I want to read (or write, if I have to) a crossover between The X Files and the SCP Foundation. Let me give you the pitch because I think my idea is good but I require external validation to do anything at all lmao
So Mulder and Scully are doing their thing, investigating a case that's actually an SCP but they don't know that. Maybe the type that isn't a sentient entity, but a phenomenon. So they're looking into, and unintentionally encroaching on the Foundation's turf.
The Foundation initially doesn't think much of, once they catch wind. They get amateur investigators, overly enthusiastic journalists, and conspiracy nuts knocking on their doorstep all the time. They don't have the resources to deal with all of them, just the ones that become actual nuisances or threaten containment. So they just keep an eye on them and that's about it.
However, Mulder and Scully are kinda good at this, and start getting dangerously close to uncovering things that the Foundation really doesn't want. So they amnesitize them and call it a day. Routine, standard protocol, happens all the time. Except they don't fully cover their tracks, and Mulder and Scully catch onto the fact that something is wrong.
Basically the bulk of the story is them pretty much investigating themselves. Working a case they already worked that they have no memory of, and trying to figure out why they don't remember it. Mulder of course instantly insists that something tampered with their minds, Scully theorizes maybe they got into an accident and got a bad concussion or something.
Nonetheless, they retrace their steps, rediscovering what they found before and then some. It puts the Foundation in a weird spot, because these two random FBI agents just found them TWICE and clearly aren't going to give up. So do they amnesitize them again, or recruit them?
I really like the idea that the FBI X-files branch was actually created by the Foundation to funnel in more curious agents so they don't discover the actually big stuff. It's filled to the brim with bullshit UFO sightings, Bigfoot accounts, conspiracy theories, and just enough carefully measured Foundation approved truth to keep them engaged.
And it worked. At the start of the show, Mulder was doing exactly what was intended while believing he was going against the grain. He was holed up in a basement office, his reputation slowly eroding, putting all his effort into something that was specifically designed to distract him forever. They just didn't anticipate the fact that Mulder and Scully together created the perfect storm to break out of the hamster wheel and start chasing real leads. It was meant to suck in believers and turn away skeptics, not for both of them at the same time.
