Hello, my name is Stella, and here's my theory ( slightly based of another one, actually ) of The Mirror Lied. It's all a metaphor for H5N1, or Avian Influenza; I don't think I need to explain much of this virus, seeing as the name gives away the animal it comes from. The bacteria, shown in a micrograph, is this one;
The same one you see in the microscope. The phone calls merely add to my theory, of course; "Birdie grew wings today." "Don't worry. Birdie flew away. Catch it on its way to Africa." "You must kill birdie before it flies over Europe, Leah. Respond ASAP." "It just flew over Europe. What are you doing, Leah?" "Birdie is about to fly over you." When I looked it up, it said that this influenza was spread by handling dead, infected birds and from contact with infected fluids. -- But that was in Asia, where there is -- admittedly -- low hygiene. Now, it spread from Asia to Europe by both legal and illegal poultry trades instead of dispersing through wild bird migrations, being that in recent studies, there were no secondary rises in infection in Asia when wild birds migrate south again from their breeding grounds. While there have been strains of avian flu to exist in the United States, such as Texas in 2004, they have been extinguished and have not been known to infect humans. Do I need to keep on explaining, or is this enough for now? Because really, I need to keep on researching so--
