Okay Ya’ll, do I ever have a story for you. (This is going to be long, so strap in for this crazy ass ride.)
Three years ago I met a guy named Terran. We went on one coffee date to Remedy, and then because I did not yet have the finesse needed to extract myself, we went for dinner that same evening. One date. That’s it. After that I attempted to ghost him. It wasn’t easy. This guy would call me 2-10 times a day, and text bomb the shit out of me. Eventually he got the hint, or so I thought. Fast forward three months later. I got a message from him, under a different name, pretending to not know me. When I called him on it, because I’m not dumb, he tried to play it off like a joke and stated that he thought I ‘didn’t give [him] enough of a chance.’ Sorry friend, I was uncomfortable around you. You will not guilt me into putting myself in that position again.
Fast forward another year. He followed me on Twitter. I was cautious, but nothing too creepy happened.
Now we have arrived at three weeks ago. I got a notification on my snapchat. 'Terran has added you!’ As there is no ignore button, I just avoided the whole situation. But the notification was still there, and it was bothering me. So today, I thought I would throw him a bone, and add him back (if only to get rid of the notification.). This was his response back. I am not kidding you. Some of the nastiest things he said, because he got really awful, were unfortunately wiped (thanks snapchat) before I could take a picture of them. My only regret is that, in my frustration and confusion, I misspelled misogynist wrong. I normally would keep these kinds of things to myself, but as a feminist I feel like I really need to display this guy, and his disgusting attitude. Not only did he make me feel unsafe, uncomfortable, and like I owed him something while I was with him, but he continued to harass me for months after. Then years later, he attempts to slut shame, insult, and threaten me (unfortunately the thinly veiled threats were the messages I wasn’t able to screenshot in time.) for something I definitely had no part in. I feel like this is a very blatant example of gender inequality, and I really want to bring awareness to this kind of inappropriate nonsense. Unfortunately the Internet feeds into this kind of culture, I don’t know if he would have had the courage to say those kinds of things to my face. (If he did he probably would have experienced a whole new level of crazy.) Enjoy this crazy exchange! Is this real life?
