release date the day before it came out, I thought we were only getting another single but no no no. I also found out they were putting A LETTER on there and when I tell you I cried in between two maths classes. That song was a pillar of my mental health in 2022-2023. It's absolutely gorgeous, hearing it for the first time fully produced and shit- a shift happened.
also the little song after WHAT LOVE? is lovely and it's quite humorous that the one after it is SPKOTHDVL.
Instead of putting only the lyrics of my favourite song, I compiled DW's notes in the lyrics booklet because I love that guy!
Some lyrics I love from each song (not transcribed in the best way):
I wanna listen to you whisper to me
and with the right last name, you can cut in line, or you could sell your soul if you're so inclined
pale is the moon, pay attention if you're counting stars 'cause mephistopholes would love to leave you scars
lord help me, I think I'm gonna cry
are you hoping that it's just pretend?
how I failed but oh how I tried
in your THOUSAND dollar dress
oh, nobody needs to know what we do, where we go, or who with, so just mind your own business.
[redacted]
project your damnation, that's entertainment
play through the pain & ignore what's creeping, someday we're all going to die.
it doesn't matter what you think of us (but you still think of us)
It's a great album. I hope iDKHOW is very proud of it.
CD05 - Prequelle
This is the moment of just letting go
Prequelle is the red Ghost album. It's incredibly good. When I first got into Ghost, one of my favourite songs of theirs was Life Eternal (that song is absolutely magnificent but we'll get to her later). I didn't know much about them when I went to see Franz Ferdinand but before the show, my friend and I went to a book/music store (as one does). I gasped. "Ghost", I gasped. My friend said, I quote, "Hm?" I grabbed the first album I could put my hands on, (this one, would you believe it), and answered "Ghost. Ghost is good.". And we left and saw Franz Ferdinand.
Since then I got way more acquainted with the band and bought any album I could find because I am a very passionate person. Anyways I'm feeling a bit insane tonight and so I shall listen to the album in its entirity and tell you about the songs as they play, though when the song ends, I shall stop typing. You have my word. This is about to be very interesting. Yes. Interesting is the word. No one bored or unamused here. Let's go guys gals and funks!
Ashes: It's spooky. I do like when the drums kick in. And the little melodie that sounds like spoksonat. Good. I love a good intro me. SYNTHS!! Rats: Okay I need to talk about this song more than I need air. First of all, it's called rats, it's about rats (but not literally) and I love that. One thing about me is I will appreciate the drums on that song. Insane. "Rats! Oh whoah oah" So true bestie. The solo is flawless. I love the start. I love the middle. I love the end. Except I don't really because I wish it would go on forever. Now. Here comes the best part of the song. The outro. Honestly, the Rats outro has NO RIGHT!! being this sexy. I need to smooch it. I need to sniff it, lick it, tell it I love it. (if you got that reference, call me) Faith: INSANE SONG ALERT! I actually used to skip that one. I do not know why. I think I didn't like the intro. What a dumb bitch I was. I love this song a lot, a lot lot. The guitar sounds so good. The guitar part after the first "Because faith is mine" is so cool. And the stink part is so cool as well. This is just a really cool song I think. Yes. TULULULULULULU also this outro part pretty See The Light: Actual pissed anthem. The verses are so classy and elegant and then bOOM we are here to lick some serious butt! (kick aziraphale it's kick butt for heaven's sake) (can't believe i just said that) Also I do love a good synth solo. I don't actually know if it's synths, but it sounds like synths so. Don't know guys. Miasma: Iconic instrumental, I do not make the rules, it is so fun! The way the drums kick in in the beginning!! The bass line!! Yes!! Also +1 kazoo point, it is incredibly fun to kazoo. Having Papa Nihil be resurrected every time they play it live for the sax solo is a master move. It's really good. I can't describe my favourite part but it's out there and it's glorious. I love Miasma. Dance Macabre: Wobble wobble time! The sheer vibes communicated through the rythm. The little piano notes. It's so good. Wow these posts really are an opportunity for me to show off my amazing vocabulary aren't they. Anyway. It's so good. It's a dancey song, not possible to not vibe. Yes. Pro Memoria: Bloody love the piano and the way more and more instruments join in, really keen on that in songs. AND THE VIOLINS!! (again, are they violins or do I not know my instruments.) Witch Image: Rad title. That pre-chorus scratches my brain in the best way (especially the one where the backing vocals go higher on "over"). And the guitar riff in the chorus⊠yes please. Obsessed with the way he sings "white horse". QUICK DRUM SOLO!! Helvetesfönster: Oh yeah this is a beautiful piece of music. What does Tobias put in his instrumentals. It's such a trip to pretty land (it's too late for me to make sense shut up this song's melodies are on point is what i'm trying to say). Gosh. <- Me, listening to Helvetesfönster by Ghost. Life Eternal: This song has made me cry more than once, and those high piano notes at the end are to blame. Instrumentally this song is extremly precious and graceful. And the lyrics and his voice only add to that. It's a beautiful song, very dear to me, makes me feel emotions, and I think that's beautiful.
