This is why I can't be allowed to stay sober. Because I've been laughing about this for half an hour.
Imagine Ritch saying "show me your fingers" in the scene with the kids at the shack.
But it's the Shädowmän.

Currently plagued by the urge to create a horrible but very interesting AU work where Quaritch didn't pause and gravely wounded Neytiri before Jake was able to intervene and stop him. Resulting in her continuing to fight back and save Jake, but not able to fully kill Quaritch (only disabling his AMP suit forcing him to flee) and not able to survive. With the events from that point in canon not having Neteyam, Lo'ak or Tuk and Jake and Kiri can only see Neytiri at the tree of souls.
Jake has to raise Kiri as a single father with Mo'at, while watching Norm get to have the family he didn't.
Quaritch lives and goes back to Earth with Selfridge, but is still grieving for the people he lost and still has to leave Spider behind. Promising to come back and bring him home.
Spider is raised as he was before by the McCoskers, but instead he and Kiri hang around with the Spellman kids.
He and Jake are actually closer in this timeline than in canon because Spider becomes more like the son Jake never had and Jake knows Quaritch will be coming back for him. And needs to make sure Spider is prepared for that and stays loyal to Pandora.
Meanwhile, even though 15 years have passed chronologically, it's been only 3 for Quaritch. And now he's back on Pandora, determined to get his son back to Earth.
But he's not alone. Project Phoenix still has the go ahead. Even if he didn't die. But then that didn't stop Walker's Recom from being deployed, either.
Ritch and Quaritch both end up in a begrudging alliance of utility, but paternal tug of war over Spider after he's captured while they try to keep Ardmore out of his brain and still try to get Jake.
Jake ends up fleeing to the Metkayina with Kiri.
And that's where I'll end my basic synopsis of it for now because it's going some really cool places when you look at the trail of cause and affect and how disrupted it is when 3 pivotal main characters from The Way Of Water and Fire And Ash no longer exist, a 4th is dead and the main antagonist of Avatar doesn't die.

you’re not a real avatar fan if you use or support generative ai
This again?
Really?
What does it mean that James Cameron himself isn't fully against it and sees it as a way of lightening the workload for human creative teams instead of replacing them, huh?
Did he not allow a form of generative AI to upscale his back catalogue?
It's been bugging me for a while why "pinkskin" was a term that was only really introduced in Fire And Ash and not before.
But then I remembered that Varang refers to Jake and Ritch as "sky man" and it clicked into place.
Avatars sat in a kind of limbo between worlds. But after the program got shut down and the drivers rebelled against the RDA and Jake was accepted by Eywa and Toruk, Avatars moved to not being "Sky People" anymore.
They were already considered not much different than Edgar suits, anyway.
But then the end of The Way Of Water happened and a new line had to be drawn between human sky people and the new Na'vi sky people of uncertain numbers that walk and talk and fight and dress none the less like humans, yet don't transfer from one to the other and are permanently Na'vi.
TLDR: "Pinkskin" exists as a new term only for humans and only in Fire And Ash because 12 Na'vi showed up that redefined what the previously used "Sky Person" or "Demon" is.
SOME avatar fans really really grind my gears.
Goes double for the kids.
"Recom Quaritch is the exact same guy."
Uh, hey, people I keep reading and hearing all the time... You know who Ardmore represents and always has represented, right?
Not even shy about it when you pay attention.
was anybody else at the edge of their seat, when jake was talking in na'vi to quaritch, telling him to open his eyes and then he pulled out his braid/kuru? 😭 i legit thought he wanted to connect with quaritch, like right there? out in the open, in a glass cage?
You can see on Ritch's face that's what he thought for a moment, too, with how he was looking at it.
Since, you know, Varang absolutely warped his perspective of what tsaheylu between Na'vi is like and how important consent is in that connection.
lmaooo not the avatar wiki putting the question mark where the † would be if he was dead, but it just looks like his gender is uncertain 😭😭😭
Plot twist: the RDA actually gave them Trudy Chacon's memories instead in a Jurassic World Rebirth level technical failure involving a jujube and has been hiding it the whole time.
It still keeps happening.
But it's even sneakier now.
"Solitary brother, is there still a part of you that wants to live?"
Varang, who expects all of her people to stoop below her eye line so she can't be challenged and looks down on them and keeps control from above as a maternal goddess figure to compensate for the lack of stability and control in her early life:
"I am the fire!"
Managed to grab the last ScreenX showing in my area and Jesus Christ.
It was really good for seeing extra things going on and character reactions. Especially Varang, Neytiri and Recom Wainfleet.
But the peripheral screens are literally the PS2 template most of the time when they're on.
Normally, annoying and horrible considering how much I paid, yet not fully experience ruining since the main screen was the focus.
But at the end in the spirit world, when everybody turns into flat floating cardboard cutout PNGs on sticks? I nearly lost my shit.
PNGtuber Ta'unui Tsahik in greyscale sliding along into view like one of those old duck shooting fairground games until she got to the main screen behind Ronal and Grace is a thing I can never unsee watching this movie again now.
The concept of quaritch of all people deserving the dad title from spider more than Jake
Sorry Jake🥹
Literally on my latest watch I was like:
"You've proven yourself to me?"
