If I had a world of my own, everything would be nonsense. Nothing would be what it is because everything would be what it isn't. And contrary-wise; what it is it wouldn't be, and what it wouldn't be, it would. You see?

thoughts written so far about my fairy/young wizard story. this is one of those ideas i always have on the backburner & like to doodle between bigger projects ❤️
this is all very self indulgent and unpolished so be warned
This is an overall more magical world. His parents (mother at least) are definitely magical as well. A beautiful home with an expansive garden and forest. This is a small town I think. Modern setting but more like…90s maybe? No internet, simple phones and TVs, modern teen culture though?
He attends regular school though this largely takes place during the summer so that only starts factoring into the story later on.
He’s 11/12 ish, a young wizard. He walks to school, has a large-ish family and is mostly unsupervised day-to-day, lots of time outside exploring, has his own room, collects weird stuff. This kid is a lot less rural, has no hunting experience, a bit more of a combed hair well-dressed boy
Has an interest in magical creatures as an essential part of improving his magic. After reading about catching fairies as a good first step into creature trapping he manages to trap a dreary, nocturnal one. She’s got overly long and delicate-looking wings, limbs, and antennae. Big sad dark eyes.
He keeps her in a jar in his room for most of her time with him as a fairy. One or two outings or visits to school with various antics but she mostly just hangs out in his room.
The jar is kept out all the time and they end up talking quite a bit.
He doesn’t view her as a person much, more a surprisingly cute pet. And she kinda looks down on him as a human but is objectively weaker and is at his whims. Easily won over with gifts and compliments
Fairies in this world are simple creatures. Capable of speech, vain, prone to mischief. Not especially gregarious, solitary or small hives. She’s smart enough to hold a conversation, weigh in on magic related homework, but her interests are narrow, bored by many things, kinda childlike.
The plan was to keep her as a pet/source of potion ingredients. Maybe train her to do some magic for him. Classic young wizard antics. She’s really cute though and he’s kind of a weird kid so she ends up sticking around a lot longer and for much less clear reasons.
At a certain point, about 5 months maybe she’s fully out of the jar 24/7. This may have begun as like..outside time on a magic leash but at this point its just loyalty. She doesn’t sleep really, more naps like a cat all day. Keeps an eye on him. She has cute beds set up and hanging various places around his room. The family is kinda aware of her at this point. Really timid and elusive though, also small and sorta dark colored. They’re kinda like “oh you still have that?” whenever she pokes her head out
He's been considering the idea of her as a human for a while. He's wrestled with attraction to her since the beginning but he's an awkward kid and she's really way too small to try and do anything with. He had no concepts of a plan, hadn't looked into it or anything but he often wishes she was his size.
Somehow (this is the biggest thing i still need to figure out) he learns about a ritual that could change her into a person. She’s not thrilled about this concept but he dismisses this and she’s just like… :( hmph.
There's a very dramatic ritual involving who knows what.
To his complete shock she looks to be around 18-20! A dumb boy, he didn’t think this through at all! She’s not a fairy child so why would he expect her to be his age! So now he’s got this naked older girl out in the woods with him. He’s realizing quickly how impulsive this all was. How is he going to explain this??
Also despite all this freaking out….she’s……REALLY pretty. He can’t seem to look away..
Throughout this she’s just totally spaced out, adjusting to being a human. Feels so much slower and more contemplative. It’s like stepping off a shallow underwater ledge into a deep deep ocean. A depth of emotion, curiosity and attention-span. Feels strange but not necessarily bad! She’s still magical but it’s not as effortless, not as integral to her biology. Feels cold! Feels tired even though it’s night! Strange stuff. Looks around for her wizard, he’ll know what to do next, but he looks so completely bewildered and overwhelmed.
He approaches cautiously, she turns her body towards him and he freezes completely flustered. Takes off his cloak and hands it to her. Once covered she stands ‘oh! You’re much smaller now” he somehow blushes even deeper, annoyed (wow this is not how he expected this to go)
So…somehow this new chapter of their life proceeds! She wears his clothes a lot, stays out in the woods initially but gets sad, she wants to sleep in his room like normal :(
He pushes down his shyness towards her quickly, returns to the bossy and domineering energy he had when she was a pet, orders her around a lot. She’s used to this, doesn’t mind, however like when she was small she always expects lots of compliments (hehehe imagining her making him tell her she’s pretty then vs now. I love us getting comfy with their pet routine and then seeing the same behaviors with this new dynamic. Very cute)
"I've heard rumours that the accident last week, with the teacher who fell down the stairs, wasn't actually an accident. Strangely, the victim himself wasn't sure if he fell or if somebody pushed him. But last night he got a phone call saying that next time the 'accident' would be worse."