I'd like to add something about second and third Ghost tracks. Tracks 2 & 3 of Ghost albums make me go absolutely wild. If you know you know. If you don't know, I don't know what to tell you man, listen to them perhaps? Maybe? Would you do that for me? Okay. The love I have for this band is immense. toodles
CD04 - Midnights
No one wanted to play with me as a little kid So I've been scheming like a criminal ever since
yeah guys, i am a taylor swift enjoyer, it's true, the rumours are true.
I am not going to take a deep dive into my relationship with her music right now, I'm just going to talk about this album, because I have made a decision and I am standing by it. (Is 'standing by a decision' actually a saying or have I been speaking english wrong for years? let me know.)
Midnights! Bought this one at the local mall a few months ago, when P.E. class got cancelled and I had some free time. It was a Thursday.
I am not the biggest pop music listener- what is pop music anyway- but I can dance to anything when I put my mind to it, and let the music grow on me. This is what happened with this album, I hadn't heard it whole, I'd maybe listened to a few songs once or twice before, so I did not really know what to expect but, let's be real here. It's a good pop album. Come on now.
My favourites at first glance- listen- were definitely Bejeweled and Vigilante Shit. Something something about women, something something about the way she says "she looks so pretty. driving in your benz.", something something about missing sparkling.
Now, I can say that my favourite on that album is You're On Your Own, Kid, because good lord that song is pretty. I can also say that I used to skip Maroon and Labyrinth. Don't skip Maroon anymore (That Bridge) but Labyrinth is just not my jam! And that is okay! I still enjoy the album thouroughly! Love Midnights.
The fact that the tracklist is on the front cover and not the back has thrown me off my rythm more than once. I'd turn over the case only to be greeted by her mysterious gaze and some random ass numbers. (It's a clock, I know it's a clock) But I got used to it eventually.
If you wanted some really in depth analysis of the lyrics and any particular reference to any particular event that has happened, you've come to the wrong place big guy. All I can say is: this album is beautiful lyrically. I like the way she says the things. Cool.
It would surprise me, but if you haven't heard any song of off Midnights, definitely recommend, one of my favourite albums of hers for sure.

CD03 - This Is Why
I was only being kind But you mistook me for weak
OH MY GOD WHAT AN ALBUM GUYS. WHAT. AN. ALBUM. WHAT A BAND. Okay my brain thinks it has a lot to say about This Is Why by Paramore but I don't think it actually does except for the fact that I just really love it.Â
Paramore really came back stronger than ever. This Is Why was such a perfect first single to launch us into this era, and The News and C'est Comme Ăa only comfirmed what we already knew: that TIW would be a masterpiece. And it really is.
I listened to this album right before leaving the house to take my exams (I didn't fuck it up that bad, so, you know, I'm not saying thanks to Paramore but, you know, thank you Paramore). I love the cover and back cover or however you call it a lot, took me a while to see it was very much not a biologically accurate heart. The shade of red is very good. Very nice.
The lyrics of this album are so very good, from funny ones (e.g. "My social life a chiropractic appointment"), to the coolest shit you'll hear all day (e.g. "Turns out I'm living in a horror film where I'm both the killer and the final girl"), but also ones that make me want to take my heart out of my chest and stomp on it seven times (e.g. "I romanticize even the worst of time when all it took to make me cry was being alive"). Hayley Williams the lyricist that you are. Obviously, the guitare work is insane, and I'm not really one to notice the drums a lot, but I'm listening to You First at the moment and good lord.