"YOU'VE PROVEN YOURSELF TO ME?!"
Jake, your support and love is not a hamster you have to test your child for before you can give them it.
Meanwhile, Spider has nothing to prove to Ritch, even after nearly killing him 3 times.
He would still love that damn kid just as much if he nuked Bridgehead, pat him on the shoulder and tell him it's all going to be OK. Just a little oops.
Jake's expressing affection for both of his biological sons was/is disturbingly transactional.
Why, on God's green earth, am i seeing people blame Spider for Ronal's and Rotxo's death?
What is the bullshit reasoning behind that?
Like i am not joking, i genuinely wanna know. what did he do this time that made those fuckass idiots go like "yea it's his fault."?
They are really scrapping the bottom of the barrel to try and find reasons to hate him bc they have none that is actually valid...
It's a "butterfly effect" thing.
But they also don't understand that the same butterfly effect SAVED THE TULKUN AND REEF PEOPLE because if Ritch wasn't alive to capture Jake alive and bring him to Bridgehead, Jake wouldn't have met Garvin and been told of the RDA plan to attack the calf communion.
Because if Spider didn't save Ritch, JAKE WOULD HAVE BEEN KILLED ON THE SPOT BY LYLE WHEN HE WENT FOR HIS BOW AND THE REST OF THE KIDS WOULD HAVE BEEN KILLED BY VARANG!!!
No Lo'ak. No Kiri. No Tuk. No Jake.
Neytiri, Norm and Tarsem would have come back to find the remnants of the Mangkwan sacrifice fires (those bodies would have been carried off, waste not want not), Spider's masks and a headless shot-up corpse at the crash site wearing Jake's knife.
And then Neytiri would have moved back to High Camp permanently to bury what was left of Jake and would keep hunting the Mangkwan to get revenge and try to find what's left of her children, leaving the Metkayina radio silent.
The Tulkun and reef peoples would have been caught blind and near enough wiped out (including Rotxo, Ronal and Pril who would have been having her communion). But it would have been even easier.
Because there was no Kiri, Tuk and Spider override to get Eywa to send the tsyong. No Jake to become Toruk Makto again and rally the clans or prepare a defense in advance. No Lo'ak to find Payakan and Ta'nok and bring them to appeal to the Tulkun council to fight back.
So people that use the butterfly effect to keep throwing hate at Spider, don't know how the butterfly effect is DELIBERATELY accounted for in these movies and aren't aware just how important Recom Quaritch is to making sure things didn't end up worse. And how important Spider is in that balance.
Spider: *shoots quaritch through the arm*
Quaritch: 🥹🥹🥹that’s fine sugar plum pumpkin angel ik you didn’t mean it like that😭😭😭🥹🥰🥰🥰🥰
And then Spider literally picks up the snapped bolt, covered in fresh blood, and reloads it back into the crossbow to try and shoot him again.
i feel as if i've said this a lot, or at least thought it, but i never articulate it well enough.
the recombinants are not clones. they were created from the DNA of the human specimen and the DNA of a na'vi specimen, which by definition is not a clone (essentially the same idea as sexual reproduction--two parties were used to "conceive" a child).
this leads to the genetic material of each "parent" working to create a unique individual. of course the RDA can probably be picky about what specific genes they want the resulting hybrid to have, but they cannot control every single factor that takes place during this time. in turn, the different genetic material leads to a unique personality, outlook of the world, goals, and drive to live.
they are not the Na'vi clones of their human counterparts. it's more similar to them being their "child" (with half of their DNA being taken from the human version of themselves).
we do know that their human "parent's" memories were uploaded into their consciousness, up to some several hours before the big battle. this allows them to retain their knowledge of the human world as well as give them preset identities. but their own, natural personalities are going to shine through.
we see this in Quaritch, where he takes the time to listen to Spider and is shown being more sensitive to the death of the Tulkun and the harvesting of amrita.
their Na'vi heritage and connection to Eywa is also going to shine through. we see this in little rebellious acts. going barefoot, trimming their pants leggings, vocalizations, admiring the Pandoran scenery (we see this with Z-Dog and, again, Quaritch).
these Na'vi hybrids are not clones. they are their own people, with the memories of their neighbor and a loyalty to the RDA that they didn't sign up for. essentially, these people were lied to and didn't have a chance to experience Eywa for themselves or hell, experience themselves for themselves.
had these men and women grown up in the forest, in a clan, with a connection to Eywa, we would see them grow and flourish into beings who are distinctly different from their human counterparts regardless of if they share their DNA or not.
i will always have this stance on the recombinants. they are not clones. they are bodies, hosts for a dead unit to continue their job, that have had their lives stolen away from them before they even started.
Yes! This!
It's even in some of the Way Of Water special features.
But somehow when Fire And Ash itself brings it out in the open, so many still won't listen.
Here's an insane but fun Recom Wainfleet fanfic idea for free:
Day…uh..Who knows of having an f/o of a character that doesn’t have any merch and you’re poor to actually commission people.
Me until literally last July because I'm not going to spend the rest of my days sleeping under a 15 grand pinball machine.