If I was held at gunpoint andn asked to pick a favourite, I would simply pass away, either because my brain evaporated trying to rank my love for these songs, or because gun. For this post's sake, let's say it Thick Skull, because I have a thing for album closers, and for the way she sings "What's the body count up to, now captain?". It's a beautiful song, and they better play it live at some point, or I will be very sad.
Speaking of playing things live, can we talk about how they followed Crystal Clear by Liar? Can we? CAN WE? because I don't think I can. No I have not been to one of their shows (yet. I have hope.) but I can appreciate a good setlist moment.
This Is Why is an amazing album. I hope you give it a chance if you haven't already! I find it very diverse so if you don't feel like you can appreciate one song on there, go to the next one! Don't know. Might be fun. Have a nice day. Xx
CD02 - Does This Look Infected?
cw/ fake blood
Welcome to my own down and out.
This is a real special one. This is the one that started it all. The catalyst. Before this CD, I didn't really think it would be something that would bring me the joy that it does now.
Sum 41 is the band that got me back into music as a teenager (as a young teenager. I am now a less young person, still in the teens though.). Mother introduced me to them, as she did with the offspring and green day for example, and set the ground for me to discover more band to pour my love to. I still consider it my favourite, not necessarly because they're the one I listen to the most, but because of the memories associated with them, because they revived something in me I didn't know needed reviving. Needless to say that the fact they are separating feels very bittersweet to me.
This CD was bought while on holiday in Rome, I didn't have a proper CD player anywhere but in my brother's room, but I loved the object so much that I simply didn't care. I do now, I didn't before, I just liked the Object. But holy fucking shit was it a good feeling when I played it for the first time.
My favourite off of this one is probably Hooch. I do love me some Hooch. That outro is something so precious to me, and such a cool way to end the album as well! I listened to this song for the first time one or two years after discovering the band and I could not stop playing it, especially because of that damn chorus.
If I ever get the name of the Hyper-Insomnia-Para-Condriod song right without looking it up, you Know that something's up. Something's up. Up.
The album cover is simply iconic, as it should be for a record bringing us the cultural reset that was Still Waiting.
I do love when bands know how to vary their cover styles. I do love a bit of diversity. Hey. I do.
Definitely recommend giving the whole thing a listen if you're a bit of a heavy music fan, at least I do think it is considered heavy, I do not know how one decides in what genre a song or album falls. Overall, I guess it isn't really soft. Do with that what you will. Much love for this album. Mr. Amsterdam and Over My Head (Better Off Dead) are insane songs. Peace out.
Also, bestie. Yes. Yes it does look infected.
CD01 - Franz Ferdinand
I had to start with Franz Ferdinand by scottish band Franz Ferdinand. Why? Glad you asked. It's not because of anything legal. As your pretty eyes might notice, this CD has seen some shit. As a kid, I had two main CDs in my room, and one of them was this one. Needless to say, I was not all that careful with them and they often found their way to the floor, where people walk, the floor, on which people put their foot. So I stepped on it a lot. However, nothing more than the box is broken, the disk is still alive!
Adding to the fact this album shaped my childhood, it's also the first band I saw properly in concert, with one of my best friends, and it was awesome. So it simply felt right to commence with it!
If I had to pick a favourite from this album, it would be Micheal, because I'm gay because. I don't know, man, I'm no music critic but I think it's such a great song one can sing along to and dance to and it's an absolute JOY to hear live (as my concert videos will comfirm). I also seem to always forget Come On Home when naming my favourite FF songs. I hope it forgives me, it's such a pretty song.
I will stand by my opinion that this album, especially considering it is their first, is a masterpiece. I love the CD design and the lyric booklet thing design, I fucking love how the name is mirrored, that makes my brain woo, and I love scottish band Franz Ferdinand. Thank you.
I have cds and some vinyls and I love them very much, so I have decided to share them here so all that internalized appreciation and sanity, I am very sane about music, can be externalized! They're not rare or anything, I don't have hundreds and hundreds of them, but I love them and that is what is important here. Let's see how long I can keep this thing going shall we!
